  • Robert Smith Sr., M.D. On December 19, 2018, God called Otrie Bertrelle Hickerson Smith to

    Himself where she was welcomed by parents Carl, Sr. and Murphy, brothers

    Carl Jr. and Charles, and son Robert. Otrie was married to Dr. Robert Smith,

    Sr. As accomplished as she was as a physician, Otrie’s real passion and pride

    were in her roles as mother, wife, and servant of the Lord. The three were

    inextricably bound together and manifested in a variety of ways. She poured

    her life into the lives of her family. She took seriously the words of her

    mother Murphy who said “ I live to make a contribution to humanity through

    my children” She is survived by husband Dr. Robert Smith Sr., son Claude

    Alexander, Jr. (Kimberly), daughters Donna Elizabeth Smith and Pamela

    (Columbus) Broadnax.

  • James “Jimmie” Jackson James is the oldest son of Elizabeth “Red” Pruitt. (He is also known as

    Jimmie or Ghost). Jimmie celebrated his 80th Birthday in April.

    He celebrated his birthday with a trip to Houston Texas and a cruise to Mex-

    ico with his loving wife Karen, sister Marian and brother-in-law, Johnny.

    They all had a BLAST. He also got to spend time with his loving Houston

    family. In April his wife, Karen and children (Angela, Sharron, Millicent

    and Les) gave him an 80th birthday party at TGIF. Jimmie and Karen are

    enjoying retirement life. Jimmie enjoys teaching bible class at his retirement

    building along with playing pool, cards, bingo and going to the theater.

    Etta Smith-Waugh, Ph.D. Kaylin Nichols daughter of Natasha Harris, granddaughter of Charles and

    Etta Smith-Waugh graduated from high school. She plans to go to the

    University of Maryland Eastern Shore and major in General Agriculture.

    Dr. Perry Smith III “Health challenges” I missed Thanksgiving with Zeraline and family for the

    first time in 50 years. Just off a cruise with family from Texas, Conn.,

    St Louis, MD, SC, GA, etc. Wife lost a brother and her last Aunt in same

    week: Trouble walking because of pinched nerve in my back... use walking

    cane at all times, great visit from cousins from Renova., Spent a week at

    Christmas at the invitation of Maude's nieces and nephews in Houston. Still

    blessed and enjoying retirement. No complaints just adjusting to life changes.

    Darroll Triche Congratulations to our son, Quinten C. Triche on his graduation from Norcross

    High School. He will be attending Georgia State University. Rhea and I are

    proud parents.

    Carla Freeman This year is filled with accomplishments. My oldest daughter, Jamie graduated

    from Cortiva School of Massage Therapy. She is now a licensed Massage

    Therapist!!! So if you need a massage you know who to contact. No, she's not

    giving out family discounts. How would she earn a living if she does that on a

    continuous basis? Yes, she will come to your house or wherever you need her

    My youngest daughter, Jasmin Haskins is the Rookie of the year at Liberty

    Mutual. She did so well her job is sending her and her husband Brandon on a

    vacation to the Bahamas!!! Jasmin's office is located in Nashville TN. so if you

    Najma Shy (great granddaughter of Zeraline, granddaughter of Estelle

    Carolyn) is the proud graduate of Oglethorpe College in Atlanta. She was a

    communications major, and is looking for an internship before starting grad

    school.

    Edwina (Zeraline’s second oldest) received the Dr. Sara Winifred Brown

    Award from the North Jersey Branch of The National Association of

    University Women. The award was presented for excellence in pediatric

    medicine.

    Angela Jackson-Shanks Angela Jackson-Shanks, oldest daughter of James “Jimmie” Jackson was

    honored to celebrate her 15-year anniversary with Christian Hospital (BJC).

    BJC Healthcare is the largest private employer in the State of Missouri. She

    was also honored with the High Performer Award. During her quiet time she

    enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren Zuri, Ethan, Zane & Alayna,

    traveling with her boyfriend, James and riding in their 1966 Ford Thunderbird.

    Michael A. Shanks Michael Shanks, son or Angela Jackson-Shanks and grandson of James

    “Jimmie” Jackson accepted a job at Express Scripts as Senior Postgresql

    Database Administrator in April 2019. Michael has an MBA from Webster

    University. Michael and his wife, Shelly celebrated their 5-year anniversary

    in June and plan to return back to their honeymoon spot in Hawaii in July.

    Michael & Shelly have 2 children Ethan (4-years) who loves pre-school, and

    playing video games with his dad. Alayna (2-years) loves playing with her

    dolls and giving big hugs.

  • Angela Jackson-Shanks Family…. continued Destiny Shanks-Reddick, EdD Destiny Shanks-Reddick, daughter of Angela Jackson Shanks and grand-

    daughter of James “Jimmie” Jackson is the Assistant Dean of the School of

    Education at Maryville University in St. Louis, MO. Destiny received her

    Doctorate in Teacher Leadership (EdD) from Maryville University. Destiny

    has received two awards this year for her work in both the university and

    community- The President’s Strategic Award for Excellence in Diversity

    & Inclusion on behalf of Maryville University & a feature story in St.

    Louis’ annual publication, Who’s Who Diversity in Color: A Spectrum of

    Success for her participation on the Board of Directors for A Red Circle, a

    nonprofit founded to address racial injustice and inequality in the North St.

    Louis County region by way of community empowerment, emphasizing the

    arts and healthy food access, and education justice programming. In her

    role with the school of education, Destiny not only leads and helps support

    the faculty administratively, but she also develops students who are learning

    to become teachers. Destiny is married to Ashley Reddick; the couple just

    celebrated their 10-year anniversary this June. They have two children,

    Zuri (6) and Zane (2). Zuri competed in competitive dancing this past

    season and her team placed 1st and 5th. Zane is an active and very curious

    2-year old. He is definitely “all boy” and enjoys gymnastics and playing

    soccer at his new preschool.

    Zeraline Smith Verner Zeraline is the last surviving offspring of Perry and Priscilla Smith. Through

    93-years of prayerful living and many years battling Alzheimer’s disease,

    Zeraline Smith Verner’s sweet spirit endures! We cherish every smile!

    Marilyn (Zeraline’s daughter-one of the twins) and Dan Powell are proud

    grandparents! Their oldest son Nathan is the proud father of baby girl Nova.

    Beth (Zeraline’s baby!) and Ron Barkley are proud grandparents of baby girl

    Naila. First born of Ron’s daughter Crystal.

  • Darrel Pruitt & Family

    Darrel Pruitt is the son of Elizabeth “Red” Pruitt. Darrel is married to Terri

    and they have one daughter Brittany. Brittany earned her Bachelor of Science

    degree in Corporate Communication & Africana Studies from the University

    of Central Missouri and a Masters of Education in Adult & Higher Education

    from the University of Oklahoma. After completing her masters, Brittany spent

    several years working with the University of Pennsylvania, Washington

    University in St. Louis, and a variety of non-profits supporting their social

    justice efforts and educational initiatives. In 2017, Brittany joined the

    country’s largest and oldest environmental organization, Sierra Club, serving

    as the National Equity Trainer and Facilitator for the Office of Chapter Support

    and National Training Unit. Brittany considers herself a global citizen and

    enjoys trying new foods and cuisines, immersing herself in new cultures, all

    while traveling the world. Darrel works at West County Honda and was sales-

    person of the month in May. Darrel and Terri celebrated 21-years of marriage

    this year. Terri had some health set-backs this year but she is beginning to feel

    like herself again. She is thankful to God for covering her and for the

    continued support of her loving husband Darrel, and daughter Brittany.

    Millicent Victorian Millicent is the twin daughter of James “Jimmie” Jackson. Her twin sister, Sharron

    Troupe has traveled all over the world. They have visited over 23 countries and almost

    all the United States. They only have about six more states to visit and would have

    visited them all. She was a recipient of the “The Phenomenal Women” Award

    for all her Phenomenal Work in St. Louis. Presented by the Minority Business

    Exchange. Also, she won a year’s free (52) chicken meals from “Chick Fil-A” for

    being one of the first 100 customers in line before their “Grand Opening in Florissant,

    Missouri. She was the first one in the drive thru line…Bock Bock Bock! She loves and

    is very active in her church. She is the President of the Pastor Aid Auxiliary and

    Registration Coordinator for their Women’s Retreat. Our family reunion members

    staying over on Sunday will be attending her church (Bethesda Temple Church).

    Meanwhile, she has her own event planning business called “Performance”. She

    specialized in weddings, birthdays, reunions, graduations, retirement parties and more!

    Lastly, she is the ultimate Dallas Cowboys Fan.

    Sharron is the twin daughter of James “Jimmie” Jackson. She is the twin sister to

    Millicent Victorian who is her pride & joy. She resides in Chicago, Illinois for the past

    18 years. She currently is working for McDonalds Corporation. She has her own event

    planning business called “Atwintoo Productions” since 1999 and “It will make you do

    a double take.” She loves to travel the world and attend sporting events with her twin

    sister, Millicent. She has accomplished numerous awards since residing in Chicago.

    They are as follows: 7th Annual Chicago Defender Women of Excellence Award - 100

    Black Men of Chicago First Volunteerism Award - Alderman Willie B. Cochran of

    the 20th Ward Certification of Appreciation Award - CRDDC Spirit of Excellence

    Award for Business & Community Leadership - Featured in Today’s Chicago Woman

    Magazine - Tabitha House Community Service of Appreciation Award!

  • Lorre Troupe: Lorre is the youngest daughter of James “Jimmie” Jackson. On July 5, 2017,

    Lorre lost her son, Trey to suicide. We are still asking for prayers while she,

    her daughter, Taylor and our family continues to grieve. By the time, you

    read this the second-year anniversary would have passed. With that said, teen

    suicide in the African American community is running rampant more than

    ever. We must continue to talk and know what’s going on in the lives of our

    sons, daughters, granddaughters, and grandsons each day. Parenting is a

    lifetime job and it doesn’t stop once they reach a certain age. Continue to

    love, pray and talk to all our youth every day!

    Les Morgan: Les is the oldest son of James “Jimmie” Jackson. Les has been married to

    Yolonda for 30 years this coming August!! Les is the nationwide

    Vice President of MSC Marketing, representing fortune 500 companies,

    Charter, AT&T, DirecTV, Dish and Vivint smart home security systems.

    They have two beautiful daughters, LeSonya Hicks and Celess Morgan.

    Willie Jordan Jr. Willie Jordon Jr., is the son of Arlena Pruitt, grandson of Elizabeth “Red”

    Pruitt. Willie is an intricate member of the Down Syndrome Association of

    Greater St. Louis (DSAGSL). He has participated in many DSAGSL

    activities this year. He worked with his peers providing support to Pop-up

    Snack Shops. He also participated in the DSAGSL walk earlier this year.

    Along with walking for DSAGSL he has lost 85-lbs within the last two years

    and has a new name (Sexy Chocolate). Willie is a diehard Cardinals and Blues

    Fan. Willie is a St. Louis SAH committee member and has worked hard to help

    us plan the St. Louis Reunion. Willie has a delightful personality and embraces everyone he comes in contact with.

  • Barbara Brown What a wonderful and joyful experience to share my last vacation/cruise to

    Barcelona, Spain with Perry & Connie, Etta, Kaylon, Mildred & Elaina,

    Anna & Sal, Marian & Johnnie, Brenda & Robert and Dan Jr. It was truly a

    blessing to travel with my family a wonderful time was had by all. I retired

    March 10, 2019. Since I am now retired I am looking for a husband!!!

    Please submit a FAFSA form, upon review I will follow-up with any eligible

    bachelors that meet my criteria.

    Holland America Line – Newest ship the Nieum Statendan,

    Ms. Oprah Winfrey Godmother of the ship crated a memory of a lifetime!

    She inspired us in so many ways. My favorite memory was 365 letters for

    a year of gratitude!! Feel free to ask Marian Parish, Micha Poe, Gwendolyn Young or Anna Marie Brown to share their favorite moments

    as well.

    Les Morgan Family … continued LeSonya Morgan-Hicks LeSonya is the oldest daughter of Les and Yolonda Morgan and granddaughter

    of James “Jimmie” Jackson. LeSonya is married to Trenton Hicks Sr. they

    have two young sons, Trent Jr. and Langston. LeSonya has her own beauty

    shop, LeSonya House of Beauty.

    Celess Morgan

    Celess is the youngest daughter of Les and Yolonda Morgan and granddaugh-

    ter of James “Jimmie” Jackson. She has two handsome sons, Kayden and

    Kylon. Celess is engaged to Kylon Sr. Kayden is becoming a little Picasso

    and loves to draw. Kylon Jr. just graduated from pre-school and on his way to

    Kindergarten in the fall.

  • Louise Green Roberts Louise Green Roberts wife of Ronald “Ronnie” Roberts Sr. (who proceeded

    her in death) is still enjoying retirement after 40+ years from Barnes Jewish

    Hospital where she enjoys being pampered by her son and daughter when she

    is not pampering herself! The balance of her time is spent finding things to

    fuss about including pampering! She is also proud and fussing about the fact

    that her father, Lewis Green turns 100 years old this year and can outpace most

    a fraction of his age!

    Gwen Cropp Gwen Cropp, daughter of Ronald “Ronnie” Roberts, Sr. (deceased),

    granddaughter of Elizabeth “Red” Jackson Pruitt and great-granddaughter of

    Anna Anderson Jackson has endured another year of role reversal with her

    baby brother Ronnie, Jr. where attempts to act as the older sibling despite their

    10+ year gap. Gwen has been married to Chester for 33 years this coming

    August.

    Taylor Nicole Cropp Taylor Nicole Cropp, daughter of Gwen Cropp and Granddaughter of Ronnie

    Roberts, Sr. (deceased), great granddaughter of Elizabeth “Red” Jackson

    Pruitt and great-great granddaughter of Anna Anderson Jackson graduated

    from Culver-Stockton College in May with a Bachelor’s of Science in

    Criminal Justice. Taylor is engaged to Antonio Howard. Antonio is a

    member of the Armed Forces. Congratulations Taylor and Antonio!!

    Joe Lane Young FREE AT LAST!! FREE AT LAST!!

    Joe Young is the husband of Gwendolyn Young

    daughter of Elizabeth “Red” Pruitt.

    We’re counting the days. Yes it's true. Joe Young is officially retiring after

    44 years of dedicated service with the Missouri History Museum.

    Everyone is invited to attend the celebration on August 30, 2019.

    We’re going to blow the roof off!

    Joe started his career (while in diapers) on January 21,1975 at the Missouri

    History (Hysterical) Museum located in the Jefferson Memorial building in

    Forest Park. When Joe started the staff was small and exhibitions often went

    unchanged for decades. Joe arrived for work with black hair and was eager to

    take on many tasks. He quickly became the wearer of many hats including

    housekeeping, maintenance and audio visual. However, over the years he

    found his passion in HVAC. Along with Joe’s career path, there were lots of

    changes at the museum. Period rooms that were installed in 1959 evolved.

    The Library and Research Center opened in December of 1991 and the more

    recent addition is The Soldiers Memorial Bldg. Joe now ends his career as

    HVAC Technician with white hair and many fond memories. His most

    cherished memory is when he met the great Count Basie. After retirement,

    you will find Joe on the nearest golf course. Please wish him well.

  • Anthony Poe Jr. Anthony Poe Jr., son of Michelle and Anthony Poe Sr., grandson of Marian

    Parish graduated Elementary School. He finished the year strong with 5B’s

    and 1A. He received an award for being on the B honor roll from second grade

    through fifth grade. He also received and attendance award for perfect

    attendance from kindergarten through fifth grade. Anthony finished his second

    year of football and made the All-Star team at running back and wide receiver.

    He was named Homecoming King and he finished the year scoring a total of

    19 touchdowns. Anthony has been a great student and an even better son.

    Anthony and Michelle could not have asked for a better blessing.

    Ashley Cropp Ashley Cropp, daughter of Gwen Cropp and Granddaughter of Ronald

    Roberts. Sr. (deceased), great granddaughter of Elizabeth “Red” Jackson Pruitt and great-great granddaughter of Anna Anderson Jackson had an op-portunity of being able to participate in an episode of Family Feud with Steve

    Harvey. She said while she was sad they did not win, it was an amazing expe-

    rience and loads of fun.

    Renee (Roberts) Taylor & Family Renee (Roberts) Taylor, daughter of Ronnie Roberts Sr., granddaughter of

    Elizabeth “Red” Jackson Pruitt and great-granddaughter of Anna Anderson

    Jackson

    Anthony has endured 30 years of marriage to Renee and uses his skill of

    rebuilding houses and other building types to “hammer” his frustrations

    away…in love!

    Sean, son of Renee, started his Cadet Program with the Southfield

    (Michigan) Police Department and will complete his degree in criminal

    justice at Ferris State Michigan in May of 2020. Sean is also set on

    monetizing his skill of restoring cars that he picked up from his father,

    Anthony.

    Tracey, daughter of Renee, has “enjoyed” 5 years of marriage to Richey

    Madison, a world-renowned architect. After a plethora of career moves

    and jobs, she began her new position this year with Metagenics in Aliso

    Viejo, CA; Tracey and Richey traveled to Costa Rica this year.

    Fortunately for Richey, Tracey did not find a job there.

  • Ronald “Ronnie” Roberts Jr. & Family …continued

    Ronnie Roberts, Jr. is the son of Ronnie Roberts, Sr. (deceased), grandson of

    Elizabeth “Red” Jackson Pruitt and great-grandson of Anna Anderson

    Jackson formed a boutique real estate development and investment firm after

    over 20 years a senior executive with multinational, institutional development

    firms. This July he completed his 7th trip to Kenya in less than a year on what

    started out as a trade mission and has turned into a compelling business

    opportunity. Wakanda Forever!!

    Myisha Roberts, has still not assassinated Ronnie Jr. after several at-

    tempts. She began a new position with Washington University and is

    back on track with completing her PhD. from UCLA.

    The sons of Ronnie Jr. and Myisha are Adisa Roberts, Asa Roberts and

    Amari Roberts completed the 9th, 3rd and 1st grade respectfully and inde-

    pendent schools costing grip. The parents of these lovely boys will

    accept request for adoption to the highest bidders. LOL!

    Adisa Roberts played varsity football and basketball as a freshman.

    He also played trumpet in concert and jazz band.

    Asa Roberts was chosen as captain of his AAU basketball team where

    they have competed at high levels and won numerous tournaments.

    He also played co-lead in an original school production and placed 3rd

    in the school spelling bee.

    Amari Roberts served as captain of his junior football league team where

    they won the Super Bowl for the state of Missouri and he also earned

    status of MVP of the game. He also won the school chess tournament

    for 1st and 2nd grade.

    Monique Montgomery Monique Montgomery is the daughter of Richard Pruitt and granddaughter of

    Elizabeth “Red” Pruitt. After being in the Healthcare industry for over 18 plus

    years Monique decided to open her own healthcare business. Monique

    currently is the sole owner of Homestead Healthcare. Homestead Healthcare

    is dedicated to providing a wide variety of high quality, home health care

    services to the people of the Greater St. Louis area. Monique is passionate

    about the quality of care that is provided to the sick and elderly. If you live in

    the St. Louis Area and know someone in need of quality home healthcare

    Nya Prescott Nya Prescott is the daughter of Monique Montgomery, granddaughter of

    Richard Pruitt. Nya graduated in May from Trinity Catholic School in

    St. Louis, Missouri. She will be attending Xavier University, in New

    Orleans, LA in the fall. Nya had the support of many family members at her

    graduation. We are all proud of Nya and wish her a prosperous freshman year at Xavier.

  • Jaire Pruitt Jaire Pruitt is the daughter of Renais and Jennifer Pruitt, and the granddaughter

    of Lois Pruitt. Jaire graduated from high school this year. She received an

    award for excellence in academics. She is currently enrolled in college

    pursuing a degree in culinary bakery arts. She aspires to open her own

    bakery/pastry pop up shop.

    Kameshia Bryd Kameshia Bryd is the granddaughter of Lois Pruitt, Ashtyn, Ryan & Maxx are

    the great granddaughters of Lois Pruitt. Ashtyn Rose recently graduated from

    Kindergarten and she received the Marvelous Mathematician award for

    strength, problem solving and logical reasoning. Ryan recently completed a

    320 hours cosmetology program, where she has become LICENSED to per-

    form Eye lash extensions. She will going into her senior year of high school

    this fall where she’ll be enrolled in the dual credit program. Maxx has taken on

    a passion for artist expression. She recently started her own business painting

    canvases, sneakers, clothing, and styling natural hair for herself & her peers.

    Andrea Pruitt Andrea Pruitt is the daughter of Lois Pruitt. Life is not accustom to familiarity,

    it is adventurous. Working in the mortgage industry has taught me to never

    grow complacent and prepare for change. I have enjoyed getting to know new

    people as my career has led me to different companies. I particularly enjoyed

    helping family members understand the terms of their mortgage policy. I have

    also taken time to travel. My friend and I have visited some wonderful places.

    I can't wait to see what my next opportunity holds!

    Cecil & Carla Shy & Family Carla Shy, daughter of Lois Pruitt. Cecil and Carla will be celebrating their

    30th anniversary August 19th 2019. They have eight children and two beautiful

    grandsons. They recently graduated child number 7 from homeschool! They

    have one more child/student to graduate, then the doors of Kids of Tomorrow

    Homeschool will be closed! With far less responsibilities, she can now jump

    into some tennis lessons - Yay!

    Cecil Jr. recently received his Doctorate in Mechanical & Aerospace

    Engineering from Mizzou, May 2019. He works for NASA in the Robotics

    department and his name has been added to the wall of inventors as one of the

    designers for Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) He is

    engaged to Dr. Ashley McNeil and they have a beautiful son, Cecil Shy III

    who is walking, running, talking, and learning his phonics cards.

    Kiana is continuing to grow in her dream job - becoming a registered Nurse!

    Since the age of seven she has been nursing us all back to health! She will be

    returning to school to pursue her masters in the near future. Kiana has

    thoroughly enjoyed being a travel nurse during summer months. Her new

    found love is traveling.

    Karmetra is our artsy girl. She landed the position of developing a fine arts

    program for KIPP Voyage Academy, in which she has received many

    accolades for her program. She’s pursuing her masters in 2020 and hopes to

    one day be on the BIG screens!

    Cecil & Carla Shy & Family … continued Kristie, our creative one, will be graduating from Texas Southern University

    in December 2019, with a bachelor’s in education. She has made the

    Presidential Dean’s list with a 3.7 GPA and looks forward to teaching and

    (of course) decorating her classroom. Keaton, her son, is learning how to walk,

    talk, and explore his environment

    Cedric the entertainer, no pun intended, has grown in his musical ability.

    He has performed in local coffee shops and opened concerts for well-known

    singers. He is projected to graduate from Texas A&M December 2020, with a

    degree in Urban Planning. He has traveled more than anyone in the family and

    we still can’t figure out how!

    Kyla, the baby of the family, is also athletic and very bright. She's a late

    bloomer in the dance world; nonetheless, she loves it! She hopes to compete on

    “So You Think You Can Dance" 2024, is an accomplished runner, and has

    won many awards. She occasionally enjoys arts and crafts, and you might even

    find her computer programming in Python!

    Cyrus, our go-to guy, is currently enjoying his role as an Executive Pastoral

    Assistant. He is projected to graduate from the University Houston Clear Lake

    (UHCL) (May 2021) with a degree in Exercise Science. His goal is to have his

    own practice as a Physical Therapist. Cyrus is fond of the guitar and his special

    friend, Victoria J.

    Cymon, the boss athlete of the family, is just beginning his collegiate journey.

    He will attend Prairie View A&M University (Fall 2019) majoring in Electrical

    Engineering. He literally excels in almost any sport and is a quick learner!

    He is the baby boy of the family, and his dad and brothers love to compete

    with him, only to walk away in defeat! He loves to fish, video games, and is

    an avid robotics volunteer.
