A message from Mr Leary…
Last week it was an absolute pleasure to take our Stage
2/3 students on their annual excursion, accompanied by
staff and students from Illabo PS. The students were
wonderful representatives for their respective school
communities, displaying outstanding behaviour at all
times. They were polite, courteous, respectful and well-
mannered throughout the trip. All students are to be
congratulated on their conduct and participation in the
range of stimulating and engaging activities presented.
A huge thank you to Mrs Holden and Mrs Ryan for their
organisation of this excursion. An incredible amount of
effort and hard work occurs, particularly in the lead up
to an excursion, to ensure that everything runs
smoothly. The activities/attractions we visited engaged
and provided all students with educational and cultural
experiences that can only be gained outside the walls of
the classroom. Mrs Holden and Mrs Ryan ensured that
the accommodation and meals throughout the
excursion were exceptional. Thanks also to Miss Guthrie
and Mr Steward for their assistance. To attend an
excursion with such dedicated and professional staff
was a privilege.
Some of the highlights, amongst many, were visits to the
Indonesian Embassy, CSIRO Discovery, Mt. Stromlo
Observatory and the twilight tour of the Botanical
Gardens.

Australian War Memorial
Planning has already commenced for the 2019 school
camp. We have made a booking at Jindabyne SRC for
Term 4, Week 5, November 11-15.
Our K-2 students will embark on their extra-curricular
excursions in the coming weeks. Today they ventured
to the Junee Chocolate and Licorice Factory to study
local history and food processing. Next week they will
travel to Wagga to celebrate a year of learning at Noah’s
Ark and the movies. The students have had a superb
year and they certainly deserve these special excursions.
Thanks to Miss Breen for organising these experiences
for the students.
We attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony at
Bethungra at the invitation of the local community. We
joined with students and staff from Nangus PS to pay
our respects. The students were treated to a light lunch
and a tour of a local historical museum. Thank you to
those parents who assisted with travel.
We are moving very quickly towards the end of the year
and the many activities that come with this time of the
school calendar. The students will continue to work hard
and prepare for 2019 and enjoy the various activities
along the way. We look forward to seeing you all at our
end of year activities and celebrations.

All students have completed and will receive their
Premier’s Sporting Challenge certificates next week.
Samuel and Fletcher are to be commended for their
outstanding leadership throughout this program,
leading the students
through a variety of
activities each week to
develop fundamental
movement skills and
physical fitness. EPS
received a Gold Award
for our participation in
this year’s challenge.

On Friday 14 December, all students will participate in a
cricket clinic at school. The clinic is being coordinated
by Luke Olsen and will be in our usual morning PE
timeslot. We are being provided with this opportunity
due to the cancellation of the Junee T20 Blast.
Mr Leary will attend the Cootamundra Zone AGM and
Term 4 meeting today. Calendar dates for 2019 will be
confirmed for all carnivals and sports selection trials.

School Improvements
Our shed project is almost a reality with approval
submitted to Asset Management this week. The new
shed will be a reverse mirror image of our existing sports
shed and will become a home for teaching resources,
GA and cleaning equipment. This will enable staff to
convert the sports shed into a classroom that will be
utilised for small group, art/craft and technology
activities. The room will also be utilised for school and
community meetings.
We have been extremely fortunate to receive a
community donation to complete this project. We thank
Newmont Mining and Gilmore Metals for their
donation.
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)
Students from our school have recently undertaken, an
education tour of the national capital. Students were
given the opportunity to participate in a variety of
educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history,
culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance
of all young Australians being able to visit the national
capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion
the Australian Government is contributing funding of
$20 per student under the Parliament and Civics
Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly
to the school upon completion of the excursion.
