We are thrilled to be hosting our 8th annual Red Angus Bull Sale in North Platte along with Ravishing Reds of North Platte. Every year we wonder what lies in store for us. It has been a very interesting year in the cattle business. The challenges, rewards, lessons and memories that are made on family operations are invaluable. Have you heard? It is an election year! A great year to have conversations with the next generation about the future of the operation and the lessons learned from past experiences. There is a lot riding on the information that is handed down to the next generation and it is our duty as caretakers of the land, to pass on as much as we can.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to look through the bulls in this catalog and assure you we understand the importance of having bulls that can do the job for you. We have had quite a winter so far. December brought abnormally warm weather with a lot of rain and snow. January the ground finally froze and so far, through mid-February we have had a few blizzards. We have seen more snow so far this year than in the last four with lots of wind. It has been hard on livestock and people.

This year we have some good friends consigning bulls to the sale. They are out of genetics originally purchased from us and we stand behind them just as we do our own. Hanson Red Angus, is owned by Pam Hanson from Conde, SD. Pam has built a cow herd around females she has purchased as heifers from our production sale. JK Angus, Kaitlin and Jamie Geyer are from Lisbon, ND, the girls started with show heifers from our production sale and have turned them into outstanding momma cows. High Ridge Red Angus owned by Dwight and Cindi McDonald are from Russel, IA. We own donor cows in partnership with the McDonalds and are looking forward to a long relationship with their family.

These bulls are bred based on a combination of multiple trait selection. It is our number one priority to have a balanced bull that has the structural correctness, feed efficiency with overall performance and carcass quality that the market demands. The EPDs are the most recent released from the Red Angus Association and due to technical problems in the national office some of the bulls did not have EPD’s so we have used the parental averages to help guide you in your selection. The scan data and weights are the most accurate information available. Supplement sheets will be provided on sale day. These bulls are ready to go to work in your pastures.

Harold Bertz, Commercial Marketing at the Red Angus Association, recently stated, “At Superior, the Red Angus females are the most sought after females.” The buyers are seeing how good these red cattle work and how much added value they are bringing to herds across the country. Harold mentioned there are some sale barns that will tell you the blacks out sell the reds, but he said for every one of them he can show you more that won’t say that. The tide is shifting!

The proof is in the record number of Feeder Calf Certification Program (FCCP) tags that were sold in January. February is on track to break another record of tag sales. The FCCP tag is recognized as an experienced USDA Verified Genetic, Source and Age Program. It is recognized as the symbol of guaranteed genetics.

We are very reluctant to sell Yosemite because of all the great calves he has produced for us. However, we do need to start adding some different genetics into our program and let this bull do a great job for someone else. Yosemite is the poster child for red meat and growth. He was not promoted as heavily as Yardmaster in his first year but it has not taken very long for people to notice him through his progeny. Yosemite’s calves are born with a big foundation and they are as long as a train. They are performance oriented cattle that will wean off pounds heavy. At weaning, they are some of the heaviest muscled, longest sided and biggest topped. They also weigh well at yearling and scan big ribeyes with exceptional marbling. Yosemite comes from our great bull producing donor, Persuasion. Her name will be one that people will look for in a pedigree and say, “that is a great cow family.” The first Yosemite daughters are in production and they are passing the growth genetics on to their calves. We have sold some outstanding Yosemite females in our production sale that have gone on to be tremendous foundation fe-males for young breeders looking to grow their herd. The Yosemite sons are stout, rugged and athletic. Sons are being used in pastures from the Rockies in Montana to the pastures of Texas and doing their job successfully.

He was the only one in his contemporary group, but posted one of the highest Marbling scores of all our bulls coming off summer grass. His mother is our favorite sister to Roy Rogers, and is nursing a standout bull calf for next year! If you need a power bull that brings added weaning weight and carcass value, don’t miss this beast!

We have just started having Young Gun calves hit the ground and I am really liking what I see. They are smooth patterned, loaded with volume and have a lot of red meat in them. This may be my favorite young bull of the whole sale. I love the cow that he is out of. Monte has done a great job of producing low maintenance female that are the cowman’s cow. Her bull calves are stout, rugged and have done a great job in the pasture. PIE Code Red and done some great things for breeders across the country. Lot 44 is a little different from most Code Reds. He has the square muscle down his top and out of his hip, good rib shape and is more desirable in his structure than most. He may not stand out in any certain trait. He is a combination bull that will be able to produce good, solid made calves that can be utilized in the feedyard or the pasture.

Here are two heifer bulls that can be utilized for calving ease or even better they can be used as heifer bulls that will produce calves that can wean off heavy and become something much more. Take a look at their EPD profile. a -2.7 all the way to a 103 YW and still maintaining a 0.55 Marb and 0.31 Rea. I can’t say enough good about Persuasion. She is a no miss cow that could be bred to a water buffalo and still produce a good looking calf. Yardmaster daughters are now in production and contrary to his Milk EPD, his daughters are doing a tremendous job. They have nice tight udders and plenty of milk. These two are tre-mendous bulls that not only look good on paper but they look even better in person. You won’t want to miss out on these two brothers.
