Issue 65 February 2017

Happy New Year!

With even more events for children and adults coming up this year, our motto for 2017 could be “There’s always something happening at the Library!”

As well as our regular displays (Good Reads, Western Australian Writers, Sublime Non Fiction), and events (Library Lovers’ Day, Lego League, Crafty Corner, Games Days, Children’s Book Week), we’ll be having more guest speakers, literary lounges, competitions, and a few colourful surprises!

Look for new magazines like Peppermint, and of course, new books that you can reserve in the Library or online. Even our website is new! Now when you click on New Titles in Stock, you’ll see all new reserve items as images that you can click open for more information, and you can even give a star rating.

We’ve increased loans for DVD’s and CD’s to 10 of each. You can borrow up to 20 items on one card. Plenty to read, listen to, and watch.

We are also asking you to send us your reviews of books and movies, or a favourite recipe. You can hand them in at the counter, or send us an email. We’ll publish them here and on Facebook and the Library website.

Celebrate Library Lover’s Day with us by writing a short love poem for our

Wall of Love Write your poem about loving a book, how you love to read or why you love your Library. All ages welcome.

All entries will be displayed on our Wall of Love. There’ll be a $25 book voucher prize for the best adult’s entry and the best

children’s entry. Forms available from the front desk, Facebook and our website. All entries must be in by Monday, 13th February. The winner will be announced

on Facebook and on our website Tuesday, 14th February.

Congratulations Facebook Winners! Claire Brooks (left) picked up a $25 book voucher for being our 600th ‘Like’, and Karen McGlue won a $25 book vouche for correctly answering our Secret Life of Spine Labels quiz.

My Mother’s Castle (Le Chateau de ma Mere) Rated G. In French/ English subtitles

This is a light, delight-fully funny, refreshing family movie about a family revisiting French holiday home with a child’s nostalgic holiday experiences and narration. A European holiday without leaving your armchair! Recommended by Janet.

True Detective Second season 2016 MA15+

The original True Detective was a mind-blowing, brilliant series, with superb interaction between the lead play-ers. In this new season, complete with a new cast and set in California, I found nothing worthy to hold my attention. There’s a bizarre murder, with three cops (one of them the typical feisty woman), and a career criminal after the culprit, etc. It’s a heavy-handed crime drama, and even heavier on the back stories. Colin Farrell’s eyebrows did most of his act-ing, and Vince Vaughn, trying hard, looked like he had sat on something sharp for the entire series. Two stars out of five - and that was for the scenery. Let’s hope series three has more to offer… JR

And speaking of our craft group, here we are at Crafty Corner making origami fireworks for Australia Day celebrations. They went on display in the Library.

You can join in the fun by making whatever makes you happy - each Thursday from 12.30 - 2.00pm in the Library.

This is Ngaire - with a finely embroidered tapestry of her son. Ngaire says “I have always loved craft and cross stitch and by a happy accident discovered that I could scan photos and make a cross stitch pattern. I have now been sewing my family for the past 15 years.”

You can see Ngaire’s incredible sewing skills in the Library in February. What an incentive to join our craft group!

Now with more games!

Game Days are held in the Library on the first Saturday of each month

from 9:30am -1.00pm.

So come on down and join in the fun or bring your own games to play and share!!!

Game days are casual gatherings - no bookings or fees required.

Following our games day on Saturday 4th February we will be launching our board games collection - making them available for loan!!!. Most games will be available to loan out: 1 week only [no Renewals]. 1 game per person. Some games will not be available for loan but can be used in the library only.

GAME ON!

One benefit of Summer was that each day we had

more light to read by.
