ELIGIBILITY: District Camp is open to boys who are in Discovery Rangers (3rd-5th grades) through Expedition Rangers (High School).

Ranger Kids (K-2nd grades) can attend only if their dad is a Commander, and is attending District Camp with his outpost.

Every male 18 and older must have a signed consent form to attend District Camp. The consent form is included with this booklet.

VISITORS: Visitors are allowed on site between 12:00 pm and end of service on Saturday, May 5th. The cost for a visitor on site is $10, and includes a camp hat and visitor badge. Visitors will wear the badge at all times while on camp premises and must be with an outpost escort at all times. Visitors may be women or children. Visitors may register on-line prior to District Camp or on site.

INSURANCE: In the event a member of an outpost is injured, he must obtain an insurance form from the Health & Safety Officer and notify the District Director before leaving the camp for medical treatment.

SUNDAY SCHOOL & CHURCH SERVICE: Everyone at the District Camp will be required to attend Sunday school and all Services. We owe this to God, our Pastors, and ourselves.

COMPETITION: Outposts are all encouraged to participate in all events. Some events include specific awards for performance, while others require participation to qualify for consideration as the top outpost for District Camp - the Big E Award! The Big E Award is a traveling outpost award that each outpost has a chance of winning if they participate in District Camp events and perform well in other competitions, such as Campsite Inspection, number of boys in attendance and number of boys invited to camp, specific events and participation in the big outpost competition event - the Secret Outpost Event!

Page 5: 2019 camp packet · 2019-02-18 · District Camp is open to boys who are in Discovery Rangers (3rd-5th grades) through Expedition Rangers (High School). Ranger Kids (K-2nd grades)

Events

FCF Village: The FCF Village includes blacksmithing, leatherwork, hawk and knife throwing, flint and steel and several displays. Additionally, there will be a trading post for boys to trade money or items for cool things.

Archery: An archery range is available for all ages.

Shooting Range: A shooting range with fully qualified range and safety officer is available for shooting both air rifles and .22 rifles for boys of all ages.

Trap Shooting: A trap range with 20 gauge shotguns and fully qualified range masters is open to all ages.

Secret Outpost Event: The district staff will host the outpost competition event this year! Each outpost should select one leader and two boys to compete in the event. The only clue we will give you is: select the leader and boys ahead of time and bring a set of old clothes AND SHOES for them to wear for the event. They will get dirty! This event is a required competition to win the Big E Award!

Sectional Events: Each section is providing an event based on a Cowboy Theme for all campers to enjoy during the event session on Saturday. The sections will man their respective events during the entire event period listed in the schedule. All events will be located in the center of the campsites for easy access by all campers.

Patrol Spirit: Each outpost should ensure their patrols have a patrol flag and insignia (bolo, handkerchief, wristband, etc.), and wear their camp hats while in District Camp. Additionally, outposts should have an outpost banner or sign at their campsite. Patrol flags, insignia and outpost banners all effect the outcome of winning the Big E Award.

Stump Preaching: When events open at 8:30 am on Saturday morning, boys may compete in stump preaching. Boys should preach or expound on a specific scripture of their choice. Preaching time is no longer than 3 minutes. Judges will listen to the preachers and make decisions in awarding a first, second and third place for all age groups. Stump Preaching will occur by the tables near the FCF Village.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: Health is everyone's responsibility.

There is always a very good chance that we will not be able to have campfires due to fire danger. You will need to be prepared to use Gas Fire Stoves only,

1. In the event of high fire danger, No Campfires!! Commanders, your supervision is necessary to insure a safe District Camp for your outpost and the total encampment. The safety committee will be checking each campsite.

2. Safety First!! DO NOT throw pine cones, rocks, or any other objects outside of competition activities. People could get hurt very easily.

3. An emergency care consent form for all boys under 18 must be available to the Outpost Commander at all times.

4. If anybody needs to take medicine, he must bring a note signed by his parents stating the name of the medicine and the time it must be taken. The note and medicine must be in the possession of his Outpost Coordinator.

5. Don't use gasoline or kerosene lamps in your tents. Use only flashlights. Tents will burn quickly.

6. Use the Adventures in Camping Handbook for guidelines on Fire craft, Tool craft, Safety, and Sanitation.

7. No firearms are allowed in the camp other than those used for competition events.

8. If anyone gets hurt, bring him to the First Aid Station with his emergency care consent form. Anyone injured at the District Camp MUST obtain an insurance form from the District Staff or the Health & Safety Officer. This form must accompany the injured person to the hospital or doctor for treatment. Failure to follow this procedure will result in YOU paying the cost of treatment.

9. It is REQUIRED that every adult, 18 years of age and older, complete the “Medical Record for District Campout” and turn in a copy at the registration table upon arriving to District Camp.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 1. EVENT RESPONSIBILITY: The various Sections will each run an event. NOTE: Each

section is responsible to bring the equipment necessary to run their event.

2. All outposts must have their campsites inspected for cleanliness before receiving their patches and leaving the District Camp site on Sunday.
