Answers to the 2016 State Level Candidate Questionnaire:
1. Having advocated for minority and women's rights, civil rights, and human rights all my adult life (approximately 40years), it is important to me to have the support of the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas. As a state legislator, it is my intentto serve as an LGBT ally in issues important to the community.
2. Meetings have just begun between the County Party and the candidates for state representative on how each of usmight participate. I personally support the coordinated campaign as an effective method to get out the vote for ourDemocratic candidates. I believe each of us as candidates should work to elect our Democratic slate, for example, byincluding campaign materials for county wide candidates in our block walk materials in our respective districts, and inwhatever other way the County Party may request our assistance.
3. I will proudly use the Stonewall Dems endorsement on my website, in campaign literature and mailers, on my socialmedia assets, and in my campaign advertisements.
4. When elected, I will recruit, retain, and create an LGBT Advisory Committee for HD 105. This committee will meetregularly to advise on issues coming before the legislature. Also,
5. I would be willing to appoint a liaison to meet with the LGBT community on an ongoing basis. The AdvisoryCommittee and liaison will be available to report to Stonewall Dems at its regularly scheduled meetings.
6. I would be willing to lead or support efforts to develop an LGBT Task Force similar to the one developed by the DallasCity Council.
7. I would be willing to lead or support state legislation and/or constitutional amendments pertaining to LGBT adoptionand foster care, repeal of the sodomy law, safe schools, and repeal of the Texas Marriage/Civil Union Amendment.
8. I support a women's unfettered access to health care and would work against obstacles to such access.
9. I would support adequate funding of mental health services and alternatives to incarceration in our juvenile and adultcourt system. It is a shame in Texas that our detention facilities become our largest provider of mental health services.
10. I support the expansion of Medicare/Medicaid in Texas to allow federal funding for health care for Texas residents.
11. I would support an ACA Medicaid expansion in Texas.
12. I would lead or support efforts to provide comprehensive sexual education in Texas.
13. I would lead or support legislation for a state Equality Act providing employment and residence nondiscriminationprotections for LGBT.
14. To improve the economy and address the wealth disparity in Texas, I support raising the minimum wage to a livingwage and passing the Equal Pay Act. I would also consider measures toward having the wealthy pay their fair share oftaxes.
15. As a former board member of the ACLU, I believe strongly in the separation of church and state. Neither I nor anyemployee will allow our religious beliefs to interfere with the performance of work duties.
16. I would lead or support legislation restoring public education funding in Texas.
17. I would lead or support legislation restoring previous funding for HIV prevention in Texas, including adding backPlanned Parenthood to the program.
I, Terry Meza, am seeking an endorsement from the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas for the 2016 Election for State
