INTRODUCTIONTOMOSAICS:SATURDAY6&SUNDAY7APRIL(+extradaytofinishworkMonday8April)Thisworkshopisperfectforeitherthemosaicnewbieorthemosaicwannabe.Startingwithabriefslidelectureprovidinganoverviewofthehistoryofmosaics,wewillendeavortostartandfinishamosaicofeachstudent’schoosing.Themosaicswillbemadeon30x30cmtimberpanels,suitableforinteriorwallinstallationandcanbemadeusingpebbles,glass,marbleorceramic.AllmaterialsexceptsmaltiwillbeprovidedMOSAICCOLOURCONSTRUCTION:SATURDAY30/11&SUNDAY1/12(+extradaytofinishworkMon2/12)Colourconstructionisaveryimportantbutlittleexploredareaofmosaicpractice,andthisworkshopisdesignedtoenhanceourunderstandingofhowcolourworksandwhy.Asmosaicistsweneedtodomorethansimplyapplystandardcolourtheoryprinciplesinourwork,butconsidercolourconstructionasameanstomaximizeandattimes compensate for this uniquemedium that also possesses light refraction and particular 3-dimensionalqualities.Thisworkshopisidealfortheexperiencedmosaicist.Allmaterialsexceptsmaltiwillbeprovided.WHITEONWHITEMOSAICS:SATURDAY21&SUNDAY22SEPTEMBER(+extradaytofinishworkMon23Sept)Removingallconsiderationsofcolourfrommosaicleavesuswiththepotentialforexpressiverenderingusing:shadow (with differing tesserae heights or an undulating substrate), colouring of the interstice, advancedandamento and exploration of nuanced tones in white. This workshop will explore how to maximize suchmonochromaticsubtletiestocreatemosaicswithshiftingfieldsofvisualfocus.Thisworkshopisidealfortheexperiencedmosaicist.Allmaterialsexceptsmaltiwillbeprovided.
