y ALL medications must be in their original containers and must be labeled with the pharmacist’s label, showing the camper’s name and directions for use. Safety at CampAt Camp Ehawee, safety is our number one priority. Camp Staff completes a 10-day training. Staff working at the pool/slough, archery and leading trips receive additional training specific to their area. All staff are certified in a minimum of First Aid, CPR and automated external defibrillators (AED). Camp Ehawee’s Health Center is equipped with an AED, first-aid supplies and emergency equipment.

We’ll cover camp emergency procedures and hold an emergency drill within the first 24 hours of arrival. The camp has a portable weather radio located in the Camp Office. Along with utilizing the weather radio to monitor the weather, local officials and Girl Scout office staff will contact camp to inform us in the event of approaching severe weather.

For the safety of all campers, campers under 18 must travel in buddy pairs or larger groups when moving between activities or around camp at any time. Campers below the age of 12 must be with an adult at all times. Campers should not be left 1-on-1 with any adult they are not related to/attending camp with. During adult/child camp programs, adults are expected to attend all activities and meals with their camper.

For the safety and health of all campers, we do not allow smoking anywhere on camp property. If you need to smoke, ensure your camper(s) are supervised properly and then travel outside the camp gates. Alcohol and illegal drugs are expressly forbidden.

Emergency Contact Information The best way to reach us or have others reach you in an emergency back at home, is to call the office directly at 608.406.2812 and leave a message if no one answers. Messages are checked regularly throughout the day.

Arrival & Opening DayArrival:

y GPS and cellphones do not always work close to camp and there is also construction in the area this year. Please travel with a printed copy of directions (page 12) and we recommend carrying a paper map of the local area. Many travelers allow 20-30 minutes extra in drive time for stops and careful driving on country roads.

y Check in begins at 6pm and will have check-in available until 9pm. If you are running unexpectedly late, please call Camp Ehawee directly at 608.406.2812. If no one answers, please leave a message.

y On Wild Road, continue driving past the brick pillars. After you pass the house on the left, turn left to reach the parking lot and leave your bags in your car. Follow signage and staff directions for check-in.

Upon Arrival at Camp: y All campers will be checked-in at the table near/in Hope Lodge (the large red building across from the parking lot).

y Following check-in, you will be directed to their sleeping unit to settle in and unpack. Campers will need to carry luggage to the unit, You can bring wagons and sleds to help transport luggage. We also have some available at camp.

y Housing accommodations are based upon needs communicated with us in advance or through CampDoc (buddy requests). If you have a housing issue any time during the weekend please communicate with the Camp Director.

Living UnitsAvailable OptionsMost lodging at Camp Ehawee is in the form of 8-10 person wood cabins. Depending upon program enrollment and buddy requests, this can safely sleep up to 12 by adding cots. Each cabin has lights, a fan, electrical outlets, a porch, a front and back door, table and chairs, and bunk beds built into the walls. Each of the three sleeping units have a shared unit bathroom facility with flush toilets, a hand-washing sink, and a screened unit house with a fireplace. We have two ADA accessible cabins and the Nakomis bunkhouse which is also accessible.

Unit Selection & AssignmentGroups are assigned to locations based on camping experience, personal requests, and program numbers. To maximize sleeping spaces, families may be mixed according to their participation numbers. If you would like to stay with a specific group or in a specific tent or cabin unit, please notify us in advance.

Sleeping Arrangements for Me & My GuyGirls will be in a cabin. Males will be in a separate cabin in the same unit.

Living TogetherCabins are shared space and sound travels easily at camp. Please be respectful of your fellow cabin/bunk-mates and neighbors. Keep your area clean, observe “lights out” time and respectfully communicate your needs for personal space and quiet time

Woodland CrittersOne of the things we love most about camp is the woodland serenade that lulls us to sleep every night. While it is music to our ears, we recognize that some of our newer campers may not be used to the sounds of forest animals when traveling through camp in the evening and night hours when we are out and about. Adults should talk to their newer campers about what to expect at night and please don’t hesitate to ask our staff about what to expect.

Trading PostYou may want to bring spending money to purchase items available at the Trading Post. We have lots of great camp merchandise available. We accept cash, credit cards, checks and Badgerland Bucks at the Trading Post. “Council Bucks” or equivalent from other Girl Scout Councils may be used in the Trading Post with pre-camp notification so we can confirm with your council that we can accept it. Please contact us to find out if an agreement is in place if you are a Girl Scout outside of Badgerland.

The following is a list of some of the basic items carried at the Trading Post and their approximate cost. Only non-food items are available for purchase. All prices and items are approximate and subject to change.

Camp FoodMost meals are served family-style in Hope Lodge. There is a set menu for each meal offering balanced choices with a vegetarian option. A salad bar is available at lunch and dinner. (And coffee is available for adults every morning!) We are experienced at accommodating a variety of special food needs in an inclusive way. If you or your camper has specific food restrictions or allergies, please note that in the CampDoc profile. This will help us prepare appropriate meal options for everyone attending camp.

Please do not bring snacks or candy into the sleeping units. Snacks and candy attract wildlife. Our kitchen staff will provide snacks throughout the course of your time at camp. If you are hungry and there isn’t anything out, just ask one of the staff.

Help Keep Camp Ehawee GreenBe sure to pack a reusable water-bottle and/or travel mug (great for adults to use for coffee in the morning) to use while at camp. We have mixed recycle bins located in the fenced-in area behind Hope Lodge, near the road. Please take advantage of these bins!

Flag CeremonyCampers may get the chance to participate in our morning or evening flag ceremony. Up to 6 girls and adults can participate at each ceremony.

KapersGirl Scouts always leave a place better than they found it. Kapers are chores done daily at camp. Some kapers include sweeping, “hopping” tables at meals and wiping down the mattresses.

Camp Program ActivitiesThe schedule provided in this packet is subject to change. A final schedule for your group will be provided on-site. Activities may include: swimming, canoeing, archery, Trading Post, art, nature, sports, hiking, cooking, dancing, an All-Camp activity and more!

SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallit Affectionately Pinned Somewhere)SWAPS are a Girl Scout tradition. When Girl Scouts get together we often trade SWAPS when meeting a new Girl Scout friend. You can find plenty of resources and ideas just by searching online. Have fun gathering them from other families and make some of your own SWAPS to trade while you’re at camp. Campfire gatherings are great times to trade but any mealtime or activity is a good time. Bring a fun hat, sash, bag or other item to attach your SWAPS to. Remember that SWAPS should be pinned somewhere!

Cell Phones/Tech GadgetsCamp Ehawee is a great place to unplug and focus on friendship, family and community. Camp Ehawee’s location means that there is limited cellular service on site. We ask that cell phones and other technology be left in your vehicle while you are at camp. If you carry your phone for your camera or require it to be with you for a different reason, please keep it in your pocket and excuse yourself from the group if needing to text or take a call. This will keep the focus on the special people you are attending camp with.

Photos/Social MediaPlease feel comfortable sharing photos of you and your Girl Scout during the program. Be aware not to share photos on social media without permission from all girls/adults shown in the photo. The camp staff will take photos throughout the weekend and they will be posted to our Badgerland Council Smugmug page. Visit gsbadgerland.smugmug.com after the event to upload and view photos from the weekend (we’ll send the link and password) and view photos.

Closing CeremonyOn closing night you will be invited to take part in a special closing ceremony. You will receive a Camp Ehawee pin and be invited to join our camp Family of Friends. This is a solemn and meaningful tradition that has been recently adapted from our sister camp, Camp Black Hawk. The ceremony follows the closing campfire.

Camp Cleanup on Closing DayGirl Scouts always leave a place better than we found it!

y Throw away all trash and sweep out cabins and unit house floors. Don’t forget to check under your beds and around the outside of the cabin.

y Tidy up bathrooms and sinks and look for trash in common areas of the unit. y Help tidy up the Lodge, Lodge Porch, Shower House and other common areas in Main Camp. y Please report any property issues with our staff before you depart.
