Block Assembly1. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 21 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the 23” x 21 ½” Fabric A panel. Sew (1) 3” x 27” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A panel. Trim the block to measure 25 ½” square to make (1) Unit 1 block (Fig. 1).

2. Sew (1) 2” x 25 ½” Fabric C strip to each side of the Unit 1 block. Sew (1) 2” x 28 ½” Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 1 block to make the Center Block (Fig. 2).

3. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric H square on the left side of (1) 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric I strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 4). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

4. Place another 3 ½” Fabric H square on the right side of the 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric I strip, right sides together (Fig. 5). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 6).

5. Repeat Steps 3-4 to make (16) Unit 2 strips.

6. Repeat Steps 3-4 and refer to Figures 7-8 for fabric identification, location and seam direction to make (24) Unit 3 strips and (16) Unit 4 strips.

7. Sew (1) 3 ½” Fabric I square to each end of (1) Unit 2 strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew (1) Unit 2 strip to each side of (1) 6 ½” Fabric G square to make the middle row. Sew the (3) rows together to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 9). Repeat to make (4) Block One squares total.

Pay attention to the orientation of the units when constructing the blocks in the following steps.

8. Repeat Step 7 and refer to Figures 10-11 for component identification, location and orientation to make (6) Block Two squares and (4) Block Three squares.

11. Sew (1) 4 ½” x 36 ½” Fabric E strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 4 ¼” x 44 ½” Fabric E strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

12. Sew (1) 6 ½” x 44 ½” Fabric F strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

13. Sew (1) Block Four rectangle, (1) Block Three square, (1) Block Four rectangle, (1) Block Two square and (1) Block Four rectangle together in that order to make (1) Side

Border. Repeat to make a second Side Border. Sew (1) border to each side of the Center Block.

14. Sew (1) Block One square, (1) 2 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip, (1) Block Two square, (1) 2 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip, (1) Block Three square, (1) 2 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip, (1) Block Two square, (1) 2 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip and (1) Block One square together in that order to make the Top Border. Repeat to make the Bottom Border. Sew the borders to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

15. Layer and quilt as desired.

16. Sew the (8) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric B strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

17. Bind as desired.
