Advanced Learning

Gifted Instructional Training for AP Teachers

This 10-hour training provides participants with knowledge

about the characteristics of gifted learners and curriculum

differentiation for such learners. Participants will develop

exemplary lessons to implement in Advanced Placement

classrooms. This training does not provide gifted certification or

an endorsement. This training is open to AP teachers in any

content area.

Audience: AP teachers who do not have the full gifted

endorsement

AP Best Practices

Teachers in one AP course from most content areas will have

the opportunity to learn about content changes, collaborate,

plan, and share best practices during the fall. Sessions are

usually led by an experienced AP teacher. Specific course

specific AP teachers in August.

GaDOE AP One Day Workshops

To maintain Georgia’s strong Advanced Placement program

throughout the state, the Georgia Department of Education

offers Advanced Placement AP Regional Workshops each fall.

Once information is received by the ALP office, notification will

be sent to all AP teachers and coordinators. Each workshop is

designed primarily to help teachers with 0-3 years of AP

teaching experience; however, any AP teacher who feels a need

for additional support and resources is welcome to register,

especially if the course is being redesigned this year.

Cultural Issues – 5 PLUs

This is one of three courses required for ESOL Endorsement. It

is a comprehensive study and application of elements of cultural

issues related to the teaching of English Language Learners in

Pre-K-12. In addition to class sessions, participants will be

required to spend at least 15 hours online. This course is

equivalent to a graduate level course and requires intensive

reading and out of class observations and/or projects.

Reading Saved My Life

Are your students prepared to read in the real world? Charts,

graphs, tables, political cartoons, maps, photographs, paintings

– literacy is much more than words written in a text. This half-

day workshop will train teachers to equip students with critical

literacy skills necessary to interpret the multitude of texts they

will encounter in their 21st century world. We will explore how

Title I

Parent Facilitator Trianing

Title I Parent Facilitator Training (K-12): Building Strong

Schools through Supporting Parent Capacity and Sustainable

Best Practices in maintaining Federal Compliance

In the fall and spring, the Title I Staff will provide guidance and

professional development to schools on effective parental

involvement activities, school parental involvement plans and

school-parent compacts, and instructional practices in

maintaining Federal Compliance. The training will also include

the value and contributions of parents that will be redelivered

to the faculty and staff of Title I schools. Parent Facilitators will

work together to create longstanding concepts, activities, and

resources that individuals, school districts and other

organizations can use to increase academic achievement. In

addition to frequent communication and school visits, Title I

schools will receive ongoing notifications and resources from

the district’s Title I Staff to help them improve and strengthen

local Schoolwide Program reform strategies.
