We are pleased to have you as a part of our program, and we hope that you will give your utmost in helping us to create outstanding musical ensembles. It is necessary to have certain written policies governing our members. By presenting these policies in this handbook, many unnecessary misunderstandings can be avoided. You may receive an individual printed copy of the handbook by notifying the directors. We ask that both parents/guardians and students read all sections of the handbook that apply to your course(s). ConcertperformancesarescheduledatBurkeHighSchoolasanextensionoftheregularclassroom.Partofthelearningprocessincludesliveperformance.*Calltimeforconcertsisnormally30-60minutespriortotheconcert.Planforenoughtimetobedressedinconcertattire,assembleyourinstrument,andtowarm-upandtune.Wewillalsomakeadditionalannouncementsatthattime.

B. Mostconcertswilllastapproximatelyonehour.Thestudentsareexpectedtobe

presentfortheentireprogram.Wealsoencouragetheaudiencetobecourteoustoallofthestudentsperformingontheprogrambystayingfortheentireconcert.

UniformsMarching/HonorsConcertBand/PrepBandBurkeHighBandshavealong-standingtraditionofnotonlysoundinggood,butlookinggood.Partofmaintainingthistraditionistakingcareoftheuniformsissuedtostudents.Studentswillbeassignedauniformbyourbanduniformcommitteeafterhavingitfitted. StudentsARENOTtotakeuniformshomeunlessgivenspecialpermissionbythedirectors.Uniformswillbekeptintheuniformstorageroomlocatedinthebandroomandwillbecheckedinandoutforeachevent.Whiletheuniformischeckedouttothestudent,he/sheisresponsibleforanydamage/lossoftheuniformoranypartsoftheuniform.Theband’sappearanceisthefirstfactorthatpeopleconsiderwhenjudgingabandandthisevaluationtakesplacebeforethefirstnoteisplayed.Wheninuniform,studentsareEXPECTEDtoweartheuniformcorrectly.Nostudentshouldbeviewedbythepublicoutofuniform.Studentsshouldhavepantsfastened,jacketsonandzipped.Iftheensemblehashatson,theyaretobeworncorrectly.

B. StudentswillwearBurkeMarchingBand2017showshirtsonlyunderthejacket.Theshowshirtispartoftheuniform.Occasionally,inhotweather,thedirectorswillgivepermissionforstudentstoopentheirjackets.ThebandMUSTstilllookuniform.Thisalsopreventsthewearingofinappropriatet-shirts.

C. StudentsmustwearBLACKATHLETIC/DRESSSOCKS.ThesocksCANNOTbetheanklehighsocks.Ifstudentsareunabletoobtainsocksorlosethem,theycanpurchaseblacksocksatacostof$2.00perpair.Iftheyareunabletopayforthesocksatthattime,theirnamewillbeputonalistandtheywillbeexpectedtopayassoonaspossible.Allunpaidfeeswillbeplacedonthefinelistattheendofthesemester.

StudentsMAYNOTwearjewelry.Partofmarchingbandishavingeveryonebeuniforminappearance.Studentswhohavepiercingsmustremovethemforallperformances.Ifthestudentrecentlygottheirpiercingandisunabletoremoveit,theyareexpectedtocoveritwithafleshcolorband-aidoruseclearstuds.Studentswithgaugesmustreplacethemwithcleargaugesforperformances.Studentsmaynotwearwatchesorrings.
