Dear Families, On behalf of the Lakelands Park Middle School (LPMS) Parent, Teacher and Student Association (PTSA),
Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 academic year! Our moto for the school year is… PTSA…Join, Participate, Enjoy! Please LIKE US on our Facebook page @LPMS PTSA to receive access to the most up to date
information throughout the year and participate in our November on-line Silent Auction. Most importantly, visit our website at http://www.lakelandsparkptsa.org/ where you can conveniently join or re-join. Once you are a member you can login to view our calendar of LPMS events, access
our on-line member directory, sign-up to receive local SSL opportunities, donate to the cause, read our information blogs, and shop on-line for LPMS Spirit Wear apparel and items any time throughout the year. Join: Joining the PTSA will earn you a coveted LPMS Student Directory, Monthly PTSA Newsletters, access to our on-line membership directory, access to local SSL opportunities, ability to vote on how GRANT money is distributed, as well as help support the PTSA’s effort to enrich our children’s middle-school experience! Our goal is 100% participation by families and staff. WE NEED YOU—so please join the PTSA team. You can become a new member or re-join on-line from our website or send in the enclosed application with the $35 Family/Student Membership Fee along with a direct appeal donation of your choice directly to the school. Checks made payable to LPMS PTSA. Participate: The LPMS PTSA generally meet three times over the year in the Falcon’s Nest at LPMS. These meetings are free for all LPMS parents and students and include topics such Setting Expectations for Success: Homework & Attire, Overview of High School College Preparation Timelines, and Secrets to College Admissions. See PTSA calendar for event information. We welcome and encourage volunteering as a way to give back to the school and improve our events for our students. You can sign up throughout the year at our Volunteer Spot at http://www.lakelandsparkptsa.org/volunteerspot Enjoy: The PTSA calendar on the following pages has wonderful social and academic activities planned for all students, but we need your help and participation to bring these activities to fruition! If you are interested in being on the LPMS PTSA Board this year OR next year (the entire board is now made up of 8th grade parents), please contact us at [email protected]. We are happy to have you “shadow us” over the year, so you are prepared for next year. COMMITTEE CHAIR AND/OR MEMBERS NEEDED
We desperately need Committee Chairs and/or members and volunteers for the following PTSA committees. Please join as a committee member or chair. We have a friendly and supportive Board that will welcome your involvement! Please sign in online at
www.lakelandsparkptsa.org or contact [email protected] if you are interested in helping out. Social Events Vice President – (PTSA Board Member) Oversees and assists all the chairs of the various programs and
events, including Basketball Night, Fright Night, PTSA dances, Staff Appreciation, the PTSA newsletter contributions and our volunteer effort. Works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator. Attends all PTSA Board Meetings (once a month on second Tuesday of the month).
Secretary – (PTSA Board Member) Records the minutes of all meetings of the PTSA and the executive board; files all records;
has a current copy of the bylaws; maintains a current membership list; manages and moderates the PTSA Website and Membership Database. Also communicates with staff (birthdays, condolences, etc.) Attends all PTSA Board Meetings (once a month on second Tuesday of the month).
Membership (Chair & Members) Work with Board members to increase membership among students and staff. Organize
membership drives and focus on reaching out to ESOL families. (This position will ramp up in the summer and spring and will be relatively quiet in the winter—good for parents who want to help but can’t commit to full year).
Business Promotions & Donations (Chair & Members) Work with community businesses to sign up for and publicize
business programs (Giant, Harris Teeter, Amazon, Dining- Out Nights, Food & Beverage gift card donations, etc.) for the November Silent Auction and Feb/Mar Basketball Night.
Nominating Committee (special committee) (Chair & Members) - Recruits nominees for open PTSA officer positions prior to May elections. Creates and presents slate of candidates.
Basketball Night (special committee) (Members) Coordinate all activities, food and spirit sales for annual basketball night
event for students.
Direct Appeal (Members Needed) Work with VP Fundraising to communicate and implement a Direct Appeal Campaign to
raise funds for school-wide programs, activities and educational support materials. HOLA Meeting & Community Committee (Must Speak English and Spanish Fluently) (Chair/Members)
Work with the PTSA Board and Carrie Reed, LPMS Administrator on ways to help communicate social events, school-wide programs, activities and educational support materials to our LPMS Hispanic community to give them the support to help their students experience.
REPRESENTATIVES AND/OR DELEGATES NEEDED
Delegates (MCCPTA) Represent LPMS at Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) Delegate Assemblies and report back to
the PTSA. Monthly meetings usually on fourth Tuesday. Cluster Reps (NW & QO) Represent LPMS at cluster meetings and report back to the PTSA. Monthly meetings usually on
Mondays. The QO Cluster meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month from 7:15 - 9:00 PM. NW Cluster meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 (various school locations).

BOX TOPS - Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school. Last school year, we earned $800 for our school from Box Tops and used the money for Education Grants requested by the teachers such as: A 3 D for the Library’s Innovative Makers Space and a Bass Clarinet for the Music Department.
