Why choose the Y for your child’s summer?

Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).

Our focus is on three of the critical dimensions of children’s well-being: achievement, belonging and developing relationships.

We are experts at providing camping experiences that meet the needs of children and their parents. Our staffing, instruction and programs are built around the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Summer day camps are safe, convenient, affordable and fun!

WELCOME TO YMCA CAMPS AND ACTIVITIES AND YOUR

Safe• Staff-to-child ratios to ensure

quality – 1:6 for children 3-5 years old, 1:8 for children age 6-8, and 1:10 for children age 9-14

• Qualified counselors receive 40+ hours of training

• All staff must be at least 16 years old, and 80% of staff at each site must be 18 or older

• All staff are certified in CPR/ AED and First Aid

• Many camps offer swim instruction

Summer day camps at the Y give kids the opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends and have the time of their lives. Sign up for one week or the entire summer – the choice is yours!

Themes Each week, campers attending Y Day Camp Adventures will experience the many activities and adventures offered at Y Camp and Howry Acres in Boone, including swim instruction and free swim daily, outdoor exploration, canoeing, fishing, archery, arts & crafts and the climbing wall.

Specialty Camps — Walnut Creek Family YMCA Specialty Camps provide the opportunity for campers to explore specific topics and areas of interest. Most specialty camps focus on their specialty for half the day and participate in traditional camp activities for the other half. Half-day Preschool Camps create an atmosphere of fun and learning for our littlest campers. Weekly themes guide activities in both small- and large-group settings, with an emphasis on providing opportunities for children to grow intellectually, socially and emotionally. July 9-13 – Pint-Sized Picassos We will use different techniques, styles and mediums to create great works of art.

July 16-20 – Fairytale Fun (Walnut Creek only) All your favorite characters are here for stories, role-

playing and fantasy fun!July 23-27 – Tiny Tinkerers

It’s an engineering-themed week! Design, build, knock it down – we will do it all this week.

July 30-August 3 – Superheroes Come dressed as your favorite superheroes and meet real-life heroes in our community.

August 6-10 – Ocean Wonders Wet and wild fun for everyone as we learn about creatures from the deep blue sea.

YMCA Sports Clinics are geared toward helping young athletes of all ability levels develop a wide range of skills in specific sports. Every clinic program is based on the Y’s core values: Caring, Honest, Respect and Responsibility. Participants learn the importance of teamwork, fair play, and most of all – having fun! These clinics, open to both boys and girls, are a great lead-in to participating in league sports at the Y. Registration for 2018 summer camps, programs and activities opens January 2, 2018.

To register your child for the Best Summer Ever at the Y, download the Registration Packet online, or pick up a Registration Packet at any of these YMCA of greater Des Moines branches

The Registration Packet includes the following forms

• Registration Form • Camp Registration Grid • Emergency Information and Authorizations• Health Information Form• Camper Connection Form• Auto Pay Form

Complete all forms in the packet and return them to your primary YmCa day Camp branch.

A deposit of $20 per camp, per week, must accompany your registration. For example, If you are registering for a half-day sports clinic and traditional day camp in the same week, a deposit is required for each camp. Deposits can be charged to your debit or credit card or paid with cash or check. The balance due for each week of camp will be charged to your credit or debit card via our Auto Pay feature on the Thursday prior to the beginning of each camp week.

SPECIAL OFFER: Register by March 19 and pay only a $10/week deposit to reserve your spot! T-Shirts Campers attending Traditional Day Camp or Specialty Camp will be required to order a t-shirt to wear on field trips. The cost is $10. See the Registration Packet for details.

Multi-Child DiscountThe Multi-Child Discount applies to families with more than one child registered for a week of full-day camp. The children don’t have to be attending the same camp, but they must attend the same week. It does not apply to children registered for different weeks, half day summer camps, enrichment programs, or clinics. *Both multi child and financial assistance may not apply.
