AMY BROWN Director of Learning and Development I have never done anything the traditional way. Nineteen years ago, with just an associate’s degree in biology, I took a job as a safety trainer, traveling all over the United States auditing OSHA and DOT compliance and (with little experience) providing safety training to a variety of associates. I learned that when done correctly, we can develop and influence associates in a way that

engages and transforms them, so they can be successful both personally and professionally. Seeking to find the “right way” of associate development, I moved into a corporate trainer role, then a project training lead, instructional designer, and trainee program manager. I now manage the L&D strategy at USLBM. I have lived in Virginia, London, Colorado, and Charleston, SC. Working in different industries and across national lines helps me emphasize the importance of culture on people and organizations. Just before leaving Colorado I achieved my SPHR certification, and most recently I completed my Green Belt. In my spare time I am fixing up an old Charleston single house with my fur kid, Scarlett. I’m still not sure if I’ve stumbled upon the exact “right way,” but I think I’ve found some pieces of the puzzle and continue to look for more.

BETH LEÓN Director of the Audit, Inspection, and Evaluation Academy Beth León joined the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) in June 2011 as the first director of the Audit, Inspection, and Evaluation Academy within the Training Institute. She manages the development, implementation, and administration of learning and professional development efforts for the audit and inspection and evaluation communities within CIGIE. She

collaborates closely with internal and external CIGIE colleagues and stakeholders to support a variety of community-wide learning activities and programs. Prior to CIGIE, she worked at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) auditing federal programs, including those that addressed arms control and nonproliferation issues. She also served as an active member of the GAO's adjunct faculty, primarily teaching new auditors. While detailed to GAO's Learning Center she managed a variety of training programs and implemented a comprehensive training curriculum for new hires. Once permanently transferred to the Learning Center, she served as the director of adjunct faculty and strategic learning programs and helped coordinate, design, and deliver auditor learning programs as well as recruit, train, and coordinate the activities of several hundred adjunct faculty members involved in the design and delivery of curricula. For her service to GAO, she received various recognitions including customer service, meritorious service, and managing director's awards. Beth received a master's degree in public and international affairs and a bachelors' degrees in political science and history from the University of Pittsburgh.
