Our fourth annual event in Chicago, The Magic Ball, was held in 2016, attracting over 600 guests and
raising over $1,000,000 to support Camp Kesem.

only masterfully led the program,
but announced a matching
grant from the Chicago
Sun-Times Foundation.
The evening began with a private reception for sponsors, hosted by Camp Kesem’s Chicago Board.
Guests bid on one-of-a-kind experiences, including a Chicago Blackhawks package
introduced by Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Event sponsors, including Boeing, Victory Park Capital, Giordano’s, The Pritzker Pucker Family Foundation, Goldman Sachs, Katten, United Airlines, Ventas and Merrill Lynch, shared the memorable evening with guests and clients.
Kesem CEO, Jane Saccaro, introduced the evening’s surprise guest, Marty Shamon -
whose personal story as a child touched by a parent’s cancer was shared in a
heartwarming video.
After programming, guests continued the party witha Grammy Award-winning DJ.
Camp Kesem ImpactCamp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders,
that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer.
Serving children ages 6 to 16, Camp Kesem is provided free of charge to our campers. Camp Kesem was founded at Stanford University in 2000 and now has over 80 chapters in 38 states. In summer 2016, Camp Kesem served 6,000 children - with a goal of serving over 7,000 children in summer 2017.
After attending Camp Kesem, parents report their children are more comfortable expressing their feelings, more connected to other children, more confident about handling challenges, and feel better about themselves as a whole.

Cultivating College Student LeadersEach of our camps is run by a team of passionate college student leaders who receive year-round
training and support from Kesem’s national leadership staff.
These leaders are full-time undergraduate students at universities
across the country. In addition to their academic workload, these
students:
● Raise anywhere between $20,000–$140,000 annually
● Create, track, and manage their own budget
● Market and publicize Camp Kesem to their local community
● Develop community partnerships for camper recruitment
(with healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations,
after-school programs and the like)
● Recruit and train 20–130+ counselors
● Meet highly-structured standards and milestones established
and monitored by Kesem’s national leadership staff
Our college student leaders leave their Camp Kesem experience not
only with a strong sense of serving others, they also gain invaluable
experience in creative problem solving, project management,
community relations, marketing, human resources, accounting, and
fundraising.
