I want to start by saying thank you toeveryone that attended the Mid-WinterMeeting in Lebanon A record number 160guests attended making it one of if notthe best attended winter meeting in thehistory of the OSA We did get off to a bitof rough start with technical difficulties and

a missing speaker (due to the governmentshutdown) but we were able to finish themeeting on time There was a lot of greatdebate over some of the issues which isvery helpful guidance for the Board andgives us a better idea how you wish us tomove forward
Since the Mid-Winter Meeting in Januarythe entire Board has met to determine ourpositions of support or opposition onlegislative bills that we feel could have aneffect on our industry both at the farmerlevel andor dealer The executivecommittee is conferencing weekly with thelobbyists from PacWest to keep apprisedof the status of those bills and to getstrategic advice on progressing our ownbill (SB 863) through the legislature

On Monday March 4 almost 20 OSA members attended our 3rd annual advocacy day at the SalemCapitol In addition to meeting with legislators OSA hosted an educational booth on the first floor lobbywith displays highlighting the life cycle of a seed from research and breeding to distribution to the endcustomer Visitors to the booth received packets of wildflower seeds Rep Boshart Davis gave anintroduction of our group from the House floor Giving voice to the organization and educating legislatorson our issues was gratifying to everyone who participated Stay tuned for our next visit to the capital inFebruary 2020

It was a successful turnout at the 2019 Oregon Seed Associations annual Mid-Winter Meeting held thisyear at the beautiful Boulder Falls Inn in Lebanon Oregon The meeting began with a presentation fromAnthony Kuchulis of Barran Liebman speaking on changes to the Oregon Equal Pay Act an all-encompassing and yet most quietly passed employment law in the United States Another highlight wasa legislative panel with insightful advice from ag lobbyists Roger Beyer (Oregon Seed Council) JennyDresler (Oregon Farm Bureau) Katie Fast (Oregonians for Food amp Shelter) and Paul Phillips (PacWestCommunications)

Grant RothGrant is a junior at OSU majoring in Turf Management He grewup on a diversified family farm outside of Silverton His interest inturf management came from watching sports on television and hiscuriosity in how they made the fields look so good To pursue hisgoal of being a major league grounds keeper Grant interned lastsummer with a minor league baseball team in South Carolinawhere he learned how to manage Bermudagrass turf Nextsummer Grant will be interning again this time with theWashington Nationals Major League Baseball team in WashingtonDC
Matt Liszewski Matt is a junior majoring in Agronomy at OSU He grew up inSouth Salem and his interest in agriculture was piqued by aneighbor who works for Valley Agronomics (Wilco) Matt was ableto shadow him for a period and that solidified his career plan Hehas worked during college for Golden Valley Farms learning allabout production agriculture which he feels will help him in hiscareer While at OSU he has been very involved with the CropScience club getting to know potential clients and gaining aneven better understanding of the agricultural community
Travis TubbsTravis is a second-year doctorate student in Crop Science atOSU He is also a Major in the United States Air Force (USAF)His thesis topic is analysis of seed shattering in perennialryegrass He will be developing an algorithm from 3D pictures toidentify shattering characteristics Upon completion of his

It was a successful turnout at the 2019 Oregon Seed Associations annual Mid-Winter Meeting held thisyear at the beautiful Boulder Falls Inn in Lebanon Oregon The meeting began with a presentation fromAnthony Kuchulis of Barran Liebman speaking on changes to the Oregon Equal Pay Act an all-encompassing and yet most quietly passed employment law in the United States Another highlight wasa legislative panel with insightful advice from ag lobbyists Roger Beyer (Oregon Seed Council) JennyDresler (Oregon Farm Bureau) Katie Fast (Oregonians for Food amp Shelter) and Paul Phillips (PacWestCommunications)

Grant RothGrant is a junior at OSU majoring in Turf Management He grewup on a diversified family farm outside of Silverton His interest inturf management came from watching sports on television and hiscuriosity in how they made the fields look so good To pursue hisgoal of being a major league grounds keeper Grant interned lastsummer with a minor league baseball team in South Carolinawhere he learned how to manage Bermudagrass turf Nextsummer Grant will be interning again this time with theWashington Nationals Major League Baseball team in WashingtonDC
