SUMMER INTERNSHIP AGES: 15-17This is a volunteer opportunity for teens to work with younger campers. Summer internship positions must be applied for and are not automatically guaranteed. Teens who have attended our Leader In Training (LIT) Camp in previous years are given priority. Teens who are selected to participate in our summer internship gain valuable life skills that they can take with them into college and future careers. This also is a great opportunity to get some community service hours, which may be required for high school graduation. Teens are mentored by senior staff and given regular feedback throughout the summer. To schedule an interview for an internship position, visit our website ymcasv.org/central and download a volunteer application. Then complete and submit it to Jorge Hererra, 408 351 6314.

For details call 408 351 6314

Teen Leadership Camps are designed for our future leaders. The program operates as follows:

First Summer Leaders In Training, or “LITs,” must complete Leaders in Training I. Then they may participate in as many weeks of LIT Work Experience as they would like.

Second Summer LITs must complete Leaders in Training II. Then they may participate in as many weeks of LIT Work Experience as they would like.

Third Summer LITs must complete Leaders in Training I. This will serve as a refresher course of training for our LITs. Then they may participate in as many weeks of LIT Work Experience as they would like.

YMCA CAMP CAMPBELL TRADITIONAL OVERNIGHT CAMPS

OUR PROGRAM Our two-week program emphasizes growth and strengthening character values in all campers. Throughout the program, campers learn more about themselves and how to work together as a cabin group. Whether it is playing an all-camp game, learning new skills in an activity session, eating meals in the dining lodge, or dressing up for our Wacky Tacky Tuesdays, campers form meaningful relationships, try new things, and have tons of fun.

Camp is full of traditional outdoor activities like campfires, hikes, skits and songs, cabin cheers, and the chance to sleep under the stars. Over two weeks, campers disconnect from the technology and distractions of outside life. Here at camp, our number one priority is providing a safe, positive camper experience. We believe that campers are most successful when given the opportunity to push themselves out of their comfort zones and discover resiliency, responsibility and confidence in themselves.

SKILL DEVELOPMENTAt YMCA Camp Campbell, we value camper’s choices by giving them a voice. Campers are asked to pursue four activity areas they are passionate about. Campers participating in the traditional two week program will work towards progressing, developing, and achieving new skills in their two week long activity choices. Campers get to try additional activities on camper choice days.

Progressive: Throughout the two weeks campers develop their skills and abilities in these four activity areas.Discover: Campers are given additional activity choices during the week to try new activities and discover what he/she can achieve away from home and school.Achieve: Through these achievements campers build confidence, knowledge, and a new found sense of excitement to learn. Achievements are celebrated at the end of each two week session.

CABIN LIFE One of the best parts of camp is meeting new people and spending time together as a cabin. In cabins, campers of similar ages live together and learn to make lasting friendships. Campers develop camaraderie with their cabin mates and counselors as they learn to make decisions as a group. Our staff are positive adult role models that help campers take responsibility for themselves and others, work together to solve problems, and have fun at camp.

MEALSOur kitchen staff prepare wholesome, kid-friendly food. Meals are a great time to meet new campers and counselors and to learn a sense of responsibility. While supervised by counselors, campers serve their own food and clean up their own table. Our menu is full of variety and options for our campers and we can accommodate most dietary restrictions.

Young people who participate as LITs emerge from their two week adventure confident and ready to rise to just about any challenge put in front of them.LITs are teens that are ready to step up to the next level and prepare for their future roles at camp and society. The LIT program is a program that helps prepare teens for adulthood, college, and additional responsibility. It is an opportunity for teens to step away from technology and school pressures and grow together as a community that supports each other in trying new things, becoming strong role models and taking on challenges, like our

HELP OUR CHILDREN THRIVEAt the Y, we partner with Project Cornerstone to help adults connect with young people in positive ways to help young people thrive. Research shows that there are essential elements that are crucial to healthy development. We call these elements “Developmental Assets.” They are an integral part of our programs and services.

Developmental Assets help create positive experiences, relationships, opportunities and values that young people need to thrive. Examples of these key assets include: adult role models; positive peer influence; caring environments; positive cultural identity; and a community that values youth.

For more details on the 41 research-based Developmental Assets and the organization that drives these efforts, visit www.projectcornerstone.org
