Day 1 Saturday, 07 November 2015 Adelaide – Hanoi (D)Fly from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne with Qantas and then on to Hanoi with Vietnam Airlines*. Arrive into Hanoi late evening, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 Sunday, 08 November 2015 Hanoi – Hue (B,L)After a morning briefing, we will explore Hanoi’s sights such as the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh (the father of modern Vietnam), the magnificent Presidential Palace, the humble wooden cottage of Ho Chi Minh, the One Pillar Pagoda and the impressive Temple of Literature. The remainder of the afternoon is free to explore the many interesting streets of the Old Quarter, an area that is little changed over the centuries. Each street is named after the goods that they trade in e.g. Silk St, Iron St, Biscuit St, Shoe St etc. and it is interesting to make your own discoveries. After an early group dinner, we transfer to the train station for our overnight train journey on the Reunification Express south to Hue.

Day 3 Monday, 09 November 2015 Hue (B,L)30km cycling- Medium, level 2We will arrive into Hue at 10.45am where we will be introduced to our bicycles. A short ride to Tu Duc’s tomb may be possible during the afternoon.

Day 4 Tuesday, 10 November 2015 Hue – Hoi An (B,L,D)70km cycling- Hard, level 5We will set out early from our hotel and drive 20km out of town before getting on the bikes. Today will be our first experience of cycling along the Thuan An Beach, past endless rice paddy fields and children screaming out ‘hello’. We will cycle 50 km, then transfer by bus to Lang Co Beach for lunch. After lunch, we continue cycling up the challenging Hai Van Pass. We will then transfer to Danang, stopping briefly at Marble Mountain before heading to the World Heritage town of Hoi An. In the evening, we will take a short walking tour through the old streets, which are charming at night with lanterns hanging from shop fronts. Amongst other things, Hoi An is famous for a particular noodle dish (Cao Lau) which we endeavour to sample during our time here.

Day 8 Saturday, 14 November 2015 Kon Tum – Buon Me Thuot (B,L,D)45km cycling, Medium, level 3This morning we will visit the wooden church and the orphanage centre where they provide shelter and care for orphans who have lost one or both parents while their relatives are too poor to foster them. Some children have been abandoned by their families. If you wish to bring donations, we recommend toiletries, pens, books, colouring books, fresh fruit & vegetables. We will then transfer by bus to Pleiku on an excellent road, Highway 14, taking in 197kms of undulating and scenic uplands. We will have lunch before starting cycling from Pong Drang. We will pass by coffee plantations and national parks on our way to the largest town in the Western Highlands, and the capital of Dac Lac Province.

Day 9 Sunday, 15 November 2015 Buon Me Thuot – Nha Trang (B,L)90km cycling- Hard, level 5Today’s part-cycle covers 170kms on Highway 27B and whilst undulating is mostly downhill towards the coast and Nha Trang. We may see wild elephants as we pass through more minority hamlets on our way to the kilometres of untouched beaches, great climate and islands to explore which have made Nha Trang a popular Vietnamese resort. The accommodation for tonight is ideally situated right near the main beach in the centre of town.

Day 10 Monday, 16 November 2015 Nha Trang (B)Today is free at leisure at your own arrangements. Suggested activities include snorkelling tour, or a visit to the mud baths (cost not included).

Day 11 Tuesday, 17 November 2015 Nha Trang – Ho Chi Minh City (B,L)After breakfast we will transfer to the airport for our flight to Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnam Airlines. In the afternoon, we travel to the remarkable Cu Chi tunnels, home to 5,000 VC troops during the Vietnam/U.S. War. They are situated outside of the city; about a 2-hour drive one way.

Day 12 Wednesday, 18 November 2015 Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho (B,L,D)40km cycling, Medium level 3Rise early and be driven from Ho Chi Minh City to Cai Lay and get acquainted with your bicycle. Then enjoy a 40 kilometre ride along a combination of well paved, sand and dirt paths through local villages and rice fields and fruit orchards. Along the way, there are chances to see real-life activities of Mekong delta as kids going to local school, farmers growing rice and vegetables or keeping ducks on the field! Arrive Cai Be boat station, take a boat cruise to see traditional floating market and visit some local home factories as rice paste making, rice popcorn, and coconut candies. Drive to Can Tho and stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 13 Thursday, 19 November 2015 Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City (B,L,D)Wake up early (suggested at 05.30am) for another short boat cruise to see the busiest floating market in the Mekong. Buy a local coffee or a drink from a floating coffee shop if you like! Get back to your hotel, enjoy the breakfast, check out and drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. We will stop for lunch on the way back, and we will have the afternoon free to explore Ho Chi Minh City before our farewell dinner.

Day 14 Friday, 20 November 2015 Ho Chi Minh City – Sydney/Melbourne (B)We will have a day at leisure for some last minute sight-seeing or shopping until we are transferred to airport for your flight back home. Fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney/Melbourne with Vietnam Airlines*.

Day 15 Saturday, 21 November 2015 Sydney/Melbourne – Adelaide Continue your journey home to Adelaide with Qantas*.

*Flight details to be confirmed.

Day 5 Wednesday, 11 November 2015 Hoi An cycling (B,L,D)40km cycling- Medium, level 2In the morning we will cycle through the picturesque countryside that surrounds the town of Hoi An before arriving at the peaceful Tra Que village. We will be given a short tour where we will learn about the daily working lives of farmers and participate in some traditional farming activities. Then we will cycle to the Cua Dai River. On arrival, we will board the Hoi An Eco-tour boat for a gentle cruise to the mouth of the river where we will learn some traditional fishing techniques from the locals. You will also have the opportunity to try your hand at rowing a traditional coracle boat through the coconut flanked waterways. After lunch aboard the vessel, we will cycle back to Hoi An through other countryside villages.

Day 6 Thursday, 12 November 2015 Hoi An – Quang Ngai (B,L,D) 70km cycling- Hard, level 4This morning, take a local ferry to pass Thu Bon River where you start cycling along the beach, avoiding Highway 1 until the stop at Tam Ky for picnic lunch. From here we cycle into the district of Song My, to the better-known hamlet of My Lai - an evocative memorial for those villagers who died in the horrific massacre during the American War. The My Lai site is in a small rural settlement surrounded by simple thatched huts, quilted rice paddies and farmers with conical hats going about their day-to-day routines. The mood set by these surroundings is one of peace and tranquillity despite the deep scars of the past. After visiting the simple memorial and museum, we can either continue riding or take our support bus to Quang Ngai where we stay overnight.

Day 7 Friday, 13 November 2015 Quang Ngai – Kon Tum (B,L,D)100km cycling- Hard, level 5Today is a more challenging day as we leave Highway 1 and head inland towards Quang Nam. We will cycle only part of today, along undulating roads with stunning photo opportunities. We will ride past many remote villages, tropical forests, over bridges and along quiet but scenic roads. Overnight in Kon Tum.
