Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Glen CorteseAs Buffalo’s cultural Ambassador the Grammy Award-winning Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra opens the Friends of Good Music season for the Quick Center’s 25th Anniversary. Assistant Conductor Glen Cortese will lead the string orchestra of the BPO in popular audience favorites including Tchaikovsky’s famous Serenade in C, opus 48 and works by Grieg, Holst, Respighi and Dag Wirén. The acclaimed sound of the BPO guarantees a distinguished start for the new season.

The Art of the Accordion: Julien Labro The Accordion and Bandoneon Virtuoso Julien Labro presents an insightful evening into the “Art of the Accordion,” from Johann Sebastian Bach to French Chansons to Argentinian Tangos by Astor Piazzola. Labro’s musical journey has taken him all across North America, Europe, the Middle East and South America. He has collaborated with numerous symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, and he will appear as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra later this season.

Duo Recital: Barbara Luisi, violin and Alessandro Taverna, piano The duo of Violinist Barbara Luisi and the highly praised Venetian Pianist Alessandro Taverna is exploring the repertoire of favorite short pieces of music by famous composers. 2019/2020 PERFORMANCES

Duo Jalal viola—percussionLike the marriage between Kathryn Lockwood and Yousif Sheronick, their music represents an organic amalgam of cultural traditions and musical styles. Audiences are enthralled as a classically trained violist from Australia ignites her instrument with passion - one minute embodying a medieval rebec, the next

a Shakuhachi ( Japanese flute). Yousif, of Lebanese descent, dazzles as he manipulates sound by simply snapping his fingers at the edge of an Egyptian frame drum.

“Christmas A Cappella” Calmus—Vocal Ensemble from Germany A perfect blend of sound, precision, lightness and wit, these five Leipzig musicians have won a whole string of international prizes and competitions, including the ECHO Klassik and Supersonic Award, and the reach of their activities is constantly expanding, taking them throughout Europe as well as to North and South America. In 2010, the quintet made its debut at Carnegie Hall, New York followed by their first appearance in our performance series. To complement their return, the Quick Center will show an exhibition of the immortal song “Silent Night.”

Slavic Soul PartyFiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, and virtuoso jazz chops make Slavic Soul Party! NYC’s official #1 brass band for BalkanSoul GypsyFunk. Over the past 15 years the band has released 7 full-length albums, and toured in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Turkey, and Zimbabwe, from pasha’s palaces to dive bars, Carnegie Hall to Serbian schoolyards. Their Tuesday night residency in Park Slope, Brooklyn has become a destination for music fans from around the world.
