I am very proud and delighted to release the 3rd edition of the ‘’IGNITION-2016-2017’, the Newsletter of the Department of Mechanical

Engineering, which embraces the Achievements of the faculty members and the students. I am very happy to meet you through this page. Vel Tech Multi Tech has stood above the rest in its approach to education and in its pedagogies. The ways we teach and the ways our students learn are unique and creative. Education is not an act of acquiring knowledge but learning a skill to lead life and forming one’s personality. Many constructive efforts have been taken to improve our college results. As campus placements are progressing, efforts to groom the students to serve the society are also in pace. I can boldly say that the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has excelled in every initiative that has been undertaken and have stood together in facing the challenges in realizing quality education. MEESAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dr.V.Rajamani M.E., Ph.D Principal

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is a fledgling department started in

the institution during the year 2006.

This Department was started with an objective to impart high quality

education in Mechanical Engineering with the initial 60 and increased to 120

in the year 2008.

The department has state-of-art labs and qualified Faculty Members

(3Professors,9Associate Professors and 14Assistant Professors) with pas-

sion for both teaching and research.

Students are taught with the help of various teaching aids like smart

classrooms, LCD projector, NPTEL, Educational DVD’s , Video Conferenc-

ing, EDUSAT, Language Communication lab and knowledge Resource

centre.

Our Students have visited various industries like Ashok Leyland, WABCO,

TVS, TAFE, Hyundai Motors Company, Heavy Vehicles Factory, Addison

Tools Limed, etc.,

Our students have undergone Implant Training in various industries such as

India Piston, Ashok Leyland, Greaves Cotton Limited, Chennai Port Trust,

Tata Motors, Ford, Royal Enfield, etc.,

DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS

AICTE-CII AWARD : The Department was honoured with PLATINUM

Award for the Best Department in Institute-Industry Interaction.

PERMANENT AFFILIATION : The Department is Permanently Affili-

ated to Anna University

RESEARCH GRANT : A grant of 39.76 Lakhs was received by

Dr.S.T.Selvamani from DST-SERB and a total of 51 Lakhs stands as

completed projects.

RESEARCH LAB : HYUNDAI Sponsored Research Laboratory Facility

is set up to inculcate the knowledge of the students beyond syllabus

catering to Industry Needs

PATENTS : 22 Patents are filed and 7 are Published

PUBLICATIONS : 70+ Publications in SCOPUS Indexed and 225 Publi-

cations in other referred journals.

PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY : Active Member of SAE and Active Partici-

pation in Professional Body Events

INNOVATION : Students have established themselves as strong Inno-

vators and won many awards participating across the nation.

MECHPRO FANFARE - 2017 A REMARKABLE DAY of the Department of Mechanical Engineering where 40 projects were exhibited in a single day, showcasing the Innovative and Talented minds of our students..

Students from Mechanical won 1st Prize and was also awarded Rs.5000 in the event ”IDEA SHOWCASE,E-CONCLAVE-17” for the project “Automatic Open Drainage path cleaner” - a project expo organized by Rajalakshmi Engineering college.
