Training Summary A-P-T Research, Inc. provides quality service in the specialty area of Counter-

IED Training, Site Threat Awareness and Vulnerability Assessment, as well as Training Aid Development and Fabrication. We have the capability to train on-site or as a Mobile Training Team.

Our Counter-IED personnel conduct detailed site assessment and inspections,

advise on threat mitigation, security posture, force protection, and suggest facility evacuation plans.

APT will provide a vulnerability assessment, the findings and suggestions of

which will be briefed to key leaders and supervisors. This briefing will enable supervisors to determine if items are credible enough to warrant evacuation and emergency response. Along with the classroom style training for supervisory personnel, we provide questionnaires placed at key locations for employees to use in the event of an incoming threat message.

Acoustic Device

Once activated, this device initiates the circuit upon sensing any sound above a certain dB level (i.e. voices, door closing, etc.) Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Afghan-Style Hacksaw Blade Pressure Plate

Pressure plate constructed using a standard dual edged hacksaw blade, sheet metal, and coil springs. Customer would normally place inside a small garbage or shopping bag, to prevent dirt from fouling contact area, and bury slightly below dirt surface or cover with leaves, etc. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Afghan-Style Pressure Release Device

Device uses a syringe held in place by a wooden box. The syringe has a spring that is held down by customer provided weight, when removed the spring decompresses and triggers the penalty. The device penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert improvised cap.

Anti-Sweep Pressure Plate (AEOD)

This is a variation on the stripped lamp cord pressure plate. As a pressure plate it operates normally. However, it targets EOD personnel that attempt to investigate the item. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Bowed Saw Blade Pressure Plate (AEOD)

Bowed saw blade construction allows for a simple but effective pressure plate design that does not require suspension springs for the saw blade. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Cantilever Pressure Plate

This pressure plate has two activation methods. A counterbalance (rock, log, etc.) is placed on one end of the pressure plate holding the contacts apart. Method 1: Removing the counterbalance allows the contacts to touch. Method 2: Stepping on the end opposite the counterbalance causes contact of the pressure plate. This device would normally be placed in a plastic bag and buried lightly in a hole, or placed among scattered trash/debris to camouflage. Flashlight Device

Reminiscent of IEDs found in 2012 in Arizona, this flashlight contains an inert blasting cap, inert plastic explosive, and the complete working circuitry, inside the flashlight housing. This is a victim operated device set off by way of the flashlight’s normal power switch. Penalty is a buzzer – a super bright LED may be substituted at customer’s request.

Four Spring Pressure Plate

Progressive Ball Bearing Pressure Plate

This pressure plate makes use of ball bearings and a bed of foam. The foam being worn down by continuous traffic, the ball bearings eventually make contact with both sides of the circuit. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Somali-Style Hacksaw Pressure Plate

Pressure plate device, of a design found in the Horn of Africa, which employs 4 hacksaw blades as contacts. This design uses no spring material and either set of contacts will function the device. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted) with a shunted, inert, improvised cap.

Three Piece Tire Pressure Plate

A low metal content pressure plate that makes use of the rubber tire snap back design. This particular version provides an effective pressure area of 16-18” in length, as opposed to 6-8” of the standard snap backs. This design also utilizes magnet wire as contacts. Under Vehicle Limpet Device

The device uses two rare earth magnets to attach to the underside of a vehicle. A hinged flap arms the device once the vehicle reaches a speed that has enough force to depress it. The device will function as the vehicle slows and the flap no longer provides pressure.

Cell Phone Limpet Device With Anti-Removal

This device utilizes magnets to attach to the underside of a vehicle or any metal target. Primary functioning, of this device, utilizes a cell phone. However, this device also incorporates an anti-removal feature, as a secondary means of functioning. This device incorporates a buzzer for the penalty, but an LED may be substituted, at customer’s request.

Motorcycle Alarm Device

This RFT-2 device pairs with a commercial off the shelf switching circuit and comes with a YK-2000 remote. Penalty is a buzzer (LED may be substituted)

Steel Pipe Hand Grenade

This is an example of a hand grenade that could be assembled from readily available steel water pipe couplings and plugs. It is filled with inert black powder simulant and fused with inert hobby fuse. A makeshift striker utilizing two wooden matches and a piece of sand paper complete the design.

Add-On Clothes Pin Arming Feature

Clothespin arming of a pressure plate allows the pressure plate to be emplaced at the operator’s leisure, and actually armed at the precise moment that he decides. It also can be utilized as a safe separation arming feature, allowing arming of the device from a safe distance. This arming feature can be added to most pressure plate designs for an additional fee.
