Rev 13:1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea.And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, havingseven heads and ten horns, and on his horns tencrowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

1. Satan seeks to counterfeit God

• Satan sought to be God:

Is 14:13,14 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; … I will be like the Most High.’

• The Anti-Christ is, essentially, the son of Satan:

Rev 13:2,7 The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. … And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.

2 Thess 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is according tothe working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lyingwonders,

1 Jn 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil hassinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son ofGod was manifested, that He might destroy the works ofthe devil.

• Jesus is the human manifestation of God, theFather:

John 14:9 He who has seen Me has seen the Father;

Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstbornover all creation.

• The Anti-Christ is the human manifestation ofSatan

2. Why a beast?

It seems fitting that since men have embracedDarwinism for the past century and have come tobelieve he is nothing more than a beast, Godgives them a beast to worship and follow.

3. Satan wears crowns?

• Satan does have authority:

Is 14:13 I will exalt my throne above the stars of God

Eph 6:11-12 Put on the whole armor of God, that you maybe able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we donot wrestle against flesh and blood, but againstprincipalities, against powers, against the rulers of thedarkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness inthe heavenly places.

• The diadems of Satan & the Beast contrast withthe many diadems of Jesus

• Dunamis = the Greek word used in the N.T. to describeunstoppable, unhindered power.

Mt 4:8-9 Again, the devil took Himup on an exceedingly highmountain, and showed Him all thekingdoms of the world and theirglory. 9And he said to Him, “Allthese things I will give You if Youwill fall down and worship me.”

• Before Jesus’s resurrection, Satan had this power:

After Jesus’ resurrection & Pentecost, this powerwas given to believers:

Lk 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample onserpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy,and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit hascome upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me inJerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of theearth.

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it isthe power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, forthe Jew first and also for the Greek.

• Exousia = power subject to another

• This is the power Satan has now:

Eph 2:2 in which you once walked according to the courseof this world, according to the prince of the power of the air,the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

Col 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darknessand conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

Acts 26:18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them fromdarkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God,

Dan 9:24-27 “Seventy weeks are determined for yourpeople and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, tomake an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, tobring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision andprophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. 25“Know thereforeand understand, that from the going forth of the commandto restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince,there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the streetshall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesometimes.

And on the wing ofabominations shall be one who makes desolate, even untilthe consummation, which is determined, is poured out onthe desolate.”
