The 2017 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) was a multidimensional, two-day event for middle and high school students in the Borderplex Region designed to increase student awareness of career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math disciplines. This year there were seven STEAM high school competitions in addition to workshop rotations for middle schoolers.

1,200 middle school students participated in workshop learning in the concentrations of architecture, culinary arts and cybersecurity. Over 30 exhibitors entertained the students as they navigated the event. Dan Barstow with CASIS presented the group. High school competitions in the APP Design (sponsored by Western Tech), Robotics (sponsored by UTEP College of Engineering at Eastwood Robotics), and the STEAMentorship also took place.

STEAM Fiesta commenced with an awards ceremony on Friday, April 7th. This was the culmination of efforts that impacted regional middle school students along with high school competitors. Over $34,000 in cash prizes and scholarships was awarded to students and schools.
