WelcomeMassachusetts Horticultural Society (Mass Hort) continues to be busy throughout the fall and winter months. In this catalog, you will find dozens of lectures, workshops, and courses meant to inspire and educate. There are also events like the Festival of Trees, now in its tenth year, which has become an annual holiday activity for friends and families throughout the area. We are excited to welcome thousands of visitors to this event as well as to see the competitions and exhibits of Mass Hort at the Flower Show in Boston this coming March.

More people than ever have attended classes in 2018! I hope you will join us to learn more about gardening, to improve your landscape, or to develop a plant-inspired art form.

New this year, Wellesley College Botanic Gardens will be offering their art classes at The Gardens at Elm Bank while their site is under construction. They have welcomed our members to register at lower rates. Also, the New England Unit of the Herb Society of America, in continuation of our long-standing partnership, has opened their programs to Mass Hort members. We are grateful to these esteemed organizations and hope you will take advantage of this new benefit.

We have classes for all levels, whether you are a novice gardener or flower designer, or a professional grower—I’m sure you will find something as you peruse our class offerings. Mass Hort is here to support and develop your love and exploration of the wonderful world of horticulture.

I hope to see you in the classroom, the gardens, and the exhibit halls.

Warm regards,

Katherine K. MacdonaldPresident

Our garden educators led weekly family programs which taught nearly 1,000 visitors of all ages. A new topic was presented each week, such as Plants as Engineers, The Families of Flowers, and Beautiful Butterflies. Children exploring the

pollinator garden might have found a monarch caterpillar nibbling on

milkweed.

We are grateful to the all the companies that set up corporate volunteer days in the gardens this year-they had such a big impact!

GOOD THINGS ARE BLOOMING AT MASS HORT!

We welcomed over 50 new volunteers (of all ages) this summer who came to help, get their hands dirty, learn about plants, and care for the gardens.
