O H Congratula ons to the OSSA White Hockey Team who managed to defeat Perthville PS 5‐1 in yesterday’s first round match. This is an outstanding effort by our team, who have not played together before today. In addi on, they only had 10 players to take the field, with the other team having 3 reserves. Thankyou to Mrs Adams for organising and coaching the students. Her con nued commitment to the girls hockey is appreciated. The girls now move to the second round of the compe on, playing against Calare Public School date and venue TBA.

P S T ‐ On Wednesday and Thursday of Week 1, the Year 6 students spent 2 days at the Cudal showgrounds par cipa ng in peer support training conducted by Mrs Campbell. This training was to prepare them for their roles as Peer Support Leaders. The students took part in many fun ac vi es to assist in developing skills that they will use running their groups. Students learnt about communica on and all the different ways we can deliver informa on. They learnt about empathy, decision making, being asser ve, problem solving and team work. Some words from the students to describe the 2 days training were: fun, interac ve, important, worthwhile, new, exci ng, awesome and informa ve. All year 6 students should be extremely proud of their efforts throughout the training and we have no doubt that they will be outstanding leaders during our Peer Support Program.

Week 3 – Lesson 1 Being Friendly

We are commencing our Peer Support lessons in week 3. The whole school par cipates in Peer Support for 30 minutes each weeks. Two Peer leaders facilitate a small group of 8‐10 younger students, who work together through a number of structured ac vi es. Each teacher will supervise 2 groups in their classroom. We are working on a module called Keeping Friends helping us explore the concept of friendship, build rela onships and develop skills in empathy and cri cal thinking. The module runs for 8 sessions. Our first session enables the children to get to know everyone in their group, agreeing on how they will work together and interact coopera vely with others. They will also begin to think about the meaning of friendship. We encourage you to talk to your children about Peer Support every week as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.

K L U ‐ K/1/2 students enjoyed their first lesson in the newly carpeted and rearranged library. The staff room is also very fresh a er being fi ed with lino throughout during the holidays.

D V D R ‐ During the last week of term 1 , eight students from Cudal a ended the da Vinci Decathlon, an academic challenge hosted by Scots All Saints in Bathurst. The decathlon required students to work in pairs to solve some extremely challenging problems covering ten different subjects, ranging from Mathema cs and Engineering, to code breaking, Science and Poetry. Our students displayed impeccable behaviour (as always) and the whole school can be super proud of their efforts and achievements. Compe ng against schools considerably larger than our own (some have one hundred students in Year Six alone!), we achieved some amazing results. We were awarded a third in a very challenging General Knowledge. Anyone able to recognise Fidel Castro or Che Guevera? Or name the countries they came from? (Cuba and Argen na) Or name federal poli cian’s por olios and discuss the state of NSW budget? In Science we achieved a very impressive second place. What makes this result so remarkable is the fact that much of the content involved subjects not encountered un l high school. Subjects included Year Nine Physics and Year Ten Chemistry. Some of the material would even be familiar to Year Eleven students!!

An enormous thank you must go to the parents and grandparents of the students involved in ge ng everyone there. Thank you to the students who a ended as well‐ you were simply amazing. L E V ‐ The students will all agree Life Educa ons annual visit was once again a success. Thank you to the P&C for funding this very valued program for our students.

N Students in years 3 and 5 will par cipate in their NAPLAN tes ng during week 3 of this term on the 14th, 15th and 16th of May. This tes ng will be conducted online this year. Mrs Adams has been se ng up computers and working with students giving them trial runs in prepara on for these tes ng days.

O A Informa on was sent home in term 1, giving students the opportunity to a end external Opera on Art Workshops. A endance to the workshops was to be organised privately by parents. Rebeckah Kearney, Blythe Alchin, Gabby Alchin, Ebony Lawry, Wil Gillespie and Chloe Irvine have all taken up this opportunity, a ending workshops today and tomorrow in Orange. Thankyou to parents for organising their child’s a endance, transport and suppor ng this wonderful program.
