Balmain Public School Goes to the Regional Spelling Bee!

TristanOn Monday, 9/9/19, I was at the Spelling Bee Regionals. I had to verse about 19 other schools and there were 38 people. Overall, I came in the top twelve. Marco made it to the Regionals too. He made it to the top 5. I got out on sequester which I spelt sequestor, which is a common mistake. Marco got out on discreet, which I’m pretty sure he spelt discrit. I was really nervous at the start, that I kept on swinging my legs around. As the competition went on, I got less and less nervous. The winner was a boy named Darius, who also won the public speaking.

At the start, there was a practise round. It was lucky because someone got deer wrong. At the end, there were unseen words, which is why Marco got discreet wrong. I was pretty confident when spelling sequester. I actually thought it was spelt sequestor, but it turned out it was wrong. I had a lot of fun spelling and watching people spell words. I hope I can make it into the Spelling Bee next year.

MarcoI was feeling very tense and I felt as if I was on a rollercoaster. If all the words were all from the Spelling Bee, I might win. However, some of the words weren’t in the Spelling Bee. I came 4th, as I got a word wrong, which I didn’t know which was discreet. It was pretty close to the scores and I felt pretty good.

ClemOn Monday 9th September, the Regional Spelling Bee finalists gathered at Glebe Public School to compete in a Spelling Bee. Everyone was nervous, but they all tried their best. The competition started and we went through the levels of spelling, supplied by the Macquarie English Dictionary. The words started getting harder and people started getting words wrong, but at the end of the day, everyone was proud of themselves for getting there. Representing the school made all the Balmain students who progressed, proud of themselves, including me.

AriaForty students from twenty different schools showed up at the Regional Spelling Bee. The competition went on through many difficult levels, and people dropped out more and more frequently. Eventually, we moved past level 6, and we had to start spelling the unseen words. Although at the end of the day, we were left with only one winner, everybody put in a great amount of effort and certainly deserved to be there. Representing the school was an achievement in itself, anyway. I speak for all representatives of Balmain when I say we were all immensely proud to have such an honour.
