Sun West School Division Board of Education
Sun West School Division is governed by a Board of Education consisting of nine elected representatives. Board members are elected to serve four-year terms. Meetings are normally held the fourth Tuesday of each month, with the exception of July and August, commencing at 9:00 a.m.
School Community Councils (SCCs) There are 23 SCCs in Sun West School Division. Membership is made up of parents, community members, teachers and school-based administrators. School Community Councils play a critical role in helping schools with improvement planning and improving family engagement.

Education
Under the leadership of the Director of Education, Sun West School Division's Superintendents of Education and Student Support Services Supervisor provide professional guidance for school-based administrators, teachers and support staff. They also develop processes, practices and procedures for curriculum and instruction, student support, and work with School Community Councils.

Student Leadership Mentor Career Development
The Division recognizes the importance of Career Development as essential in assisting students to develop the skills and competencies they will need in order to ensure successful transitions beyond our educational system. All schools with grades 9-12 in the Division have a designated Career Development teacher. Components of the Career Development Plan include: Middle Level Career Education, Career Counselling, Career and Work Exploration (CWEX), Apprenticeship Credit, Job Shadow and Off-Site Work-Based Activities.
Career Fair Every other year, a team of student leaders comes together to help plan and organize our ROADS TO SUCCESS Career Fair for Grade 10 and 11 students from across the division. The Career Fair is held in Rosetown and various educational and business related booths provide opportunities for students to gather information to educate them on future careers. The next Career Fair will be held in 2020.
Student Leadership
Team Sun West Sun West students in Grades 8-12 apply to be part of “Team Sun West (TSW)”. This team of student leaders organizes, prepares and plans an annual division-wide student led leadership conference. There is a different theme each year and the conference is hosted in different locations across the division.
Youth Consultation Group Every year, student representatives from Sun West schools apply to be involved on our Youth Consultation Group. This opportunity provides students with a platform to gather student voice on relevant ideas/issues and share research, findings, ideas, suggestions, etc. with the Sun West Board of Education. The intent is to inform and improve student programming and policies in order to further engage students and improve their quality of education.
Student Tutors This is a new leadership opportunity in which a team of Sun West Student Leaders collaborate with students from a private school in the United States. This global opportunity is a unique partnership and an incredible way for students to network, broaden their horizons, and expand their leadership skills.
As we explore new ways of learning and find out more about ourselves and how we learn best, that gradual and deliberate transfer of responsibility starts to occur. As students mature and become more familiar with personalized processes, they will assume increasing amounts of decision-making responsibility.
Educators become activators of learning, creating 21st century
culture and providing access to the supports and resources that
learners need to succeed.
Student voice and choice become drivers in determining the path towards achievement of personal and curricular goals.
PeBL is a term unique to Sun West used to describe a series of
activities that enable all of our schools to fully embrace the global
best practices of personalized and blended learning.
Many of our innovative teachers have already incorporated these
practices in their classroom; now we are deliberately creating
opportunities to share and build on our collective understanding
and application of them.
Through PeBL, we are creating a strong and encouraging school
culture and broadening our individual and collective sense of
self. We are working to ensure that all students have access to
exceptional opportunities to learn about curricular topics they are
passionate about in a way that complement their individual
learning style.
What is PeBL? A learner centred process that supports the gradual and deliberate transfer of responsibility between educator and student.
What is the long term goal of PeBL? To contribute to the embodiment and practice of 21st century skills, preparing learners to realize their full potential in all aspects of life.

The DLC will accommodate your learning needs whenever and
wherever you are. Students can choose from over 160 DLC
courses and explore dual credit or advanced placement courses
to fast track the post secondary experience. Assistance is
available from instructors via email, phone, Skype or in-person
at the Sun West Distance Learning Centre.
Reminder to Sun West Students Before requesting a course…
We encourage students to contact your school principal,
guidance counsellor or phone 1 (306) 252-1000 to ensure
that an online course will fit in your timetable and meet your
long term educational goals.
Maybe you’re enrolled in:
a traditional school but are looking for more options
for high school electives;
training for a sport or some other extra-curricular
program and need your education to work around
practices;
your family is going on an extended vacation and
you'd like to keep up with your studies while you are
away; or
a parent looking to create a home-based learning
environment for your child and are looking for
support.
The DLC can be of assistance to you.
The Sun West Distance Learning Centre is Saskatchewan’s largest online school. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 can access educational resources and teachers at a
pace, time and place that suits their needs.
Agriculture Equipment Technician 20L Learn to identify different farm implements, explore how they are
used in the agricultural process and acquire fundamental
knowledge of the tools used in their upkeep and repair. This
course includes 50 hours of online theory, 40 hours at a work
placement and 10 hours exploring the post-secondary certificate
program at Sask Polytechnic.
For a complete course directory, visit www.sunwestDLC.ca.
Agriculture & Sustainable Food Production 10L Explore the agriculture industry in its entirety; from farming, where
commodities are produced; to the value-added sector, where
those commodities are turned into consumable products; to the
marketing and logistics of those products; to the consumer's plate.
In doing so, students will begin to make connections between
consumer, the food we eat and our local agriculture industry.
New Agriculture Courses Available in 2018-19
With more than 90 online high school electives, the Sun West DLC provides students
with choice in when, where and how they learn. All course notes, reading materials and
instructional videos are housed in our online learning environment, DLCgo, and are
accessible 24 hours a day. Our team of 70+ teachers is available during regular school
hours and can offer support via phone, email, and video conference.
Educational Assistants in each Sun West school are also available to support students
in requesting new courses, getting set up for their first online class and communicating
with the DLC teacher as needed. For technical support, students can access the DLC
Helpdesk at www.help.sunwestDLC.ca.
In cooperation with Hutterite Colonies, Sun West School Division provides teachers and support staff for our Colony Schools.
