Symmetry & Gradation In this brief we were giv-en two words to create something - whether if it relates to product, decor, interiors and etc..

This is my research pro-cess to this with what I thought when I got my two words. I looked into Georgian houses and M.C. Esher as they have both form of symmetry and gradation with change in shape and colour with M.C.EsherI did a couple of mood-boards of Gradation & Symmetry of what I thought symbolises Sym-metry & Gradation.

After meeting as a group we came up with a box within a box to make a big box.

We all set different tasks and mine was block and ombre gradation in two boxes.Model - MDFMy Equipment - Acrylic Paint

Block gradation with blue tints - I decided to have this as a simple colour as it contrasts with my oth-er box as well as contrast with everyone elses box as everyone’si s more chaotic and I wanted something a bit calmer to show that gra-dation can be relaxed as well.

Box 2This was my ombre box, I decided to use two different colours and blend them to-gether original two examples below, I did like these tester’s because it shows off how well they contrast with one another.

I then did a rainbow ombre style on scrap wood materi-al - I thought this would be good practice for our actually model so I have a general idea of how much coat of paint I need to do - I prefer the red/orange/yellow tones than the blue/green even though I do like both. I think the red one would contrast with the Block Gradation bet-ter.

TWISTING THE BRANDIn this I was given a brand and an Interior Design Sector - I got MUJI and Leisure & Hospitality.

When I got this I automatically wanted to do a MUJI Hotel Spa - Hotels are quite minimalistic as they have what they need and Spa’s they bring some of the outside in and good health care which is what MUJI repre-sents they have good products, they are minimalists, more neu-tral tones.

This location was chosen, because I felt like this space inside and out fitted my brief perfectly.

Part of this assignment was to create stairs on 3ds max and either a model of it in this software oe Sketchup.

Sauna, Swimming Pool, Cafe, Bedrooms.

SKETCHES AND IDEASIn this bit it will have a few drawing ideas and sketches or drawings I have done for my Muji Inspired Hotel Spa.

My hotel spa will have something for every-one, in the ground floor they have “The Mas-sage Rooms” - “The Cafe” and “Lounge” Area this is to welcome the guests with a relaxed vibe. In the first floor it will have the first lot of minimalistic rooms with also a studio to the left which will have yoga or some form of ex-ercising classes.

In this are it will have:- The Colour Schemes- The Lighting- The Materiaks - The Decor

This lighting to the left is more for the hotel rooms or spa areas to give it more a re-laxed feeling and not to much with the eyes.

The Light up above is for every hotel room to give another option as well as hallways and the reception area.

Colour SchemeMaterials Scheme

The Colour Scheme is based of MUJI has they do not really use much of col-our as they are quite basic and sophisticated colours.

I will be using all natural materials - Wood Flooring to bring the outside in feel with lighter walls - Tile in the en-suites...and Crystal or Flower walls to make it look unique and different to most area.

Floorplans on Vector-works - I write notes on the side to explain more about my floorplan so it is more understandable.

Lighting & The 5 SensesIn our research even though I was in Bedworth and Yiannis was in Hong Kong and we both came up with similar ideas - we came up with wanting the area for all individuals to come to this area as Coventry is a very inter-national city. We had a general idea we want-ed the trees to link in with the pavilion but we were just creating ideas on how to do this...with the senses I wanted to link in touch with this because I thought in-dividuals when they touch the interior of the pavilions and we would want it to change colours and change the effect of the mood/interior.

This location is behind the Glass Box Gallery in Coventry, we decided this place because width, length and height wise it was more spacious and we could do more with this area than any other area. Thia area has not been well-looked after, it has just been left with moss, leaves everywhere and just untidy - we wanted to create something that was bold, but something that everyone who lives in the city can go just to look up and with each colour everyone will have a different opin-ion of how it would make them feel.

Me and Yiannis when we first met up we were draw-ing ideas our first thought was branches to link with the trees and we thought about different colours and shapes of how we would create that, however we thought it was too similar to trees and more obvious - whereas we did not want to make it obvious.

Then we went on to think about abstract sqaures to kind of make the top of a tree without it being to obvious and with multi-colours but then we thought this maybe a better idea for a lighting inside a pavilion.

We went with this because it is not obvious that it is going of from a tree shape and other individuals have other ideas of what it looks like to them.

We then decided the interior would be more abstract and the exterior be a lot smoothier.

I made a sketch mod-el/rough idea using different coloured wire, it was very thin wire which was occassion-aly difficult to use - so yiannis will not be using this material to make the final model.

STILL LIFEMy first day at University asked us to take a still life image nd hand it in 2 days later, I took a few photos in this time of different things that is important to me or looked at my old photos.The biggest picture is the one I submitted.

MODEL TECHNIQUESThe first few weeks at university we did different styles of models to pre-pare us for future projects and can use any one of these styles.
