I greet you in the name, grace and peace of our Lord Jesus!

It was with fear and trepidation that I sat at my desk this morning and

heard the dread word no pastor wishes to hear: (from Lacy in the outer

office:) “Have you done your article for the June Script Shores?!”

Never have I been more sure that God “has my back!” Scriptures popped

into my head, and an idea and outline soon followed (wish it was this

quick and Holy Spirit-inspired all the time!). Two scriptures are given to

a people who are SO in need of HOPE! Here they are:

2nd Corinthians 4: 1 “Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of

God, we do not lose heart!”

1st Corinthians 15: 58 “Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord,

knowing that in the Lord your labor

is not in vain!”

Today our World, and all the people in it, are (or we believe we are!) in

situations that seem as shaky as leaves on trees in the middle of a

hurricane! Leaders and people in the Middle and Far East seem bent on

bringing about World War Three! Our nation’s leaders can’t even agree

that today is Wednesday (at time of writing). Our Church is in crisis, in

Universal and United Methodist senses. The Media offer opinions and

not facts, are usually politically motivated, and the truth is somewhere in

the next county!

As it says in Esther 4:14, perhaps we are called “to just such a time as

this!” God has an immense amount of trust and faith in us! We are here

in Hampstead, at our church, because God believes in us, and believes

that we can weather the current “storms” that seem to fall on all sides!

And if God believes in you/us, how dare you/we contradict Him!!

We WILL survive as a great nation! We WILL move toward spiritual

holiness! We WILL faithfully share the Gospel of salvation! We WILL

strive to better the lives of the less fortunate! We WILL bless God, and

He will bless us! Do NOT lose heart! Be steadfast! Immovable! You are

doing God’s work!

It doesn’t get any better than this! GBY! Skip

MUNCH—BackPack Meals Program

By the time this is printed, MUNCH will be winding down at the schools. HOWEVER, the program

continues through the summer months thanks to the wonderful folks at Faith Harbor UMC! The actual num-

bers of recipients will decline, somewhat, but the need for continued food and monetary support remains

solid.

Juvenile hunger in this country, this state, this county, and this community remains an issue that hin-

ders education – the key to self-sustenance and breaking the cycle of poverty. I would like to express my sin-

cere thanks to HUMC members and attendees for your ongoing and strong backing for our efforts.

We always accept monetary donations. If by check, simply put MUNCH in the memo field and the

monies go to our account!

Our most needed items are listed below.

· Pasta Sauce (24 oz. can/plastic) · Pasta 1lb box · Spaghetti O’s or store brand equivalent · Cereal · Canned chicken and tuna · Tuna and Chicken “Helpers” · Granola Bars, Peanut Butter Crackers · Pancake/Waffle Mix and Syrup · Canned fruit and vegetables

Again, thanks for your generous support of MUNCH!

—Chip Davis, MUNCH Coordinator

Preschool News Our End of Year Celebration and picnic was held on Thursday, May

25. Thanks to all of our staff, parents and children. Each class performed,

and the pre-k class “graduated.” This was a great event, bringing the 2016-

2017 preschool year to a close. There was lots of fun, fellowship and a varie-

ty of food enjoyed by all.

Many thanks to our church family and friends for your continued support of our program.

Thanks to those of you who continue to contribute to the Griggs Scholarship Fund. Thanks to

our staff for your dedication to your students. You are a top notch group of ladies who work so

well together and rock at representing HUMC! Thanks to Melody Doyle for helping with our

graduation program by running the music and dvd presentation. Thanks to Lacy Quehl for

printing the programs and assisting Melody. Thanks to Skip for the lovely Teacher Appreciation

Luncheon, leading chapel and everything you do for us throughout the year. Thanks to Trudy

for helping with chapel and all the visits to say hello. Thanks to Diane Lane for helping us con-

tinue our card ministry.

Though we will not be having Summer Camp this year, several staff members and I will

be working during the summer months to prepare for the next school year.

Happy June! Have a safe and happy summer.

Peace and prayers,

Judy Lane

Music Notes

Hey Folks!

Summer arrives this month, and I think we are

ALL ready for some warm weather and sunshine. (Bugs and

humidity can stay away!)

Our Handbell Choir finished up our season with a flourish on

5/14, playing 3 songs at both 8:30 and 11AM! There is SO

much that goes into putting a handbell song together, and the

most important factor is the TEAMWORK that has to take

place! We all rely on each other to come in when needed, to not

get lost, to turn the pages with our 3rd hand, etc. So it is never

easy to say goodbye to one of our own, but alas, we must from

time to time! Lil Duffus is retiring from bells, after having played for years in her former church, and then

joining us in the fall of 2013. She turns 90 this September, and we all have to give up SOME things as we get

older, and for her, it won’t be bowling or going to the gym!! (Amazing!!) We appreciate her dedication to

our Music Ministry, and wish her well in her “retirement,” as she will now sit and listen from the congrega-

tion, and wonder how she played “all those notes” for so many years. Thank you, Lil!!!!!

Our Music Calendar slows down very little this month, as our Praise Team and Choir are still singing weekly

anthems. You may have noticed, our number of participants seems to waiver from week to week, with vaca-

tions taking place, so if you have ever considered singing with one of these groups, NOW is the best time to

jump in! No Cantatas are on the immediate horizon, and we sing one song per week, while practicing only 4

songs per rehearsal! We DO hope that, if you have been considering this at

ANY time, you will decide NOW is the RIGHT time to come join us! Give it

a try! You might just enjoy singing with others and the camaraderie that

comes along with it!

With June, comes Graduation! With Graduation, comes Baccalaureate! Our

Choir will be joining other local churches’ choirs at this year’s Baccalaureate

on June 4th at 6PM, at the THS Auditorium. I do hope that others will come to

support these young men and women, as they start their journey from high

school into adulthood. With that having been said, our HUMC Graduates will

be honored that morning at our 9:45 service. The Choir’s anthem at 11AM,

will be the dynamic “We Believe,” which is the song that will be featured that

evening at Baccalaureate. Its message is universal; it’s what we, as Chris-

tians, believe. “We believe in God the Father, we believe in Jesus Christ, we

believe in the Holy Spirit, and He’s given us new life. We believe in the cru-

cifixion, we believe that He conquered death, we believe in the resurrection,

and He’s coming back again!” How’s THAT for a message?!

So, until next month’s letter, enjoy some sunshine! (Wear sunscreen!) Enjoy all the beauty around you, that

God gives to us, each and every day!

Yours in Song,

Patti

Congratulations, Grads!!

What Do You Remember? WARM/Spirit Center 2011-2016

It all started with Tom Burns. WARM needed space in Hampstead. Church Council said yes and WARM

moved in. Other ‘stirrings’ of the Spirit were also happening.

February 2012 Healing Prayer Ministry envisioned space to develop a Spiritual Life Center. Such a

space could encourage intentional growth toward Christ. Patterned after John Wesley it would

offer Bible study, Prayer, Healthy Lifestyle options, Day Retreats. It would be open to our commu-

nity. Church Council approved, naming it “HUMC Spirit Center.”

Ladies Community Bible Study met with over 30 women in attendance.

Hampstead Ministerial Association met and fellowshipped there.

Healing Prayer Ministry sat with people, prayed in the quiet, confidential space.

Covenant Group of about 12 people met for a season of listening and prayer.

Young Life met weekly

Confidential Conversations were scheduled

Christian Counseling (Delores Riley) was offered in that private space

Nutritional Counsel was offered in the private setting

Spiritual Companionship by appointment

Private prayer time was available

Accountability group, Women’s Support Group and Book Study

Harley Mullins invited John Gentry to church. John was housed in Spirit Center and worked and

worshiped with us for 2 years

Hospice Grief Counseling for Youth was offered

OWLS met there

Ladies Bible Study continued into a summer study in 2014

Prayer Group met weekly until Spirit Center closed, September, 2016

Hope the cat kept John company

hands. Carolyn and Gary Taylor

Much Love and appreciation for prayers and the prayer shawl during

Greetings from Queenie the Church Mouse!

Can you believe it! The seasons are once again changing from spring into summer! June is a

month that we get out the surf boards, the sunscreen, beach umbrellas and coolers …. ready to hit the beach

for a little rest-and-relaxation. As a teen mouse, growing up in Durham, we would pack up and head for Hyco

Lake in Orange County as it wasn’t as far as going to Jordan or Falls Lake. We have extended family in both

locations and places to stay which was great as we were protected from feral cats and dogs off their leashes. I

have many fond and joyful memories of good meals, laughter, and burning my nose and paws from too much

sun. Yes, even mice suffer from sunburn!!

Thinking back to time on the lake also reminds me of the temptations to go swimming, boating, or just

lying in the sun on Sunday Mornings. Mom and Dad never yelled at us, but they made their point and we

were dressed and ready to attend Sunday school and worship by 9:30 a.m. After church, we would pack a

picnic lunch and join other church families out in the meadow. The food would be blessed, and thanks would

be given to God for all that we have. We were reminded that God made this earth for all of us to enjoy and

giving God time not just on Sundays but every day was a time of giving God the glory and praise for all of

creation. We also give God the glory and praise through taking care of the earth, thanking Him for all that we

have through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

God calls us to be the church, even at the beach, boating on the waterway, or at the lake. It’s like the

field mice that live near the soccer fields finding Christ through my actions. I’m not taking credit or bragging,

only saying that I’m happy knowing that I allowed Christ to use me as a light guiding their path to Him.

So, my friends, pray with me that June will be the month that we strive to bring others to Christ and that we

will take a chance and ask others to come and worship with us at Hampstead UMC.

Until next month, I remain your faithful Church Mouse, —Queenie
