How does
The First Tee of
Greater Dallas
positively impact lives?
More Than a Game…
More Than a Game…
More Than a Game… Positively impacting the lives of Dallas-area young people
by providing safe places, caring adults, and educational
programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values,
and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
2016 Parent Orientation
The First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Foundation, is a not-for-
profit, youth development organization
headquartered at the World Golf Village
in St. Augustine, Florida.
The First Tee of Greater Dallas, one of the more than
170 independently-operated, national and international
chapters of The First Tee, is a community-based
organization designed to impact the lives of young people
by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-
enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
The First Tee Founding Partners include the
game’s most respected and influential organizations:
PGA TOUR, USGA, LPGA, PGA of America,
and The Masters Tournament. Former President George W. Bush serves as
Honorary Chairman of The First Tee and Annika Sorenstam serves as
National Spokesperson for The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits.
The Life Skills Experience is one of the unique
features that allows The First Tee program to truly
make a difference in the lives of young people.
Through The First Tee Golf and Life Skills Experience,
participants learn about skills and values for
everyday life such as responsibility, courtesy,
decision-making, goal-setting, the importance of
maintaining a positive attitude, and the importance
of showing respect for others.
The lessons learned through The Experience are
lessons that will remain with young people well into
their future, regardless of how long they play golf as
a recreation!

Success Stories
Amber H. – Through the years, Amber’s leadership qualities have been on
display as she has been an inspiration to many. She has become a national
face for TFT and has attended all of the national events including the Nature
Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and the Toro Future Leaders Forum at
Disney World. Currently attending medical school at Tulane University
after completing her Bachelors at Vanderbilt and her Masters at The
University of Alabama, Amber exemplifies transferring success from her
days at The First Tee to her everyday life.
Michael W. – Another cover model for TFT (see below). Michael got his start
in TFT through our work with the Boy Scouts of America. Shy and hesitant
to start, Michael soon found TFT to be the home away from home that he
needed. The challenge of the game hooked him in and TFTD supported him
with mentors and access to opportunities that opened his eyes to the positive
culture surrounding the sport. Currently the newest program coordinator for
The First Tee of Greater Dallas, Michael has pushed through some of life’s
hardships, applying life lessons from The First Tee that have helped him excel
thus far in life.
Success Stories
Lester B. – Lester’s story starts with him curiously climbing through the
fence at Cedar Crest GC to join a TFT program in progress one afternoon.
Who knew that such a simple act would change his life! Growing up in a
very challenged home, TFTD served as a safe escape; a chance to breathe
fresh air and see a different way of life. When Lester fell into trouble as a
teen, he called the only person he could think of that could help him: his
coach. His coach then adopted him, took him into his home, and changed
his life forever. Lester is currently a college sophomore at Texas Southern
University that plays on golf team and carries a 3.0 GPA.
Val and Tina De Fex - Val and Tina are the least likely golfers you
could say. The two girls from Columbia came to America with no
knowledge of English and no knowledge of golf. Since then, TFTD has
become their home and they have become two of the organization’s
biggest success stories. Shy and standoffish, the girls blossomed into
superstars having attended every national TFT opportunity including
being designated as TFT Scholars, the Nature Valley First Tee Open at
Pebble Beach, the Life Skills and Leadership Academy, the PwC
Executive Forum and the exclusive National Golf Day Congressional
Breakfast. Val currently works for a Hispanic marketing company and
Tina started her first year of Law School. Both remain involved and
consider TFT an integral part of life.
