EXECUTIVESUMMARY
WildResearch is a membership based, charitable, non-profit organization that operatesIonaIslandBirdObservatory(IIBO).WildResearch’smissionistobuild,train,andeducatea community that contributes to conservation science.WildResearch develops and runscitizen scienceprograms like IIBObecause it enablesus to conduct conservation scienceresearchwhileofferingskillstoourmembership,andengagingthepublicwiththenaturearoundthem.AtIIBO,WildResearchmonitoredavianpopulationsin2017duringspring(April15th-May31st),fall(Aug19th-Oct.30th)andwinter(Nov.25th-Dec10th)inIonaBeachRegionalParkinRichmond,BCusingpassivemist-netting.Thetwomigrationmonitoringprograms,SpringMigration Monitoring Program (SMMP) and Fall Migration Monitoring (FMMP) aim tomonitorpopulationandmigratorytrendsandcollect informationaboutannualand long-termtrendsinbreedingproductivity.TheWinterSongbirdMonitoringProgram(WSMP)’slong-termobjectiveistodetermineover-wintersurvivalratesandspeciesdiversityinthearea.Birdswerecapturedusingmistnetsandbanded.Standardmeasurementsweretakenforall banded birds. The IIBO was in operation for 4,068 net hours with 4,235 new birdscapturedforatotalcapturerateof1.26birdspernethour.ThisisoverdoublethecapturerateoftheVancouverAvianResearchCenter’sColonyFarmsBandingStationin2017(0.55birds/net;VancouverAvianResearchCentre2017AnnualReport).The2017SMMPexhibitedexceptionallyhighcaptureratesandbirddiversity,supportingprevious SMMP findings that the Iona Island area is ecologically significant as a birdmigratorystop-oversite.DuringtheSMMP,2,806birdswerenewlycaughtand464birdswere recaptured over 40 banding days, over 2,278 mist-net hours. Monitored birdsincluded 50 species with a catch rate of 1.23 birds/net hour for new birds and 0.20

birds/net hour for recaptures.Woodwarblers, includingWilson’sWarblers andOrange-crownedWarblersdominatedthecapturesduringspringmigration.PointcountsurveyswerecompletedasacomponentoftheSMMPmonitoringmethodsin2017.Throughthissupplementalsurveymethod,8,111individualsof89speciesofbirdswere recordedaround IIBO.Point count surveysallowed formonitoringof speciesusingIonaBeachRegionalParkthatwerenotrepresentedincapturedata.Atotalof125specieswere recorded at IIBO during the 2017 SMMP. Of these 125 species, 65 species wererecordedduringpointcountsurveysthatwerenotcapturedduringpassivemist-netting.The2017FMMPwasalsoproductiveforIIBOandtookplaceover29bandingdays.Atotalof 1,383 birdswere newly captured and 281 individual birdswere recaptured. 44werecapturedwith a capture rate of 0.88 new birds/net hour and 0.23 recaptures/net hour.SongSparrowsandFoxSparrowswerethemostcommonlycaughtspecies,amountingto25.8%oftotalcaptures.Thenumberofmist-nethoursinthefallwas1571hours.The2017WSMPmonitored largenumbersof residentbirdsover3 fair-weatherbandingdays.Exactly100birdswerecapturedover219.5mistnethoursforatotalcapturerateof0.46birdspernethour.During theWSMP,46birdswerenewlycapturedand48uniquebirdswererecaptured.Seventeenspecieswerecapturedwithacatchrateof0.21birds/nethourfornewbirdsand0.22birds/nethourforrecaptures.FromMaytoAugust,2017,throughtheCanadaSummerJobsprogram,WildResearchhireda MSc student from Simon Fraser University, Laura Newberry, to collect baselineinformation on wildlife habitat usage at IIBO, including breeding songbirds, smallmammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Findings from this summer research project can befoundhere (2017Technical Report andRestoration Plan for IonaBeachRegional Park):http://wildresearch.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/WildResearch-2017-Technical-Report-and-Restoration-Plan-for-IBRP_180305.pdfIn 2017, a total of 201 individuals were recorded visiting IIBO during group bandingdemonstrationsincludingvisitsduringthemigrationmonitoringprograms.Visitinggroupsincluded university/college classes, Nature Kids, and K-12 students. This year,WildResearch partnered with the Canadian Wildlife Service to provide a bandingdemonstration for the winner of the kid’s program of the Pacific Flyway Ambassadorproject.Avian monitoring at IIBO would not be possible without help from our numeroussupportersandvolunteers.WildResearchwould liketoacknowledgesupport fromMetroVancouver,fundingfromtheSitkaFoundation,BCNature,andBCNaturalistFoundation.We extend our sincere thanks to all thosewho volunteered at IIBO, the hardwork anddedicationofsomanyenthusiasticbirdersensuredthesuccessofthemonitoringstation.In2017, 44, 35, and 4 people volunteered for the spring, fall, and winter monitoringprograms,respectively.Volunteersdonatedmorethan1670hoursoftheirtimetorunIIBOin 2017. We are grateful for the numerous volunteers who donated their time to ourmonitoringprogramandultimatelycontributingtoconservationscience.

1. INTRODUCTION1.1. AvianMonitoringPrograms
Through the spread of urbanization and the intensive agriculture needed to support arapidlygrowingpopulation,humanshaveoccupiedmanyhigh-valuehabitatsintheworld,principally estuaries, riverine valley bottoms, and wetlands (McKinney 2002). Urbandevelopmentsareoften foundnear largebodiesofwater,estuaries,richproductive land,and/or riparian areas that are biologically important. The residual urban green spacesprovide refuges, resource sources, dispersal corridors, wintering habitat, and migratorystopoversforavianspeciesthattraditionallyreliedonthelandscapesthaturbanareasnowoccupy(Ohmart1994;Bolgeretal.2001;Mellesetal.2003;Sandstrometal.2006).Usingweather surveillance radars, a recent study has demonstrated that migrating birds areattractedtoareaswithmoreartificiallighting,usingthemasstopoversites(McLarenetal.2018).Thishighlightstheimportanceofpreservingandprotectinggreenspaceandparkswithsuitablehabitatwithinanurbanlandscape.WildResearch is a charitable organization whose goals are wildlife research andmonitoring, environmental education, and community engagement through training andoutreach. This organization believes that wildlife use in these semi-natural habitats isimportant for supporting wildlife communities, and should be further investigated. TheIIBOprogramservestoincreaseourknowledgeofsuchcommunities.
1.2. IonaIslandBirdObservatoryIona Island Bird Observatory (IIBO) has been in operation since 2010 and continues toserveasoneofWildResearch’scoreprograms.IIBOislocatedwithinIonaIslandRegionalPark, immediatelynorthof theVancouver InternationalAirport inRichmond,BC (Figure1),and ismaintainedbyMetroVancouverRegionalParks.Thisurbanpark isan isolatedpatch of riparian and meadow habitat that is surrounded by an expanding matrix ofresidential, commercial and industrial development. The park has been demonstrated inpreviousyearstoactasastop-overforavarietyofpasserines(IBACanada2017;Toochin2014a). It has been designated an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International and itslocal partners, Bird Studies Canada and BC Nature. The Sitka Foundation has providedsignificantfundingtoWildResearchforoperatingIIBO.

1.3. IIBOProgramsOverviewIIBO conducts three distinct avian population monitoring programs with the followingobjectives:
• SpringMigrationMonitoringProgram(SMMP),monitoringpopulationabundance,speciesdiversity,migratorytrends,localstopoverlength,andlong-termtrendsduringthespringmigratoryperiodasbirdsrelocatefromtheirwinteringgroundstotheirbreedinggrounds,
• FallMigrationMonitoringProgram(FMMP),monitoringpopulationabundance,speciesdiversity,migratorytrends,localstopoverlength,andlong-termtrendsinbreedingproductivityduringthefallmigratoryperiodasbirdsrelocatefromtheirbreedinggroundstotheirwinteringgrounds,and
• WintersongbirdmonitoringProgram(WSMP),monitoringwinterresidentspeciesabundance,diversity,andsurvivalrates.
• From May to August, 2017, through the Canada Summer Jobs program,WildResearchhiredaMScstudentfromSimonFraserUniversity,LauraNewberry,tocollectbaselineinformationonwildlifehabitatusageatIIBO,includingbreedingsongbirds. Overall these programs are designed to monitor the abundance, diversity, annualproductivity,survivalandstop-overecologyofbirdsthatusethisurbanpark.IIBOisoneofninebirdobservatoriescurrentlyoperationalinBritishColumbia,allowingtheopportunityto compare data at local and regional scales within the province. These programs alsoprovide educational opportunities whereby volunteers work alongside experiencedornithologists,learningtoidentify,safelyhandle,andbandcapturedspecies.
2. METHODSIn2017,all three IIBOprogramsemployed thesamesamplingdesign,which features14mistnetlanes,eachofwhichare12mlong(Figure2).Netlocationsarerepresentativeofhabitat diversity and plant species compositions in Iona Island Regional Park, includingwetland and riparian habitat and native as well as invasive plant species assemblages(BishopandForrester2012;Shariff2015).Netsaresetupsuchthatthebottomofthenetis30–40cmabovetheground(Boyd2012).Netsareopenedahalfhourbeforesunriseandremainopen forup to6hoursprovided thatweatherconditions, suchaswind, rain,and cold temperatures do not endanger bird health or safety.Net rounds are conductedevery20to30minutes,dependingonweather,tominimizetheamountoftimebirdsspendinthenets(RISC1998;NABC2001;Fairetal2010;Boyd2012;MackenzieandGahbauer2014).

SpecialcareistakentotrainvolunteerstoadheretoIIBO’sbandingprotocol,andaBander-in-Charge (BIC) with an activemaster or sub- banding permit is present at all times toensure adherence tobandingprotocols (Boyd2012).All volunteers are taught tohandlebirds using bander’s and photographer’s grips (NABC 2001); both ofwhich can be usedduringextraction(Boyd2012).Allstaffandvolunteerscarryradiossothatvolunteerscanrequest assistance from the BIC to ensure bird safety during difficult extractions (Boyd2012).

Onceextracted,birdsarecarefullyplacedindividuallyinclothbagsusingbander’sgriptopreventinjuringbirdsandbroughttothebandingstation(Boyd2012).Atthestation,birdsarestoredwithintheir individualclothbagshunguponhookstoensurebirdsafety,andbirds are processed on a first-in first-out basis to minimize handling time, with theexceptionofmoresensitivespeciesorindividualsthatareprocessedsooner(Boyd2012).During processing, banders record the following information: species (subspecieswherepossible),age(hatch-year,second-year,after-second-year,after-hatch-year,orunknown),

sex(male,female,orunknown),wingchord,weight,andfatscore.Capturenetandtimearealsorecorded.Allnewbirds(birdsthathadnotbeenpreviouslycaptured)arefittedwithaCanadianWildlifeService-issuedaluminumbutt-endbandmarkedwithauniqueeightornine-digit band number. For all birds that have been previously captured (recaptures),banders recorded their unique band number, collect age and body condition data, andreleasethebird.Birdsthatwerecapturedbutunprocessedandbirdsthatwerecapturedandbandedpriorto2017andrecapturedin2017,werebothanalyzedas“new”birdsfor2017. Birds banded in 2017 which were recaptured are referred to in the report asrecaptures.For ease of reporting, subspecies of Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon’s Warbler andMyrtleWarbler), Dark-eyed Junco (Slate- coloured Junco andOregon Junco), andTraill’sFlycather (Alder Flycatcher andWillow Flycatcher) are listed as separate species in thisreport.Moreover,hummingbirdswerenotprocessedorbandedbuttheywereincludedinthecountasnewbirds.
3. RESULTSANDDISCUSSION3.1. SpringMigrationMonitoringProgram
During2017,theSMMPrandailyfromApril15toMay31.TheSMMPincludedconstant-effortmist-nettingandcollectionofmorphometricandotherdatafromeachbirdcaptured.Banding was possible on 40 fair weather days during that period, for a total effort of2277.73nethours.A total of 2,806 bird captures from 50 species occurred during the SMMP (Appendix ATableA1).Thisisabovetheaveragespeciesrichnesscapturedinthespringbetween2010and2015(38species)basedonthecumulativereportforthoseyears(Table1)(KisselandScholefield 2016). The overallmean capture rate (1.43 birds/net hour) in 2017was thehighest compared to all previous years (Table 1). The highest number of birds capturedwasonMay4thwith286captures, followedbya fewsmallerpeaksonMay10thand18thwith164and189capturesrespectively (Figure3).Newbirdswerecapturedatarateof1.23birds/nethour, and464birdswere recaptured from35speciesat a capture rateof0.20birds/nethour.Thetopfivemostfrequentnewcapturedbirdsaccountedfor61%ofnewcapturesandlikepreviousyearswerenearlyallwarblerspecies(Table1;Table2).TheseincludedWilson’sWarbler,Orange-crownedWarbler,Ruby-crownedKinglet,Audubon’sWarbler,andYellowWarbler in respective order frommost to least (Table 2). These findings are consistentwith trends in the top species captured on Iona Island in the spring in previous years(Kissel and Scholefield 2016).Wilson’sWarbler, Ruby-crownedKinglet, Orange-crownedWarbler,AmericanGoldfinch,andSongSparrowwerethefivemostfrequentlyrecapturedspecies,accountingfor82%ofallrecaptures(Table2).Ofthetotalrecaptures,17%wererecapturedmorethanonce(AppendixATableA1).AgeratiosofSYtoASYbirdsforthetopfive species for newly captured and recaptured combinedwere between 0.5:1 and 2.1:1

(Table 2). However, not all birds banded during SMMP were aged into the SY or ASYcategories. This indicates that Iona Beach Regional Parks provide important habitat forbothyoungerandolderbirds.For the top five species during the SMMP, Ruby-crowned Kinglets captures were thehighest inmid-April, followedby a steadydecrease (Figure4a). This songbird species isknowntooverwinteratIonaBeachRegionalParkandlikelyincreasinglyemigratetootherareas to breed during the SMMP. Our capture data also clearly depicts differentialmigrationtimingamongst thewarblerspecies.Audubon’sandOrange-crownedWarblersdominatemostofthecapturesinearlyMay,whereastheabundanceofWilson’sandYellowWarblersbegintopeakinmid-May(Figure4b,c,d,e).All hummingbirdswere left unprocesseddue to their small leg size and their need for aunique banding method. As such, a different federal station banding permit is requiredwhich the IIBO does not hold. Therefore, no recapture data was recorded forHummingbirdsandallcaptureswererecordedas“new”.Other interesting captures included 2 Swamp Sparrows (Figure 5) which are noted tobreedfurthereastininteriorBCbutdooccurasanon-breederorpassingmigrantatIona.Townsend’s Warbler was another notable species, which are known to breed morefrequently inconiferous forests(Figure6).Only42Violet-greenSwallowswerecapturedthisyear,whereasin2011,thisspecieswasoneofthetop5speciestobecaptured,with143banded(Boyd2012).

3.2. FallMigrationMonitoringProgramTheFMMPoperated3daysperweekfromAugust19thtoOctober30thin2017.Duringthe29fair-weatherdayswithinthatperiod,atotaleffortof1570.75nethourswereachieved.TheFMMPyielded1,758captureswithanaverageoverall capturerateof1.12birdspernethour.The2017capturerateishigherthanallpreviousyearsexceptfor2014wherebythecaptureratewasexceptionallyhigh(1.60birds/nethour;Table3).Ofthetotalcapturesin2017,1,383individualsof44specieswerenewbirds,withacapturerateof0.88birdspernethour,while281individualsfrom25specieswererecapturedatanaveragerateof0.23birdspernethour(AppendixATableA2).Among new captures, Fox Sparrows, Song Sparrows, Yellow Warblers, Golden-crownedSparrows and Orange-crownedWarblerswere the top fivemost frequent new capturedspecies,representing53%ofallnewcaptures(Table4).Allspecieswerealsolistedasthetop 5 most abundant songbird species in previous years, except for Golden-crownedSparrow. In 2017 we captured 115 Golden-crowned Sparrows, which is known to be acommon overwintering species in the Lower Mainland. Yellow Warbler and Orange-crowned Warbler abundance peaked in mid-September and began tapering off by lateSeptember.Thisissimilartocapturetrendsofthetopfivemostcommonspeciesfromthe2016 (Owen 2017) and 2015 FMMP (Buehler andNathan 2016). YellowWarblerswerecompletely absent by October 7-9, as they migrate to Mexico and South America tooverwinter. In comparison, while most Orange-crownedWarblers overwinter in Mexicoand southern U.S., a small overwintering population is known to occur in the LowerMainland; this is reflected in the near-complete absence of their occurrence at IIBOtowardstheendoftheseason.ThetopfiverecaptureswereFoxSparrowsandSongSparrows,Black-cappedChickadees,Spotted Towhees and Ruby-crowned Kinglets (Table 4), representing 64% of allrecaptures. Of the total unique recaptured individuals, 24%were recapturedmore thanonce (Appendix A Table A2). The high recapture rate likely reflects the fact that the 5speciesareknowntooverwinter inIona.Towardstheendof thefallseason, therewasasuddenincreaseintheproportionofrecapturestonewcapturesforFoxSparrows(Figure7), indicatingthatFoxSparrowsbegansettling intheiroverwinteringgroundsat IonabyOctober 14-15. Song Sparrow andGolden-crowned Sparrow, on the other hand, showedrelativelyequalratioofnewcapturestorecaptures.Forthetopfivespeciesnewlycapturedandrecapturedcombined,thisresultedinHY:AHYratiosbetween0.66:1and10.5:1forthetopfivespecies(Table5).TheresultsindicatethatIonaisanimportantmigrationstopoverandwinteringsiteforbotyoungandadultbirds.Notable species caught during the FMMP included Red-breasted Nuthatch (Figure 8), aresidentsongbirdspeciestypicallyfoundindenseconiferousforests,andNorthernHarrier(Figure9),araptorspeciesknowntooverwinterintheLowerMainland,circlingaboveinopen fields hunting for small mammals and birds. Although we could not band theNorthernHarrier due to its leg size being much larger than our target species, wedetermineditasayoungfemale,hatchedyearin2017–averyexcitingbirdtoseeupclose!

3.3. WinterSongbirdMonitoringProgramTheWSMPplanned to run four days permonth forNovember andDecember.However,inclementweatherreducedoperationsto3daysintotal(Nov.25,Dec.3,andDec10)withatotalmistneteffortof219.50nethours.WecontinuedwiththeWSMPfromJanuarytoMarch2018;however,the2018datawasnotincludedinthisreport.TheWSMPyieldedatotalof146capturesfrom17species(Figure10),representingatotalcapturerateof0.67birdspernethour.Of these,44 individualsof9 specieswerenewbirds (capture rateof0.21birds/nethour)and48 individuals from9specieswererecapturedbirdsbanded in2017(recapturerateof0.46birds/nethour)occurred.(AppendixATableA3).The five most frequent new birds included House Finch, Fox Sparrow, Golden-crownedSparrow, Song Sparrow, and Spotted Towhee, accounting for 85% of all new captures(Table 5). The top threemost frequently recaptured specieswere Fox Sparrow, SpottedTowhee,andSongSparrow.Thesespeciesaccountedfor86%ofallrecaptures(Figure10).RarecapturesduringtheWSMPincludedaNorthernShrike(Figure11),alsoknownasthe “butcherbird”due to its renowned feeding habitat of impaling their prey on thorns and,sometimes,barbedwire.

4. OUTREACHSUCCESSSTORIESManyinspiringmomentsoccuratIIBOwhenweseefirst-handthepositiveinfluencethatexperienceswithnaturehaveonthegeneralpublic,andonchildren,youth,andeldersalike.Thetwosuccessstoriesbelowillustratemomentsin2017thatwereinspiring.Outreach and citizen science are at the heart of WildResearch’s mission to build acommunity that is educated, trained, and involved in conservation science. OutreachinitiativesatIIBOincludegroupvisitsfromthecommunity,natureclubs,classvisitsfromK-12students,anduniversty/collegeclasses.The locationof IIBO in IonaBeachRegionalParkallowed foropportunities toengagewithparkusersaswell,whooften stopby thebandingstationandshowaninterestinmonitoringactivies.Volunteers contribute largely to all of WildResearch’s programs and this includes allactivitiescarriedoutat IIBO.WildResearchacknowledgesthecontributionsofvolunteerswhodonatetheirtimetoengageinmigrationmonitoringactivitiesduringtheSMMPandFMMPeachyear.ItisbecauseoftheirgenerouscontributionsthatmigrationmonitoringatIIBOispossible.

4.1. IIBOVolunteerSummaryDuringthe2017SMMP,44volunteerscontributed836.91volunteer-hourstohelpruntheIIBO banding station. During the 2017 FMMP, 37 dedicated volunteers donated 889.25hours.DuringtheWSMP,4volunteersdonated64hours(Table6).VolunteerscontributedsignificantlytoallofWildResearch’swildlifemonitoringprograms.Apart from contracted banders, everyone who contributes time at IIBO during themigrationmonitoringprogramsdoessoasavolunteer.Thedatapresentedinthisreportiscollectedbythesevolunteerswhocollectivelycontribute toover1,670hoursat IIBOperyear(nearlyequivalenttohiringafull-timeemployee!).Trainingprovidedbyexperiencedbanders resulted in many beginner volunteers rising to intermediate and advancedtraining levels, ensuring the continued success of themigrationmonitoring programs atIIBOandallowingvolunteerstogainpracticalbiologicalfieldskills.Manyofthevolunteershad little to no previous experience banding birds andwere very enthusiastic about theopportunitytobeinvolvedinbanding,especiallytheirfirstbirdinthehand.
4.2. EngagingthePublicandGroupVisitsDuring theSpringandFallMigrationMonitoringPrograms,groupvisits to IIBO includedthefollowing:

In 2017, more than 200 individuals visited IIBO during group banding demonstrationsincluding visits during the migration monitoring programs. Visiting groups includeduniversity/college classes, Nature Kids, and K-12 students. The IIBO station is gainingtraction as park visitors can experience close-up interaction with birds and learn newinformationabout thevariousbirdspecies thatuse IonaBeachRegionalParks. IIBOalsocontinuestopromotethepublictoparticipateascitizenscientiststoactivelycontributetoconservation science. In addition, this year WildResearch partnered with the CanadianWildlifeServicetoprovideabandingdemonstrationforthewinnerofthekid’sprogramofthePacificFlywayAmbassadorproject.Feedback fromleadersofvisitinggroups in2017lend high support for ourwork at IIBO, and adults and children alike are captivated bytheirexperienceofseeingbirdsinthehand.

5. CONCLUSIONSIonaIslandBirdObservatoryhassuccessfullyrunseveralprogramsforthelasteightyears(2010-2017) fulfilling both the educational and bird monitoring mandates of theobservatory.DocumentingthediversityandvolumeofbirdsonthePacificFlyawayinIonaBeachRegionalParkisprovingtohavefarreachingimpactsfromlongtermmonitoringtocitizenengagementandscientificcollaboration.Ourresultscontinuetoprovideevidencetothe importance of the Iona Park Regional Park a significant migratory stop-over andoverwinteringsiteintheLowerMainland.The2017yearwasabusyonecapturingatotalof5,127birdsover4,068mist-nethoursthroughtheSpring,Fall,andWinterseasonsandacapturerateof1.26birdspernethouror 1.26 birds per net hour. This is over double the capture rate of the VancouverAvianResearch Center’s Colony Farms Banding Station, which was in operation for just over9,500nethourswith4,351birdsbanded,foratotalcapturerateof0.55birdspernethourin2017(VancouverAvianResearchCentre2017AnnualReport).Continuation of the IIBO Program should be conducted to identify and characterize anypotentialdeclines,or continuedpatternsofdecline.The2017 IIBOmonitoringprogramscontinuetosupport importantconservationgoals,suchas identifyingthevariousspeciesusingIonaBeachRegionalPark,evaluatingtrendsinfatcontents,anddeterminingarrivaldatesofmigratingspecies.The2017datacombinedwiththeresultsofpastIIBOprogramsactsasabaselineforavianspeciesthatuseIIBOeitherasamigrationstop-overpoint,oryear-round. Analysis of a subset (2010-2015) of our data can be found in the 6-yearcumulativeIIBOreport(KisselandScholefield2016).Astheeffectsofclimatechangeandhabitatlossintensify,theseprogramsmaycontributetomanagementdecisionsatIonaBeachRegionalParkandothernaturalareasintheMetroVancouverareainordertomaintainavianspeciesdiversity.IonaIslandBirdObservatoryisaccomplishingWildResearch’s threemaingoalsof researchandmonitoringofwildlife,environmentaleducation,andcommunityengagement.ThecurrentreportstrengthenstheresearchportionofWildResearch’sgoalsbyhelpingcontributetoasharedknowledgebasethatcaninformconservationefforts.
