METHODOLOGY

The Top 500 ICT Companies Research was conducted for the 20th time this year. After the ICT 500 ranking, we evaluated the companies in 8 categories.

These categories also have sub-tables for “Hardware”, “Software” and “Service”.

The research will feature the best performing company of the last 3 years, which is an original ranking, as it does every year. In making this assessment, we take the fact that the ranking and revenues of the company have continuously increased in the last 3 years and that they grow as much or above the total IT market as the basis.

The Top 500 ICT Companies research is not a market report. It cannot be considered as an indicator for market shares of companies. Market data is prepared separately based on this research. The Top 500 ICT Companies research is the ranking of sales revenues. Only the companies that provide data for this research are listed in the ranking.

The ranking of the Top 500 ICT Companies will be based on the net sales revenues of the companies as in previous years. In order to determine the net sales revenue of the companies, we request the balance sheet of companies, profit and loss account statement and 12-month VAT declaration as every year. The ranking will be based on Turkish Lira revenues and FOB sales revenues of companies selling FOB (sales through invoice) will be deducted from the commissions they receive and added to net sales revenues. The average dollar rate to be used for 2018 for companies that will declare their income in dollars was determined as 4.82 TL. Companies that are open to or will be open to the stock exchange are obliged to provide data in accordance with the criteria accepted by the Capital Markets Board (SPK).

Turkey was introduced with the first computer in 1960s. This first computer, which was established in the General Directorate of Highways, was followed by a few mainframes, which were also established in some public and private institutions. Our country was introduced to personal computers that emerged in the early 1980s, but the rate of computerization remained low. 1990 was the first breaking point. During this period, many international companies have started to open their offices in Turkey. The newly established domestic companies started to develop software on different subjects, especially accounting. Following the announcement of the Windows 95 operating system, with the acceptance of client - server architecture, PCs and servers started to replace mainframes. ERP companies launched offices in Turkey and made efforts to reach SMEs; the domestic accounting firms began leaning towards ERP, improving their products. With the expansion of the internet and GSM operators, the mobility became widespread, but we could not catch the computerization rates of developed countries. While developing new software in many areas, we were unable to export these products with some exceptions.

BThaber, which started its publication in January 1995, has been encouraging to increase the computerization rates in our country and to sell our products abroad in all processes up to now. BThaber made efforts for the development of our sector. One of these studies was the ICT 500 Research and Publication. We knew that you cannot grow an immeasurable value. As the 20th being realized this year, the ICT 500 Research held a mirror to the sector and became the sole reference source. We know that the research has been effective in many mergers and acquisitions. Companies had the opportunity to see and evaluate the positions of both themselves and their competitors. In the meantime, the ICT 500 Research has continuously improved itself. It expanded its vision to the sector with new categories emerging with new technologies. Of course, this development is reflected in the publication you are reading now. When the research is done, the whole sector comes together for the ICT 500 Award Ceremony and crown this significant study.

We have come a long way in terms of technology development, software and exporting in recent years, but we have a long way to go as well both as a country and a sector. In this way, as BThaber, M2S and ICT Summit under BThaber Corporate Group, we will continue to be the companion of the sector.

HARDWAREServers: Middle- and large-sized computers designed to govern the data storage and communication of computers connected to itself within a network (thin client and dumb terminal included). Servers can also offer any application software they host to users via satellite computers.

Desktop computers and OEM products: Desktop computers with a central processing unit, HDD, monitor, and keyboard, as well as individual separately sold components such as memory, processors, cases, monitors, keyboards, mousses, graphic cards, and I/O cards.

Tablets and portable computers: Tablets and portable computers with a central processing unit, main memory, monitor, and keyboard.

Printing Systems: Dot matrix, inkjet or laser printing, 3D printer, barcode printer, photocopy machines and multifunctional printing systems and scanners.

Data backup and storage hardware: Hardware products used for data backup.

Network hardware: Equipment used in local area and remote area networks, such as bridges, hubs, routers, switches, cables and cabling equipment etc.; modems, access devices and interface units using in wire, wireless, optical and other transmission media as guides within local area and remote area networks.

Security Camera Hardware: Equipment such as CCTV, IP camera.

Information Security Hardware: Network security hardware.

POS Systems: Point-of-sale payment systems and customer-installed bank terminals.

Data acquisition (OT/VT) Hardware: Smart card reader, magnetic card reader, RFID reader, barcode reader, optical reader and their portable terminals.

Image and Audio systems: Any display and acoustic transducers used to transmit image and audio data to users, as well as readers used to read recorded data and transmit them to these transducers (plasma displays, DVD and VCD players, LED or fluorescent LCD displays, full LED or OLED and CRT displays).

Telecommunication infrastructure equipment: Any active and passive infrastructure equipment used in the construction of telecommunication networks outside any premises.

PBX switchboards: Corporate telephone switchboards are called PBX. It includes systems that switch internal calls, as well as incoming and outgoing calls. To consider a device a switchboard, it should start up by circuit switching.

Mobile phone: Any cellular or unicellular mobile phones and accessories.

Various Hardware: Fax equipment, kiosk, ATM, digital cameras, fixed telephone plotter and IoT equipment.

Uninterruptible power supply: It includes devices that protect electronic devices against adverse network conditions and enable systems to operate by providing energy during power outages.

Consumables: Income from products such as cartridge, toner, diskette, CD and so on.

SOFTWAREOperating System: Any operating system running on single user systems or networks.

Office Software: Application software that runs on the operating system and is intended to meet the basic operating needs of the user.

Security Software: All security and encryption software products, as well as biometrics software, to secure networks and Internet based computing and protect systems.

Document/Archive Management Software: Software for archiving and managing documents developed or sold as a package.

Sectoral Software: Application software developed for sectors such as finance, production, tourism, health and so on and sold as a package.

Geographic Information Systems Software: Software products that perform the functions of collecting, storing, processing and presenting graphical and non-graphical data obtained by location based observations in integrity.

CRM software: Customer relationship management software developed or sold as a package.

ERP software: Enterprise resource planning software developed or sold as a package.

As for 20 years, the ICT 500 Research has been completed this year. The former name of the research, ICT 100, has been changed to ICT 500 with the growth of the sector in 2000 and since then it has been serving as an important and unique research of our sector with increasing interest and appreciation.This year, with 15 members of the advisory board, the opinions of the sector and the advisory board members were taken, the ideas were discussed one by one and a new research was conducted.

The implemented recommendations are mentioned below:

• Companies wanted to be ranked among themselves only as distributors, manufacturers and integrators. In this new research, all categories were listed in separate categories such as distributors, manufacturer based in Turkey, foreign manufacturers, system integrators and business partners.

• Anatolian companies with low turnover wanted to appear in the categories. We also made rankings on the basis of cities.

• It was asked to emphasize value added services instead of box sales. The tables continued in detail, but the awards focused on value added services.

• New technology categories such as AI and IoT were requested and these were added gladly.

• New initiatives were also asked to be supported. They took their place in the categories.

Last but not least;

• The ceremony, which was enlivened with a guitar performance last year, was held with a new concept in a historical cinema with many innovations.

• As a result of the research, the catalog was distributed to those attending the ceremony free of charge as it is done every year.

• For the first time this year, a Presidential Representative participated to our event thanks to our intensive efforts.

What is already planned for the next year?

The ICT 500 Research was completed with a study of 7 months, a team of 20 people, an Advisory Board of 15 people and the support of the sector. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions.

ICT 500 Research grows in parallel with the development of technology

The categories were launched when sufficient applications were provided and the categories that you think were missing here were not able to be launched for this reason. I kindly ask you to give us your opinion on this subject and any other in regard to the research as a whole.This study meets an important need of the sector and it is the duty of the sector and sector NGOs to work for increasing the participation. We strongly desire their support.

In 2018, the total turnover of companies in the ICT 500 ranking increased by 12% in terms of Turkish Lira compared to 2017. In terms of TL, the highest growth rate was 317% and the number of companies growing over 100% was 28. We find it remarkable that a significant proportion of companies with high growth rates sell software and/or services. There are also 66 new companies in the ranking.

In 2018, 67% of companies’ revenues increased in Turkish Lira basis. The average growth in TL terms was 41%. The average growth in dollar terms was 30%, but the rate of growth in dollar terms was limited to only 28%. While 88 companies’ revenues decreased, the highest contraction was 89%.

As you can see, there is a long way to go, but measuring the path we take is just as important.Have a safe day.

With the high vision of our President, we strive to make our country one of the leading countries in the world. In order to achieve this goal, our government always leaps forward. The number of GSM subscribers, which was 28 million in 2003, exceeded 80 million today. We accelerated the internet access. We did not have broadband access, now we have around 74 million subscribers. We started R&D support in the information and communication sector. We started the e-Government application. Today, 42.5 million users receive 4,785 services from 591 organizations. The project works of Türksat 5A and 5B Satellites, which we started to produce in our satellite communication activities in November 2017, are progressing in accordance with the launch of Türksat 5A in 2020 and Türksat 5B in 2021. With Türksat 5A and 5B, we will be among the top 5 countries using the new Ku-Band frequency.

We conducted the Critical Design Review Phase meetings at Türksat 6A, the first domestic communication satellite, which was launched at the Space Systems Integration and Testing Center (USET). We plan to complete the project that will enable our country to be among the 10 countries that can produce communication satellites in 2020 and to send it into space in 2021. We established the KamuNet infrastructure in order to provide more secure data traffic between public institutions. We also started efforts to strengthen KamuNet with the crypto system.

Thanks to what I told a small part of and implemented in only 16 years, our communication infrastructure is no longer a network where only people connect. Citizens are now demanding many services, such as smart homes, driverless vehicles, smart transport, the internet of things and industry 4.0. Smart networks of things such as things, buildings and roads have started to be established. However, we believe this as the Ministry; no matter what technology is waiting for us, we cannot have the chance to use these technologies and offer them to the service of our citizens unless high quality communication infrastructure is provided. Therefore, in order to reach the targets we have set, we need to implement measures that will accelerate new infrastructures without any delay. In order to achieve this aim, we paved the way for solving the problems faced by the sector. We still continue to do so. We strive to provide a quality service environment for our citizens in free competition.

We are also rapidly taking steps to accelerate our infrastructure and ensure the establishment of national infrastructure. However if you ask me if it is enough, I would say it is not enough. Because these developments are just the beginning, a much greater change awaits us. Digital technologies have revealed two rare developments in human history. The first is the emergence of artificial intelligence and the other is the connection of the whole world with a digital network. The emergence of just one of these would not affect our growth expectations in such a radical way, but the combination of these two elements has been the most important development since the industrial revolution, which completely changed the way we do physical business.

The most important issue for the Turkish IT sector is to produce qualified products and services by following these technological developments very closely in such a period when digital technologies

Our future is based on national production

have started to transform even the so-called unchanging values and to be able to come to the point where they can market them to the whole world. Therefore, we attach great importance to national and local production. We also carry out our future oriented activities as a national production center. Likewise, in 2019, we will continue to support our investments, legal infrastructure works and especially in the development of domestic infrastructure. In 2019, we will intensively use our local base station ULAK in commercial mobile networks. We are continuing to work intensively this year for 5G, which will be in service in the 2020s with a national infrastructure. Within the scope of 5G Valley Open Test Site Project, we established the test network infrastructures where 5G and Beyond technologies and applications to be developed with local and national facilities can be tested. Within the scope of domestic and national production activities, we initiated the “End to End Local and National 5G Project” with the support of BTK.

Within the scope of the project, production of software and hardware products that are used extensively in electronic communication networks such as Radyolink, antenna, base station and cyber security software will be started in 2019. We will complete the National Public Integrated Data Center Feasibility Study later this year. The instant messaging platform was made available to some public institutions. We will expand it in 2019. With the National Electronic Notification Project, we will also start sending notifications through this system in 2019. We will also implement the National Smart Transportation Systems Strategy Document and Action Plan again this year. We have brought back the materials produced in our country to our country by completing 397 days open space environment tests at the International Space Station. In short, in 2019, we will continue to develop domestic and national products in line with our targets.

In the global economic structure, unique priorities and problems of each region naturally determine preferences in IT spending. The issues of whether the USA economy is warming or not, the political agenda in the leading countries in the European economy and the Brexit process bring about a limited course in all IT spending and investments naturally. In spite of all these factors, spending is dominated by IT investments in the USA with

the effort to balance the economy before the 2020 Presidential elections. In the USA, which is the center of cloud computing, software, development in the title of software through “… as a service” examples will be at the forefront according to Gartner estimates. After a calm rise in 2019 compared to 2018, it will be no surprise that global IT spending will reach 4,000 billion USD in 2020.

According to Gartner expectations, IT spending expectation of 1,126 billion USD in 2018 may exceed 1,100 billion USD in 2019, approaching 1,140 billion USD in 2020. The agenda of the EMEA region, which brings together countries with very

different political and economic agendas, deals with the titles from European Union (EU) countries and the everlasting tension of the Middle East. All this indicates a limited improvement in IT investments, regardless of Europe and the Middle East.

Fluctuating results emerging in the macro economy due to the local election agenda and exchange rate movements revealed a significant postponing in IT spending in Turkey compared to 2018 and according to the 2019 Gartner expectation. The real sector, which has a debt burden, is expected to have a cautious

rise in 2020, at 13,354 billion USD, while the 2019 IT spending expectation is expected to be around 13,300 billion USD.Expectations of IT spending in 2018, which approached 14,300 billion USD, is likely to improve again in 2020 and the following years.

According to the Informatics Industrialists Association (TÜBİSAD)’s “Information and Communication Technology Sector Market Data” of 2018, the sector reached 131.7 billion TL with 15% growth in terms of TL. On the USD basis, there was a 13% contraction in the sector.

Turkish IT sector size in 2018 was stated as:

• Total sector size of information and communication technologies reached 131.7 billion TL in 2018 with a growth rate of 15% in TL. When evaluated in terms of USD, the sector size which was in the levels of 30-33 billion USD in previous years, decreased to 27-30 billion levels in 2018 due to the exchange rate effect.

• Information technologies, one of the two main factors constituting the total sector size, reached 44.7 billion TL in 2018 with a growth of 15.2% in TL terms, while communication technologies increased to 86.9 billion TL with a growth of 14.9%.

The sub-categories of the information technology sector, which reached 44.7 billion TL in 2018:• Information Technology Hardware: 17.1 billion TL• Information Technology Software: 18.3 billion TL• Information Technology Services: 9.4 billion TL

In 2018, the communication technologies sector reached 86.9 billion TL. The distribution of sub-categories:• Communication Technologies Hardware: 27.9 billion TL• Communication Technologies Electronic Communication: 59 billion TL.

While the export performance of the sector was 4,916 billion TL with 14% growth in TL terms, there was a decrease in USD basis in 2018 due to the depreciation of the lira in the average of 32%.TÜBİSAD’s “Information and Communication Technology Sector Market Data of 2018” Report included IT companies’ expectations and foresights. According to the report, the company representatives listed the technological areas that will have an impact on the sector in the following 5 years:Artificial intelligence, cloud technology, analytics/big data, Industry 4.0, cyber security, emerging technologies (3D printers, virtual reality etc.), Blockchain, modernization of existing systems.

New fractions, new tablesSome innovations took place in the ICT 500 Research, as every year. In many sub-category titles, new fractions such as “Distributor”, “System Integrator and Business Partner”, “Turkey Based Manufacturer” and “International Representative” emerged.

While 16 firms providing data to the Network Hardware - Distributor category generated a total of 313 million 121 thousand TL, Penta Technology took the first place in this category.After Penta Technology, which generated 114 million 195 thousand TL revenue, Brightstar ranked second with 30 million 539 thousand TL income. Interkom and Vitel, which declared very close income, shared third and fourth places with revenues exceeding 21 million TL.

Netaş maintains its leadershipA total of 64 system integrator companies provided data to the Network Hardware revenue table. Total revenue is 988 million 909 thousand TL. In this title, Netaş ranked first with 289 million 698 thousand TL income. Innova’s income of 129 million 413 thousand TL took the second place in this table. Netaş and Innova also shared the first two places in the previous year’s table, where no sub-fractures were taken into consideration.

Leader Xerox’s revenue declined A total of 11 companies provided data to the Printing Systems title as International Representatives. The total income of these 11 companies was 238 million 652 thousand TL. Xerox was the leader of this title, ranking first in the table covering all groups in the previous year. Although Xerox maintains its leadership in this area, there is a significant decline in revenue. Xerox’s revenue decreased from approximately 110 million TL to 86 million 335 thousand TL. Kyocera Bilgitaş ranked second in this title and its income was 65 million 790 thousand TL.

Company revenues made no progress A total of 10 distributor companies provided data to the printing revenues title. Total income of these 10 companies was 136 million 836 thousand TL. Penta Technology took first place with 67 million 175 thousand TL. Penta Technology took the third place in the table of the previous year without the fractions. In the Printing Revenues Distributor category, Dev Bilişim ranked second with 29 million 428 thousand TL, while Art Sistem ranked third with revenues exceeding 12 million TL. When we look at the printing system revenues of the companies in this table in the previous year, we see that the revenues have not increased, on the contrary, the revenues of some companies have decreased.

Printing systems integrator BNK Technology46 companies providing data to the Printing Systems title as system integrators and business partners have a total of 107 million TL revenues. In this title, BNK Technology ranked first with 17 million 108 thousand TL. Çözüm Ofis ranked second with 15 million 839 thousand TL income and Artı ve Artı Teknoloji, which has 10 million 941 thousand TL income, took the third place.
