Fifteen Years Living with Grizzly BearsWow! How many people can say that? Don Halloran explains that five of those years were spent with the Canadian Wildlife Service researching bears in the Yukon Territory and ten years as a naturalist in Glacier National Park, which has the largest

concentration of bears in the lower 48 states. Don revisits his years in the Yukon, with other scientists, as they live-capture, sedate and fit bears with radio tracking collars. Additionally, blood samples were collected for testing (at the Marshfield Clinic) to assess physiological changes throughout the year. This understanding of wild bears was vital in his later work as a naturalist in Glacier National Park where he was responsible for the safety of visitors during his daily hikes. In this audio-visual presentation, participants will enjoy seeing scientists at work studying the life cycle of bears in some of the most spectacularly beautiful mountains of North America.

Program includes hors d’oeuvres and presentation

Former governor of Wisconsin, Marty Schreiber, has seen his beloved wife, Elaine, gradually transform from the woman who had gracefully entertained in the executive residence to one who sometimes no longer recognizes him as her husband. In his book, “My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver,” Marty candidly counsels those taking on this caregiving role. Marty will share his struggles in caring for his wife and offer sage advice that respects the one with Alzheimer’s while maintaining the caregiver’s health. With patience, adaptability, and even a sense of humor, Marty shows how love continues for his Second Elaine.
