Welcome

Welcome to the Carver County 4-H Horse Project, including Horseless Horse, Horse Related and

Horse Training. The mission of the Carver County 4-H Horse Project is to promote and encourage

fun, teamwork, friendship, sportsmanship, fair competition, leadership, education, responsibility,

and organization skills. The final outcome is to develop a well-rounded youth.

The Carver County 4-H Horse Project Handbook is a guide for the Carver County 4-H Horse

Project member. A team of 4-H members, volunteers, and staff have worked together to provide

this helpful information. Every effort has been taken to ensure its accuracy. If there are questions,

please contact the Extension Office. Watch for updates, changes, and additional Horse Project

4-H FRIDAY FACTS 4-H Friday Facts is a collection of thorough information regarding upcoming events and

happenings within the Carver County 4-H Program. Instead of sending out many different emails

with project/event information, members receive one email every Friday. If there is important or

special project information, there may be additional emails.

HORSE PROJECT DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (PDC) Horse Project Development Committee (PDC) promotes the Horse Project in Carver County and

assists all members with their project needs. Meetings are held periodically throughout the year.

All 4-H Horse Project volunteers, parents, and members 6th grade and older are encouraged to

participate. Watch for monthly Clover Updates and 4-H Friday Facts for meeting details.

FUNDRAISING POLICY The cost for the Horse program is covered by fundraising, sponsorship, and/or contributions

from its members.

Each Horse Project member is expected to embrace one of the following fundraising options:

1. Participate in PDC-organized group fundraising event

2019 Event – Culver’s (Waconia, MN)

2. Gain a local business donation of $50 by August 1st, 2019

Carver County businesses are invited to donate to the 4-H Horse project. In return, the

business name/logo/contact information is published in the Carver County Fair Horse

Show program(s) and announced/promoted via microphone by the Show Announcer

during the Horse Show(s).

3. Contribute $30 per family at or before Horse Check-In at the Carver County Fair.

Payments should be made via check to: Carver County 4-H Horse Project

A 4-H member who does not meet any of the fundraising options will forfeit his or her Carver

County Fair premiums.

Scholarships are available for families experiencing financial hardship. Contact the Carver County

4-H Program Coordinator for more information.

PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR POLICY 4-H Horse Project members are required to wear ASTM/SEI approved protective and properly

fastened headgear. 4-H members not wearing properly fastened protective headgear will not be

able to participate in 4-H Horse Project events and activities.

Per MN State 4-H policy, if a rider’s helmet comes off of his or her head during competition, the

rider is automatically disqualified.

NEGATIVE COGGINS POLICY A Coggins test is a blood test performed on a horse by a veterinarian to test for Equine Infectious

Anemia.

MN 4-H policy is that any horse participating in any 4-H event must have a current ID and

negative Coggins documentation on file at the local Extension Office. Negative Coggins

documentation can be uploaded, along with the horse identification form, to a specific 4-Her’s

online profile. Coggins test results are due to the Extension Office prior to participating in any 4-

H event or activity.

Note: Negative Coggins documentation will be required on site for the Lindenruh Horse Show.

HEALTHY ANIMALS POLICY Strangles is a bacterial infection of the upper respiratory tract of horses, causing enlargement of

the lymph nodes in the throat, which may impair breathing.

If your horse is showing any of the symptoms listed below, you must keep your horse at home:

High fever

Poor appetite

Depression

Discharge from

the nose

Swollen lymph

nodes

Difficulty

breathing

If Strangles has been detected at your barn or where your horse is boarded, you must have your

veterinarian write an official note stating that your horse if free and clear of Strangles and may

comingle with other horses. Submit this note to the Extension Office.

OTHER INFORMATION Participants bring their animals to the 4-H Events/Activities and the Carver County Fair at

their own risk.

4-H events, involving horses, are designed for 4-H youth riders only. Adult 4-H or non 4-H

volunteers or guardians are not allowed to ride in the ring or on the Fairgrounds during

practice nights or clinics. Non 4-H friends and/or 4-Hers outside of the Horse Project may

not participate in Carver County 4-H Horse Project Clinics or Practices.

Every 4-H member’s parent or guardian is expected to work at least 2-3 hours as needed at

the Carver County 4-H Horse Show(s). Sign-up will be available prior to the Fair on the

online Volunteer Spot. Be looking for horse related and volunteer emails leading up to the

Fair.

Alcoholic beverages and the use of tobacco products are prohibited at all 4-H events and

activities.

Parents are expected to uphold the MN 4-H Code of Conduct which includes being

courteous and respectful and exhibiting good sportsmanship.

4-H YOUTH RECORD KEEPING Record keeping encourages youth to reflect on their experience so they can share it with others.

All 4-H members are encouraged to maintain Project Records on their projects.

CLOVERBUD Cloverbud (grades K-2 or 3) activities involving a horse require an adult or responsible person to

be in control of the animal at all times. Control means to handle and/or lead the animal.

Cloverbud horses must be on a lead line in all activities. Cloverbuds can participate in up to 3

Cloverbud Horse classes at the Fair.

Cloverbud 4-H members are welcome to stall horses or another member of the Equidae family at

the Carver County Fair.

HORSELESS HORSE, HORSE RELATED 4-H Horseless Horse offers the opportunity to study and learn about the horse for members who

do not own or lease a horse. 4-Hers who have IDed a horse or horses in the 4-H system may not

participate in Horseless Horse programs.

4-H Horse Related project members will learn about horses and will create an exhibit for the

Carver County Fair to demonstrate what they have learned. Horse Related project members may

own or lease a horse but do not need to bring an animal to the Fair to present a project in this

area.

HORSE TRAINING 4-H Horse Training is designed to help a 4-Her train his or her untrained horse using a step-by-

step process. The Horse Training book is a guide through the process and provides the

opportunity to track progress.

Helpful Information:

The horse being trained may not have been previously trained. The only trainer allowed to

train/work with the horse, during the project, is the 4-H member. Horses worked with by

trainers will be disqualified from the project.

A designated Carver County 4-H Horse Project Volunteer must review and sign the 4-H

Horse Training Project member’s book, every year by August 1st.

Any age horse may qualify provided that it has had no training beyond lunging. A horse

may not have been previously ground-driven or ridden.

A 4-H Member may not complete more than 3 levels per year. The levels must be

completed in order.

Horses in the Horse Training project may not be ridden in the County Fair until level 3

training has been completed and reviewed by an approved 4-H Horse Project Volunteer.

CHALLENGED RIDER PROGRAM (Pending Member Interest/ County Initiative in 2020)

The Challenged Rider Program is designed to allow Special Needs/ Disabled 4-H members the

opportunity to explore opportunities within the Minnesota 4-H Horse Project.

DRILL TEAMS (Pending Member Interest in 2019)

Drill team provide an opportunity for youth to develop drill team skills as well as leadership and

teamwork skills and to enhance the 4-H Horse Project while creating a positive environment for

the youth to develop mentoring skills with other youth. Drill team incorporates coordination and

timing with briskness or movement in a manner that is synchronized with others in the drill team.

Variety and creativity in attire and routine are allowed to be developed by the team and their drill

leader.

4-H HORSE PROJECT MEMBER ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM The Achievement Program is designed to help youth explore many exciting and fun parts of the 4-

H Horse Project. There are two parts to the Achievement Program – the Achievement Book and

the Horse Interview at the Carver County Fair. The Achievement Book is a prerequisite to the

Horse Interview. As a 4-Her moves through the program, he or she will:

Develop knowledge and understanding necessary for proper care, maintenance, and

handling of horses

Develop Project skills and personal skills

Advance according to his or her individual abilities and interests

Become eligible to earn Carver County Fair Show Points

It is recommended that all Carver County 4-H Horse Project members participate in the Horse

Member Achievement Program in addition to keeping Project Records.

This recommendation does not include Cloverbuds or Horseless Horse Project members.

ACHIEVEMENT BOOK

Each level must be completed in order. As you accomplish each skill, check it off in the

space provided. You may take up to two years to complete each level.

A designated Carver County 4-H Horse Project Volunteer must review and screen each skill.

4-H youth should be prepared to demonstrate their skills, on a horse, for the volunteer. A

list of Carver County 4-H Horse Project Volunteers are listed on page 18.

4-H Youth are responsible for having their Achievement Book reviewed and signed off by a

4-H Volunteer. Sign-off must be completed by August 1st. 4-H youth are also responsible

for presenting their signed and dated Achievement Book at Horse Check-In at the Carver

County Fair to prove completion.

Level 6 must be approved by an Official Judge at the MN State 4-H Horse Show. 4-H

members working on Level 6 will be eligible to go to the MN State 4-H Horse show to be

tested. A recommendation from your County Project Leader or Program Coordinator is

needed for this level.

Achievement Book County Fair Show Points Eligibly Requirements

4-H members must complete a half level in the Achievement Program every year by August 1st to

be eligible for County Fair Show Bonus Points. (Maximum of 10 Bonus Points - 5 applied to Games

scoring, 5 applied to Pleasure scoring - for Achievement Book.)

4-H HORSE INTERVIEW The Horse Interview is an optional experience for a 4-Her to verbally demonstrate his or her

Achievement Book and general horse-related knowledge and earn Horse Show Bonus Points.

Those who have met all Achievement Book, county, and state deadlines have the opportunity to

earn Horse Show Bonus Points.

4-H youth will register to participate in Horse Interviews when they register for show classes for

the Carver County Fair. Youth will also be asked to indicate a time range they would be able to be

on the grounds to participate in a Horse Interview. Interviews must be conducted in person and

appropriate Western or English Show Attire is encouraged. Horse Interviews will be held during

General Judging on the Tuesday of the Fair. 4-Hers will be assigned a judging time slot based on

the time availability they provide on their Fair registration.

Horse Interview questions will be based on which achievement level 4-Hers have completed in

combination with years in the 4-H Horse Project. Interviews will be conducted by a knowledgeable

horse judge.

Horse Interview County Fair Show Points Eligibly Requirements

Participation in the Horse Interview provides 4-Hers the opportunity to earn Bonus Points for the

County Fair Horse Show(s). (Maximum of 10 Bonus Points - 5 applied to Games scoring, 5 applied

to Pleasure scoring – for Horse Interviews.)

4-H HORSE PROJECT BOWL Project Bowls are an exciting way for youth to explore the Horse Project. Teams participate in

Horse Bowl competitions consisting of a game-style question/answer format. Winners of the

Regional Bowls advance to the State Bowl. Teams begin to form in December. Practices begin in

the winter. Regional Bowls are held in March and April. For more information, contact the

4-H HORSE HIPPOLOGY Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members by letting them exhibit their

knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive

setting. 4-Hers grades 6th and older may compete in teams or individually at the State 4-H Horse

Show. Winning teams represent Minnesota in National Competitions. Teams compete in phases, as

follows:

4-H HORSE SPEECH AND DEMONSTRATIONS This event is held at the State 4-H Horse Show. Youth in grades 6th and older, and younger than

19, are eligible to participate. Speech and Demonstrations must pertain to the horse industry.

Demonstrations may be an individual presentation or by a team of two. Live horses are not

allowed.

4-H HORSE JUDGING In this event, 4-H youth will make a careful study of a horse, measuring it against an accepted

ideal. Horse Judging is an art in which a knowledgeable person expresses his or her opinion of a

class of animals by placing them in ranking order and must be able to orally defend the order of

placement.

Participants may enter the contest as a team or as an individual. The contest takes place at the MN

4-H State Horse Show.

4-H CLINICS AND PRACTICE NIGHTS Horse Project members are invited to practice and participate in Clinics over the summer at the

Carver County Fairgrounds to improve their skills. Carver County 4-H Horse Project Volunteers

lead and supervise these activities. Member registration, due May 1, is required for Clinics.

Activities will be canceled if 2 Carver County 4-H Horse Project Volunteers are not present.

Cloverbuds must follow the MN 4-H Cloverbud Animal Policy.

Clinic and Practice night information will be distributed to 4-H Horse Project members via email.

Please watch 4-H Friday Facts for updates.

Practice nights and Clinics are designated for 4-H youth riders only. Adult 4-H or non-4-H

volunteers or guardians are not allowed to ride in the ring or on the Fairgrounds during Clinic or

Practice nights. Non 4-H friends and/or 4-Hers not in the Horse Project may not participate in

Carver County 4-H Horse Project Clinics or Practices.

Practice Nights may be canceled due to inclement weather or poor arena conditions.

Notification will be sent with as much advance warning as possible given the

circumstances.

All riders must follow the 4-H Headgear Policy in order to participate.

Walk/Trot times will be established on a nightly basis by the adult volunteers on duty. If

you wish to ride a walk/trot time, please seek out one of the volunteers upon arriving. If

there is no request, no designated time will be allotted. The walk/trot time will be between

30 and 45 minutes, with no minimum number of participants. Any rider may participate

as long as proper gaits are maintained.

Stay alert and practice courtesy. Proper ring etiquette consists of always keeping at least

one horse length between your horse and any other horse around you.

Think left-left when passing from the opposite direction. At most arenas, the rule is to

pass left shoulder to left shoulder if going in the opposite directions.

Don’t mount on the track. The proper thing to do is to lead your horse to the center of the

arena to a location away from other horses and to then mount your horse.

Riders moving at a faster gait have priority on the track. If you are walking or riding

slower, move to the inside of the track.

Communicate with other riders.

If someone falls off – stop. If you’re the closest rider, dismount, and offer assistance. Wait

for an Adult Volunteer before moving an injured rider. Help the person and catch his or

her horse if it is loose. If the rider is injured, appoint someone to call for help.

No talking or texting on cell phones while riding.

Keep gates closed while riding in an arena.

Please pick up after yourself and your horse.

CARVER COUNTY FAIR Fair registration: http://carver.Fairentry.com. Please register for all classes online.

Participants bring their animals to the Carver County Fair at their own risk.

4-H members may only exhibit their own or leased animal. An owned-horse may be used

as a project animal by more than one member as long as all requirements are met. A

leased-horse may not be shown by another person during the lease period.

With safety in mind, only stallions foaled in the current 4-H year will be allowed at the

county Fair. Male foals may be shown but yearling and older stallions are ineligible as 4-H

projects. The age of the horse shall be computed on the basis of a calendar year starting

January 1st of the year foaled. It is considered to be a weanling during the first calendar

year following its foaling date.

4-H members may show only one horse in each class. An exhibitor may show multiple

horses in separate divisions/classes. State Fair Trip and award points will be applied per

horse/rider combination.

Trainers and adults are not allowed to exercise, work out, or ride 4-H members’ animals at

the Carver County Fair.

4-H Horse Project members are required to check-in on Tuesday (5pm-8pm) or

Wednesday (10am-12pm) at the Carver County Fairgrounds. Members who do not check-

in will be scratched from ribbon placings but may ride for participation only.

County Fair Check Out: Check-out is 8pm on Sunday. Horses and projects must be on

exhibit until 8pm on Sunday. All horses and projects must be removed, and stalls cleaned

out, by 10pm on Sunday. Failure to comply will result in loss of County Fair premium

check and State Fair 4-H Horse Show Trip.

4-H members may add/delete/switch classes during Horse Project Check-In at the Carver

County Fair. Scratch cards will be available the day of the show; however, no other changes

or additions will be allowed the day of the show.

Horse Project exhibitors will receive one premium regardless of quantity of classes

participated.

4-H Food Stand: It is expected that all 4-H members exhibiting at the County Fair must

work one shift at the 4-H Food Stand. Contact your club leader or the Extension Office for

your club’s pre-determined shift(s). If you are unable to work your scheduled shift, please

contact the Extension Office. Independent members must also work a shift.

The Carver County Fair 4-H Premium book will list schedules, rules, and other helpful

information for 4-H Fair entries. This list will become available in early summer. Copies

will be distributed to families. They may also be accessed at the Carver County Extension

PLEASE NOTE! In case of inclement weather arena conditions at the Carver County Fair will be

evaluated by the Horse Fair Committee, 4-H Program Coordinator and Fairboard Members. Horse

Show makeup date will be Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Carver County Fair Grounds.

STALLING AT THE CARVER COUNTY FAIR Stalling at the Fair is a privilege and valuable component of the 4-H experience. Animals

owned or leased by 4-H members are, in fact, on exhibit for the duration of the Fair, and, in

return, the use of the Horse Arena for exhibition and competition, premium payments, and

judge compensation are funded by the Fair Board.

All members of the Equidae (Horse Family) including horses, donkeys, and mules owned or

leased and IDed by the May 15th deadline by 4-H Horse Project participants are welcome to

apply for stalling privileges, as exhibits of 4-H, at the discretion of the 4-H Extension

Office.

Stalled animals need not participate in a Carver County Fair Horse Show.

Cloverbuds are welcome to apply for stalling privileges.

All stalled animals must have current, negative Coggins results on file with the Extension

Office.

Intent to Stall/Application forms and a $25 stalling fee are due to the Extension Office

by July 5th. If you are unable to stall your horse at the county fair, a veterinarian note

must be obtained. To be eligible for a State Horse Show Trip, the note must state why the

horse is unable to stall at the county fair but is able to stall at the State Horse Show.

Members who turn in their forms and fee after July 5th will be ineligible for State Horse

Show Trips. The $25 stalling fee is refundable only if you are not assigned a stall or if you

are granted stalling exemption from the Extension Office. State Fair eligibility will be at the

discretion of the County Extension Office staff.

4-Hers who do not apply for and accept stalling privileges, of any member of the Horse

Family, will be ineligible for State Fair Horse Show Trips unless granted exemption from

the Extension Office.

In the event that applications to stall exceed the capacity of the Horse Barn, 4-Hers, based

on seniority of a Horse Project family member, will be able to opt out of stalling (granted

exemption from stalling). Seniority is determined by the Extension Office.

4-Hers will be notified of stalling acceptance by approximately July 15th.

Placement in the barn is at the discretion of the Extension Office.

Upon approval of stalling privileges, animals may be brought to the Fairgrounds beginning

Tuesday of the Fair.

Stalled animals are to remain in the 4-H Horse Barn from noon Wednesday through 8 PM

Sunday, unless excused with a written release from the Official Carver County Fair

Veterinarian. Animals that are removed before 8 PM on Sunday will forfeit their premium

check and any State Fair Trip(s) they have earned.

4-H Horse Barn security begins Tuesday at 11 PM. Security will close the barn each evening,

Tuesday-Saturday, at 11 PM. No one is permitted in the barn after 11PM, unless special

permission is given, veterinary assistance is required, or to participate in a Carver County

Fair Horse Show that is running late. The barn security attendant will stay overnight in the

barn.

Each family that stalls will be responsible for working a barn watch shift during the Fair for

each horse stalled. A parent/guardian is required to be present during each barn watch

shift. For example if you stall 3 horses, you must work 3 shifts. Sign up will be available

prior to the Fair via the online Volunteer Spot.

4-H members are responsible for keeping their animals fed and watered. They are to keep

their stall, tack stall, and surrounding area clean and tidy. It is recommended that animals

be walked at least 3-4 times per day.

Stalls must be completely cleaned out and stripped of bedding before checking out on

Sunday between 8-10 PM.

4-H members assume liability of their tack and equipment left in the Horse Barn.

The Carver County Fair is a public event. 4-H members and their families are expected to

be respectful, courteous, and aware of the public at all times. Please represent Carver

County 4-H in a positive way at all times.

HERDSMANSHIP CONTEST Herdsmanship should be a fun and educational activity.

The purpose of the Herdsmanship Contest is to develop knowledge and skill in proper care,

handling, and housing of animals on public exhibition. Herdsmanship should focus on teamwork,

showing pride in exhibits, learning to pick up and take care of the area, interacting with the public

and proper care and treatment of animals.

The Horse Barn opens to the public at 7am. Overnight barn security items must be moved

out of sight.

4-H members and volunteers are responsible for keeping the Horse Barn, including stalls

and walkways, clean and presentable during the Carver County Fair.

Examples include:

a. Clean and picked stalls with fresh bedding

b. No feed pans in stalls

c. Clean water in stalls

d. Walkways swept and clean

e. Clean animals - free of manure stains

f. Open tack spaces organized and free of clutter including hay and bedding

CHAMPION/RESERVE CHAMPION, ALL-AROUND AWARDS At the Carver County Fair, Horse Show(s) Awards will be given to the top 6 eligible riders for 1st-6th

place in each class, in all age groups.

Participants who have met State and County deadlines and who receive blue or red 4-H ribbons, as

determined by the 4-H Horse Show Judge(s), are eligible for Champion and Reserve Champion

Awards. Pleasure and Games each have a Champion and Reserve Champion awarded to an

individual horse/rider combination accumulating the most award points in each Age Division and

in the Novice Division.

New for 2019! To encourage 4-Her participation, all Horse Show Classes will award points for

County (Champion, Reserve Champion, All-Around) Awards.

In case of a points tie, awards are assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most first

places. If a tie remains, awards are assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most second

places. If a tie remains, awards are assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most third

places. If a tie still remains, awards are assigned by the 4-H Judge by drawing names out of a hat.

All-Around Awards are given to the horse/rider combination that participated in both the

Pleasure and Games Horse Shows and accumulated the most points. All-Around awards are

provided in each of the Age Divisions and in the Novice Division. Points for Horse Achievement

Book and Horse Interview (10 points total) will be applied only once toward All-Around Awards.

STATE FAIR TRIP ELIGIBILITY MN 4-H determines the number of State Horse Project (State Fair) Trips for each county. Carver

County State Fair Trip winners are determined by a point system. Points are earned during the

Carver County Fair.

To be eligible for a State Fair Trip, the following criteria must be met:

1. Must be a 4-H member, grade 6 and older

2. All Carver County deadlines/obligations met including:

a. Online enrollment in 4-H by May 15th

b. Horse ID, photo, and lease agreement (if applicable) by May 15th

c. 4-H Carver County Fair registration is due July 2nd

d. Application to Stall and payment by July 5th

Reminder: 4-Hers who do not apply for and accept Carver County Fair stalling

privileges will be ineligible for State Fair Trips.

e. Proof of negative Coggins provided at Caver County Fair Check-In or earlier

STATE FAIR TRIP POINT SYSTEM The quantity of State Trips (Games/Pleasure) is allocated by MN 4-H per the prior year’s discipline

participation of youth grade 3 and older, including Novice riders.

Points are assigned by a point tabulator and verified by a second person at the Carver County Fair.

There are two separate point divisions and State Trip line ups: Pleasure and Games. The

horse/rider combinations with the highest points receive State Trips in their respective divisions

(Games or Pleasure). Points are applied by time (Games) or judge (Pleasure) to all eligible

participants in grades 6 and above, not by placing in age classes.

State Fair Trip Points will be awarded to participants who place 1st through 10th in classes at the

Carver County Fair. Only blue 4-H ribbon placings will be awarded points.

For Games, if a participant is not State Trip eligible (has not met the County or State requirements

for a State Trip) and he or she places in the top 10 blue ribbons, his or her points will be awarded

to him or her. The next contestant gets the next available point value and so on.

The times for the Game Events will be scored as one group, grades 6-13.

For Pleasure, if a participant does not meet the County or State requirements for a state Trip but

placed in the top 10 blue ribbons, his or her points will be awarded to him or her if he or she

chooses to participate in the call back class.

Riders are not required to follow dress codes in Pleasure call back classes

The number of points awarded for each placing will be as follows, regardless of the number of

contestants:

A participant may ride 2 horses, but in different divisions (Pleasure and Games).

If the exhibitor shows the same horse for both Pleasure and Games, totals will be tabulated

separately on the horse/rider combination (Pleasure and Games). Upon determination, State Fair

Line Ups will be displayed in the 4-H Office at the Carver County Fair.

If an exhibitor is awarded two State Fair Trips, he or she must choose one Trip (either Pleasure or

Games). The remaining Trip will be awarded to the next highest point earner.

Bonus Trip Determination

The winner of the Bonus State Trip will be announced after the shows have been completed and

youth have exhausted the line up on either side. The 2 youth who are next in line for Pleasure and

Games will be compared to see who has the most points. Pleasure classes will use an 8-point scale

(5 classes) and Game classes will use a 10-point scale (4 classes), so that both disciplines will be

based on a 40-point scale.

In case of a points tie, the Bonus Trip is assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most

first places. If a tie remains, awards are assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most

second places. If a tie remains, awards are assigned to the horse/rider combination with the most

third places. If a tie still remains, awards are assigned by drawing names out of a hat.

State Trail Class

Carver County is given a limited number of Trail Class entries. The opportunity to enter the State

Trail Class is awarded to the participant(s) who placed the highest in the Trail Class at the Carver

County Fair. This is not a separate trip.

Bonus Points

A maximum of 10 points can be earned and applied to State Fair Trip scoring by any 4-Her who

completes a half level in his or her Achievement Book and participates in the Horse Interview. A

4-Her who has completed level 5 of his or her Achievement Book will automatically receive 5

points credit for her or her Achievement Book. He or she is encouraged to participate in the

Horse Interview and points applied as such.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS 4-H Program Coordinator: Designated Extension Staff member who administrates day to day

activities for the Carver County 4-H youth development program.

Carver County Fair 4-H Premium book: 4-H project list with schedules, rules and other helpful

information for 4-H County Fair entries. Refer to this list when completing your Fair Entry.

Regional Extension Educator: Designated 4-H Staff member who provides leadership and

management of the County and Regional 4-H youth development program. The name and contact

Novice Horse Project Member: A rider, of any age, who has minimal experience in horse show

competition. If a member has won a 1st place in any age class at a previous Carver County 4-H

show, he or she will need special permission from the Extension Office to ride as a Novice.
