Bachelor of Fine Arts - New Media

Explore, study and create using a wide range of technologies and techniques with courses in graphic design, web design and development, interaction design, 3D modelling, animation, video game design and development, screenwriting, cinema production and studies, and new media theory. You can also focus on one of three concentrations in your degree: web and graphic design, animation and gaming, or cinema production. Senior students choose between advanced studio, in which they undertake a self-directed project, or an industry internship placement close to home or around the world.

Bachelor of Health Sciences - Aboriginal Health

This exciting program examines the factors that contribute to Indigenous health, strength and resilience in Canada and around the world. Students receive theoretical knowledge of Indigenous health concepts and learn how to build healthy communities, prevent disease, create and evaluate health programs and conduct health research. Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in a community setting by engaging in a practicum in partnership with rural and urban Indigenous communities.

Bachelor of Health Sciences - Public Health

Become part of a fast-growing field dedicated to promoting and protecting the health of Canadians and populations across the globe by preventing chronic and infectious disease before it occurs. Gain practical knowledge of designing and implementing programs that promote health, collecting and analyzing health data and shaping health policy in Alberta’s only undergraduate degree program in public health.

Bachelor of Music - Music Studio

Explore this performance-intensive learning experience as a singer, instrumentalist or composer. Receive one-on-one instruction from master performing musicians and teachers, attend numerous guest master-classes and have performance opportunities throughout the year. Recitals showcase your development and accomplishments as a growing musician and your experience is enhanced by participation in ensembles. With 24-hour access, the individual practice studios provide you with the freedom to hone your skills on campus.

Dhillon School of Business Living and Learning Community

This exciting opportunity provides students with a guaranteed bed in Housing (application and deadlines apply) and exclusive access to leadership development opportunities, guest speakers, networking events, academic advising, and other student activities — many taking place within residences on campus. We hope to develop additional Faculty living and learning communities in Fall 2019.

Liberal Education List Requirement

General Liberal Education Requirements (GLER) is now the Liberal Education List Requirement (Lib Ed Requirement). The Lib Ed List Requirement ensures that students acquire a breadth of knowledge, encompassing a variety of disciplines, perspectives and theories throughout their degree. This provides a solid foundation for personal and professional development. Over the course of their program, students must complete four courses from each of the following three lists (12 courses in total):

All minors are now available to any student in any degree program, with the exception of minors in Education. Minors in Education are specifically tied to Education degrees. New minors introduced in 2018/19 include:

Something For You: Master of Education Routes

Have you thought about going back to school to get a master’s degree? uLethbridge has three majors for our Master of Education degree: 1. General – intended for practicing educators. 2. Counselling Psychology – provides training for individuals who want to develop professional skills and certification in counselling psychology, and who work within educational, community or private practice settings. 3. Educational Leadership – prepares educators for key school leadership careers.

Canadian High School Admission Requirements

The following are the general admission requirements for applicants presenting credentials from Canadian high schools. Your published (final) Grade 11 grades

1 Quebec: Two complete years may qualify the applicant for advanced credits.2 Saskatchewan: Fransakois/Immersion students may use one of Français Fransakois

A30 or B30 or Français Immersion in combination with either one of the English Language Arts courses. While either of Pre-Calculus 30 or Foundations of Mathematics 30 may be used as an academic course for admission, Pre-Calculus 30

is required as a prerequisite for courses in certain programs.3 Only one course in a particular language will be used for admission purposes,

e.g., in Alberta, only one of French Language Arts 30-1 or French as a Second Language 30-3Y will be used.

Post-Secondary Admission Route

Applicants who have completed six or more transferable term courses atoneormorepost-secondaryinstitutions will be considered as Post-Secondaryapplicants.

To qualify for general admission, Post-Secondary applicants must have an admission average of at least 2.0 on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale, calculated on all transferable courses. Satisfactory completion of certain Alberta high school courses or equivalents is required for admission to some majors. Upon admission, students are assigned transfer credit on a course-by-course basis for eligible post-secondary work. Transfer of credit may serve to reduce the number of courses which must be completed at uLethbridge in order to complete a program of studies. Degree HoldersApplicants who have completed, with satisfactory grades, one or more academic degrees from a recognized university, will be considered for admission to a second degree program at uLethbridge. The declared uLethbridge program/major must be dissimilar from any degree already completed. Second degree program requirements are individualized for each student. Courses completed during a student’s first degree, as well as those completed after, may affect the program content and/or reduce the number of courses required to complete subsequent degrees. Please contact an academic advisor in the appropriate Faculty or School for more information.

Applied and Technology Degrees Applicants presenting applied or technology degrees from recognized colleges or technical institutes in Canada with GPAs of 2.0 or higher on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale will be considered for admission to first degree, undergraduate non-quota programs. These applicants will be considered for admission to quota programs according to their qualifications as transfer students.

Transfer credit will be awarded according to regular uLethbridge procedures and policies, including those pertaining to residency, major and time limits.

Applied and technology degrees are not normally considered to be a basis of admission for second degree or graduate studies programs.

Home School ApplicantsRegardless of their citizenship or residency, home school applicants will be considered according to the curriculum they followed.

For example: A home school applicant who studied Alberta curriculum is expected to meet the requirements of an Alberta high school applicant.

The applicant should challenge the departmental examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. By this means, an applicant will be considered for admission who presents final grades in five distinct subjects.

A high school applicant from British Columbia should challenge the provincial examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. An applicant will be considered for admission who presents final grades in five distinct subjects.

An applicant who presents both a high school diploma and appropriate, satisfactory standardized test scores, either ACT or both SAT I and II, will be considered for general admission.

additional Admission Routes

Non-Matriculated Adult AdmissionApplicants who are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, age 21 years or older, and who do not meet current admission requirements of any other admission route may be considered for Adult Student admission.

Applicants who have completed high school requirements with an admission average of at least 60%, or have a minimum grade of 65% in English 30-1 or 30-2 and passing grades in two other 30-level courses will be considered for admission. For applicants who have not completed high school requirements, a combination of academic credentials, standardized test scores, and evidence of life experiences may be considered.

The applicant is assessed for potential post-secondary success, which is the standard of admission for this route. A resume and letter of intent are required for admission purposes. Additional advice is available from the Admissions Office.

First Nations’ Transition ProgramThe First Nations’ Transition Program (FNTP) is a first-year credit program that provides First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who do not meet the general requirements of the uLethbridge an opportunity to enter into, and succeed at, university. This program provides a solid foundation of core skills in a supportive cohort environment that attends to Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Learning.

It is also open to Indigenous students returning to university after an absence and, as space allows, to those who qualify for general admission but want the supports provided by the cohort.

Successful completion of the FNTP allows students to enter into most uLethbridge programs. Admission is on a case-by-case basis. For more information, contact our FNTP Office at 403-329-2635.

Standardized Test Admission Standardized test admission route applicants who present acceptable ACT (American College Testing) or SAT (Scholastic Academic Test) scores will be considered for general admission. In the case of the SAT, the applicant must present complete SAT scores. Applicants who do not present three SAT subject test scores and who present superior high school records (at least five Grade 12–level courses in academic subjects including English, with a ‘B+’ or higher), will be considered for admission on an individual basis.

Dual AdmissionDual Admission is a specific transfer admission route available for some degree programs open to students enrolled in a dual admission partner institution.

Dual Admission applicants must meet all general admission and program-specific admission requirements in effect at the time of application.

English Language and Writing RequirementsEnglish Language ProficiencyEnglish Language Proficiency (ELP) is a requirement for all applicants. The ELP requirement may be met in a number of ways, including:

• Successful completion of the Advanced Level of uLethbridge’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program

• A score of at least 80 on the iBT, with scores of at least 16 on each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a score of at least 18 on Writing on the most recent official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score, taken within the last two years.

• Most recent official Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score, taken within the last two years, with an overall score of at least 6.0 and at least 6.0 in each band

Spoken English Language ProficiencyIn addition to the English Language Proficiency requirement for uLethbridge undergraduate admission, all applicants to the Faculty of Health Sciences must also meet the Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP) requirement. This additional SELP requirement is essential because students must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, instructors, health care professionals, and the public in a variety of settings to be successful in these programs.

Evidence of Spoken English Language Proficiency must be presented prior to admission and may be shown in a number of ways, including:

• Acceptable evidence of at least six consecutive years of full-time studies in a country and institution in which the primary language is English, including the successful completion of English Language Arts 30-1 or equivalent

• A score of at least 26 on the International Benchmark Test (iBT) Speaking section

• A score of at least 7.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Speaking band

• A score of at least 70 on the the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Speaking sub-test

• A score of at least 3 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) Speaking section

• Current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)

Faculty of Education

Applicants who have not yet completed a recognized university degree must beadmittedtoafive-year(50-course)combined degrees program to earn a Bachelor of Education degree.

Combined degrees programs generally consist of three years of study in the Faculty of Arts & Science, Fine Arts or Dhillon School of Business, and two years of study in the Faculty of Education. Students graduate with two degrees: a BEd in their teaching major and BA, BFA, BMus, BSc, or BMgt in a related discipline.

Students are initially admitted to a pre-Education program and must meet the following minimum qualifications for admission to the Faculty of Education:

• Completion of 14 term courses (48 credit hours). All courses must be graded, with the exception of EDUC 2500.

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale calculated on all courses taken within the term containing the last 14 graded courses (42 credit hours).

• Completion of a minimum number of courses in the teaching subject major. See the applicable section in Combined Degrees of the current uLethbridge Academic Calendar available online at ulethbridge.ca/ross/academic-calendar/pdf.

• A minimum GPA of 2.5 on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale on all graded courses comprising the major, including all transferable courses.

• Credit in Education 2500 – Orientation to Teaching (or equivalent), including a favourable recommendation from the instructor.

Transfer applicants who meet these requirements can be considered for admission directly to the combined degrees program.

CPA BridgingThe Dhillon School of Business, with the support of the Chartered Accountants Education Foundation of Alberta, offers CPA Bridging at both uLethbridge campuses. CPA Bridging helps students transition into a career as a Chartered Professional Accountant with any baccalaureate-degree, no matter the discipline. Students who complete the program will meet the entrance requirements to the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).

About Post-Diploma ProgramsEach post-diploma program is designed to build on the foundation obtained through the applicant’s diploma program, while addressing the needs for core academic skills in the subject area. Post-diploma degree programs are typically 20 term courses in length and are composed of selected courses in the major subject and related disciplines, as well as courses to meet the Liberal Education List Requirement.

General AdmissionHolders of two- or three-year diplomas from recognized institutions, where the program has sufficient academic content and the diploma GPA is 2.0 or higher, will be considered for general admission to a transfer program in the Faculty of Arts & Science, Dhillon School of Business, Health Sciences, or Fine Arts. Please note that GPA criteria will vary for particular programs and are subject to change. All GPAs are expressed on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale.

Applicants with diploma GPAs between 2.0 and 2.49 will be considered on an individual basis. Post-Diploma Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)Applicants with approved two-year college diplomas in computer systems technology or computer information technology programs, and a diploma GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible for admission. Applicants with extensive practical experience in the field and a GPA below 3.0 will be considered individually.

Bachelor of Therapeutic RecreationEnrolment is limited and fulfilment of the minimum academic admission requirements does not guarantee admission. The Faculty of Health Sciences reserves the right of selection of all students for admission and readmission based on admission grade point average. Applicants with an approved degree or diploma will be considered.

Dhillon School of Business

Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management (20 Course)Applicants who have completed an approved diploma in business administration or management with a cumulative program GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management Degree (20 course). Applicants with a diploma GPA below 3.0 may be admitted in the second round of admissions.

Additional transfer credit is not considered for these programs.Note: Some students may be required to extend their programs beyond 20 courses, depending on the diploma completed and the major chosen. Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management (25 Course)An applicant may gain admission to the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management Degree (25 course) program by completing an approved diploma with a cumulative program GPA at or above the 3.0 guaranteed admission. Students should consult with an academic advisor and see ulethbridge.ca/postdiploma for information on specific diplomas.

Note: Only the general management major may be completed in 25 courses. Students in all other majors will require additional courses to complete the requirements of the major.

Student Application Fee

The application fee for admission to an undergraduate program is $100 for applicants with Canadian transcripts and $140 for applicants submitting international transcripts. Subsequent applications for admission to a level of study are assessed an application fee of $25.

Conditional AdmissionConditional admission decisions may be made on the basis of published Grade 11 grades (high school applicants), transcripts and/or mid-term mark statements (for courses in progress) received by the Admission decision document deadline. Applicants offered conditional admission must meet or exceed the admission standards of their program by the final document deadline.

Official Documents

Through ApplyAlberta, applicants authorize uLethbridge to request transcripts on their behalf from Alberta Education and/or participating post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Applicants attending institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province must arrange to have official transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office.

Applicants currently studying at institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province are strongly advised to arrange, at the time of application, for the submission of interim transcripts if required final transcripts are not yet available. Final, official transcripts must be submitted on or before the final document deadline.

Education Combined Degrees Programs

Applicants may not apply directly into the Faculty of Education from high school. Interested applicants should initially apply to a pre-Bachelor of Education Combined Degrees program (pre-BA/BEd, pre-BSc/BEd, pre-BFA/BEd, pre-BMus/BEd, pre-BMgt/BEd).

• Nine-digit uLethbridge student identification number • Information regarding the application for scholarships

Applicants should notify us immediately if their contact information changes. Log on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca), email admissions@uleth.ca, or fax 403-329-5159. We send important information by email so it is important for applicants to check their accounts regularly.

Applicants can check their application status, including required documents, at any time by logging on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca).

Program Planning Guides (PPGs) | The program planning guides list all required courses and include a suggested sequence plan. These guides are available online at ulethbridge.ca/ross/ppgs.

From Application to Registration

An applicant offered admission receives an online offer, followed by a mailed Admission Guide, followed by registration information once it is available.

uLethbridge ID Number | Students need this nine-digit number to log on to the Bridge for the first time and set up their uLethbridge username and password.

Applicants must complete the Confirmation of Admission online, or submit the form with the non-refundable tuition deposit before the expiry date identified in the Offer of Admission.

Students register in courses online, starting on their registration date, using the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca).

ULink

ULink is our student portal. Students will use their campus username and password to log in to ULink as well as many other important tools at uLethbridge, including the Bridge, email, library account and Moodle.

If you need to help a student setup a Campus Login:

They need their nine-digit uLethbridge ID number (from their offer of admission) available.Go to ulink.ulethbridge.ca for login set-up.Follow the steps to select a username, password and security questions.

Expiry Date | Applicants must submit their Confirmation of Admission by the expiry date. If more time is needed, applicants should contact the Admissions Office to determine next steps (admissions@uleth.ca | 403-382-7134).

Confirmation of Admission | Applicants need to confirm online through the Bridge and send this form back to the Admissions Office (signed and dated) to let us know whether or not they plan to attend uLethbridge. If they plan to attend, a $200 tuition deposit MUST accompany this form. Note: This deposit is in addition to the application fee that has already been paid and is non-refundable.

Timeframe | Registration for the fall term typically starts during the end of April. Students who have been offered admission will normally receive registration information from us by email in mid-April. A student can register on or after their assigned date, but earlier registration is better for course selection.

Liberal Education List Requirement | All uLethbridge students must complete the Liberal Education List Requirement. This involves taking at least four courses from three different areas: fine arts and humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The required courses in a student’s program typically fulfill some of this requirement, so the program planning guide, timetable, and uLethbridge Academic Calendar should be used to determine which additional courses should be taken. Refer to the current uLethbridge Calendar at the end of School of Liberal Education for more information. The Academic Calendar is available online (ulethbridge.ca/ross/academic-calendar).

Registration Date | This is the first day students can log on to the Bridge to add courses to their class schedule. Registration continues until the end of the first week of classes.

International Students

All applicants must present qualifications comparable to those of Canadian applicants:

• Applicants with completed, appropriate secondary qualifications from other countries will be considered for High School admission.

• To ensure success in academic study, all applicants, regardless of citizenship or country of origin, must meet the English language proficiency (ELP) requirements through recognized study or a valid standardized test score.

• Studies completed at recognized universities and colleges will be considered for Post-Secondary admission, as appropriate.

• Applicants currently completing courses at Canadian High schools may be considered for early admission on the basis of final Grade 11 grades. For this purpose, the applicant will provide final grades for grade 11 and Grade 12 courses already completed.

On-campus Housing The University of Lethbridge offers a wide variety of on-campus living options, from single rooms to shared apartments.

Students who join us direct from high school or who take less than one year off between high school and university are considered New University students.

New students can apply online to stay in traditional-style dorms in University Hall (UHall), or one-, two- or four-bedroom apartments in Aperture Park. These are fully furnished with a bed (with captain’s storage space), a desk and storage for clothing. Satellite television, wireless internet and all utilities are included. They also include common areas where students can meet up with friends, play video games, watch movies and unwind.

New students living in residence are required to purchase a dining plan, as they may be living away from home for the first time. This ensures first-year students have access to nutritious food with minimal effort.

Housing DeadlinesStudents are advised to apply as early as possible to improve their chances for accommodation. Newly admitted applicants, who apply before April 1, will have their names entered into an accommodation lottery. Approximately 75% of the allocated beds will be randomly selected. The names drawn will be guaranteed accommodation prior to May 15.

Off-campus HousingTo help students who choose to live off campus, uLethbridge maintains an off-campus housing registry that provides a range of off-campus housing opportunities such as room and board, shared suites and apartments available for rent in the Lethbridge area.
