Whether its roping steers or riding

bulls, PRCA Rodeo Announcer DougMathis will engage audiences as hecalls the action in the 76th annualMineral Wells Pro Rodeo.

Mathis, who hails from Cleburne, has been a member of theProfessional Rodeo Cowboys Association since 1995, and isranked as one of the top announcersin the country.

In a career filled with highlights, announcing the 2005 Dodge National

Circuit Finals in Pocatello, Idaho, andthe 2009 National Finals Steer Ropingput feathers in his cap. Additionally,Mathis placed seventh out of all PRCAannouncers for “Announcer of theYear” voting in 2005, ‘06, ‘07, ‘08, ‘09and ‘10.

He was recently selected toannounce the 2013 National CircuitFinals steer roping competition.

     Also in 2005, 2006 and 2007

Doug was chosen for the TV broad-casting job on The Altitude Channelfor the Greeley Independence DayStampede’s Extreme Bull Riding.Even though he has appeared inseveral fashion print campaigns,Mathis is not just another pretty face, but his overall presentation and atti-tude have won him the admiration ofall those he works with.

His outstanding ability to make whatgoes on in the arena look better than

what it is and his smooth intelligentdelivery satisfies the seasoned fan aswell as newcomers.

Mathis is a highly sought afterannouncer, but his voice and facehave taken him further outside of thearena than he expected.

Besides the numerous nationalfashion print campaigns, Mathis canalso be seen acting in television com-

mercials from Reliant Energy to the

television pilot of “Knockoffs,” and fromCBS’s New Year’s Eve at Billy Bob’sTexas to Tylenol and Esquire watches. He also appeared in George Strait’s“Pure Country.”

Mathis has been behind the mikesince he sustained a career-endinginjury as a bull r ider. He hasannounced in 23 states and averag-es 50,000 miles a year on the road.He jokes that he gets his mail inCleburne, but that he really lives on

the road.“My friends are on the road and part

of the fun of working in this industry isreconnecting every year,” he said.

When he’s not announcing rodeos,Mathis can be found on his familyranch overseeing his 65 head of moth-er cows and calves.

Come rodeo with Mathis and hisfriends. You’ll be glad you did.

he PRCA has more than60 rules to ensure theproper care and treat-

ment of rodeo animalsincluded in its official rules andregulations. While the rules andregulations are too numerous tolist here, several of the safeguardsfor the proper treatment of animalsin the rules and regulations arelisted below.
