Art Starz: Canvas Kids (Ages 6+)Young artists will have a blast painting animals, still life and landscapes using a step-by-step method. Art Starz instructors will cover basic color theory and fun techniques that can be used to produce magnificent paintings every time. Your young artist will paint at least one large painting on canvas and one mini canvas with an easel as well as various sizes in between. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class. All supplies are of professional quality.

Art Starz: Cartoon Drawing (Ages 6+)Does your child have a knack for doodling? Experienced Art Starz instructors will guide young cartoonists in creating a variety of drawings as well as their own original characters. Students will produce a three-panel comic strip and learn to incorporate word bubbles, inking and other elements of interest. Various types of hand-drawn animation including flipbooks and an animation wheel will also be created. Learning continues with tricks of famous cartoonists, optical illusions and an explanation on how cartoon movies work. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Art Starz: Watercolor Wonders (Ages 6+)Has your child ever wondered about the magic behind watercolor? This week young artists will learn a wet-into-wet painting method, dropping “jewels” and other techniques from a professional painter. They will have fun practicing and experimenting with different color combinations as well as different types of watercolor media. Young artists will produce small postcard sized paintings as well as large paintings that will be suitable for framing. Every artist will have one of their pieces framed to proudly display at home! New! Crayola® - World of Design (Ages 6-12)Students will take a journey to the farthest reaches of the imagination while learning about the rainforest, Hollywood, Mars and a futuristic city! Students will use the design thinking process to solve real-world problems in these different environments as well as experiment with Crayola® products and many art techniques like sculpting, storyboarding, collage and mixed media. Design careers like graphic design, universal design, urban design and product design will also be explored. Instruction provided by Imagine Arts Academy™ of Austin & San Antonio. All supplies are included.

Fashion Designer (Ages 8-12)Young girls graduate from playing dress up to designing their own fashions by using the same design principles used by professionals. Basic sketching techniques, coordinating colors for the best effect, mixing textures and patterns for scale and perception and applying cultural fashion history to each girl’s individual style and portfolio will be covered. Designs come to life with beautifully patterned papers, ribbons, sequins, jewels and oodles of other embellishments. Collaborative “design team” challenges make this hands-on, minds-on adventure into the world of design very exciting. No sewing is done in this class. Instruction provided by Fastforward Kids.

Music, Dance & DramaMove & Groove - Urban Art & Dance (Ages 5-10)Young dancers will move and groove as they explore self-expression through the arts. Classes start off with a fun and creative urban art lesson. Then we wipe our hands clean and get funky with an active hip hop session. Our week long workshops are great for first time dancers and we keep lessons challenging for our more experienced students. Student artwork and dance moves will be shown off to family and friends at our end of program art show. Students are separated into two groups during class, ages 5-7 and 8-10. Breakdancing 101 (Ages 5-10)Breakdancing is the most athletic and acrobatic branch of hip-hop dance. Young dancers will learn the value of hard work, determination, commitment and repetition through positive reinforcement and fun filled challenges. Classes will incorporate a fun, safe and efficient pathway to learning breakdancing starting with basic hip-hop dance moves then transition to more challenging breakdancing concepts under the instruction of Onsite Youth Training instructors. Young dancers will end the week with a mini performance to display their newly acquired skills. Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes and bring a water bottle to each class.

iPianoLab (Ages 5-13)What’s the coolest thing your child can do this summer? Learn piano or keyboard with iPianoLab! While most students start out learning drills or “baby songs,” iPianoLab students get to play songs they like right from the first lesson! One Republic, SpongeBob, Taylor Swift, Super Mario Bros, Star Wars, even Bach and Beethoven are all within reach, right from the first class! This comprehensive approach teaches all the essential keyboard basics including note reading, counting and rhythms, chords and more! A child who likes practicing their songs is a child who will make rapid progress on the instrument. All supplies are included.

Culinary ArtsCreative Cookie Decorating 101 (Ages 7-12)Want to combine your child’s love of art and sweets? Creative pastry designer Amy Roussin presents a fun cookie decorating class where your child will learn different decorating techniques and layering through the week. They’ll travel from season to season decorating a variety of holiday treats with a mystery holiday chosen by the class! Emojis will even make their appearance as they have fun celebrating the seasons. A supply fee of $25 is payable to the instructor on the first day of class and includes a take-home container, cookies, icing and decorating tools. All students need to bring is an apron and their imagination! Learning has never been so much fun... or so tasty!

Daily scrimmages will provide an opportunity to practice the developed skills while having a fun time. Class is held indoors and both boys and girls are encouraged to attend. Junior paleontologists will learn all about dinosaurs, create fossils and coprolites, participate in a dinosaur dig and more. Class also includes dinosaur themed LEGO® building challenges and dinosaur crafts and games. A supply fee of $10 is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Athletic Strength & Speed Training (Ages 8-12)Uplifted Performance and Fitness helps enhance athleticism through the development of speed and agility as well as enhancement of reaction, explosiveness and power to optimize performance. Athletes are challenged to increase movement, efficiency and technique (lateral, linear and multi-directional movement). Focus areas include acceleration, deceleration, plyometrics, change-of-direction and power training. Classes will also include competitive drills and challenges including ladders, cones, resistance equipment, hurdles, medicine balls and weights. Students should bring a water bottle and athletic shoes to each class.

By changing how students view simple objects, they will use the art form of parkour to overcome obstacles as swiftly and efficiently as possible using only their bodies. At any level of experience, parkour offers a full body workout, improves one’s ability to move, increases confidence and changes how one sees the world. Parkour is also a system of fitness training that improves strength, speed, agility, coordination, stamina, endurance and precision. Students should come dressed with closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle to each class.

GENERAL INFORMATION— Classes in this publication are for youth only. We ask that you adhere to the age requirements listed in the course description. The Community Education Program of NEISD is conducted for the benefit and enjoyment of community patrons. Classes are offered for people of all ages regardless of where they live. Classes offered are non-credit. Financial support for the program comes from class tuition. Every effort has been made to make this publication accurate as of the publication date; however, all policies, tuitions/fees, instructors and class content are subject to change at any time by appropriate action of instructors or administrators of this program. All classes require pre-registration. Early registration is encouraged to avoid class cancellations due to low enrollment. REFUND POLICY—- We are happy to refund tuition, less a $5 processing fee, when you withdraw from your class prior to the first class meeting. We understand things happen from time to time that get in the way of you attending a course in which you enrolled and planned to attend. If this is your situation, please give us a call and we will issue a credit of the tuition paid that can be applied to any course you wish to take in the future. Requests must be made by calling Community Education at 407-0140 option 3. Refunds for payments made by credit card will be processed to same card used and will take 24-48 hours. Refunds for cash and check payments will be made by check and will take 7-10 business days for processing.CANCELLATIONS—If we cancel your class, you will be offered the choice of an alternative class, holdover credit or full refund. Holdover credit can be used toward any class. Registrants will be notified by e-mail or phone if class has been canceled. Refer to “Refund Policy” above if you wish to withdraw from your class. CONFIRMATION of registrations will not be sent. You will be contacted only if a class is canceled or is already full when your registration is received.RETURNED CHECKS—A fee will be charged for each returned check.SUPPLY/FOOD FEES —Some classes have a supply fee which is payable to the instructor at the first class.
