CONNECT: Small group experience
Connect with others. Connect with Christ. Connect Christ with all the parts of your life.
The goal of “Connect - Small Groups” is to create insightful, relevant content that can be put to use in your
personal faith journey. If you are a practicing Catholic — or aspire to be — then you are encouraged to join
one of our Small Groups. You’ll have more confidence in your faith so you can feel more comfortable and
more comfortably share that faith with others.
Offerings for the final session of the 2018-2019 Small Groups experience are being prepared. Several
groups will continue with the popular lectio divina of the upcoming Sunday’s Gospel reading. Don’t let the
Latin scare you away from learning to do it yourself. Each of the steps in lectio divina form a process by
which we encounter God in his sacred word and respond to his grace. Also returning is the Beloved
program for married couples. This study is for every married couple, whether your marriage is great, good,
not so good, old or new or somewhere in between. This is a repeat of the popular Beloved program first
offered in the January session. Part two of the Beloved will be offered in the Fall session.
Two groups invite young children to attend for playtime. One group will continue looking at the lives of
saints and how those saints can encourage us today in the trials we face. The second group will be reading
and reflecting on Searching for and Maintaining Peace: A Small Treatise on Peace of Heart by Father
Jacques Philippe - What must we do to overcome the moments of fear and distress which beset us and how
can we learn to place all our confidence in God and abandon ourselves into his loving care? Another group
will resume their reflection upon Living the Integrated Christian Life by delving into Catholic social teaching
and a survey of the common prayers we’ve used since we first learned to pray.
“Connect - Small Groups” offer extraordinary opportunities to explore spirituality, and in small communities
within our larger community, offer opportunities to listen to and encourage one another. The atmosphere is
prayerful, respectful and confidential. Please consider joining a Small Group this session. The session will
be under way the week of April 28. Watch the bulletin, register at the Welcome Center, or register online for
a Small Group that will nurture your faith. Paper registrations are available at the Welcome Center in the
Gathering area or use the following QR code with your phone to open the online registration:

Holy Land Collection
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the
Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians
in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church
minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools, offer
religious education, preserve sacred shrines and provide
humanitarian aid to refugees.
For more information about Christians in the Holy Land,
visit www.myfranciscan.org/good-friday.
Parishioners Invited to Pentecost Play
We invite parishioners to attend our fourth
graders’ presentation of the Pentecost play on
April 29 and 30 at 6:45 p.m. each night. Our
fourth graders will set your hearts on fire and
send you out to evangelize. Please join us. It’ll
only cost you your time and your support will
mean a lot to our students.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth
your Spirit and we shall be created, and You shall
renew the face of the earth.
Amen.
A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP PEREZ
Beginning the Sunday after Easter, all parishes
will be adopting the proper posture during the
Communion Rite at Mass to reflect the teaching
in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal
(2003).
We are to remain standing after the Lamb of God
and throughout the singing of the Communion
hymn, until the end of the distribution of Holy
Communion.
Once the last person has received Holy
Communion and the Communion hymn ends,
we should sit (or kneel) for a period of
private prayer.
There is a promise of marriage between:

Putters and Helpers Needed
Children will have a chance to try for a hole in one
while helping students in El Salvador. After Masses on
May 11 and 12, kids can try their hand at putting for
25 cents a ball. A hole in one wins $50!
Proceeds will go toward the “Fore” the Kids Golf
Outing, which raises money for scholarships for
students in El Salvador.
There will be four separate areas for age groups
ranging from toddlers to age 14, and we’re looking for
16 eighth graders per Mass to help with the putting
games after each Mass. Eighth graders will receive an
email with a signup for this event.
First Grade Orientation Dinner
Children who will be in first grade this fall are invited
to an orientation dinner on May 7 at 6 p.m. in the
Gathering Area. This fun evening will introduce
parents to HMKids and preparing for
First Communion. If you haven’t signed up yet,
please call HMKids HQ at the number above.
May Crowning Coming Up
Students in grades 1-6 should be receiving a signup
to be prayer leaders for the May Crowning on May 6.
Second graders will lead the procession to the
Pavilion, weather permitting.
A Note to Our Prayer Partners
With the many distractions in young families’
lives, we ask our Prayer Partners to pray that
First Communicants’ families may keep their
focus on this important spiritual milestone
coming up. Second graders will celebrate Jesus
Day on April 8 and 9. We pray that they will use
the nine-day novena they were given for the days
leading up to their First Communion this month.
We Listen
This week, the young people of the parish who are
preparing for Eucharist reflected on listening to the
word of God. God’s presence with us is manifested
in the gift of the Scriptures, God’s own word to us.
How do we as a parish listen attentively to the word
of God and allow the Spirit of love to transform our
hearts and our minds—our very lives?
