2020-21 School Year Planning Survey In June, YCSD surveyed parents/guardians and TeamYCSD employees as one component of the stakeholder involvement in the planning for the 2020-21 school year. The surveys were administered online from June 24 through June 30. Links to the surveys were sent to families and staff via email through Blackboard, the division’s automated notification system, with reminders shared by schools and the division prior to the survey being closed. The family surveys were sent to the registered email addresses of students enrolled in grades PreK through 11 during the prior school year, with families asked to complete the survey for each child intending to be enrolled for the 2020-21 school year. Overall, the division had a 67% response rate for the family survey, though it is important to note that as more than one parent may have completed the survey for their family, the response rate does not reflect a per pupil response rate. The employee survey, sent to all email addresses entered in the division’s Human Resources database, had a slightly lower response rate of 63%. The following charts and information were pulled from responses to various questions posed in the Family survey and TeamYCSD survey. Family Survey - What is your current comfort level with schools reopening in the fall? 60% of family respondents indicated they were somewhat comfortable or very comfortable with school reopening in the fall at the time the survey was administered. 30% 30% 19% 11% 10% Very comfortable Somewhat comfortable Somewhat uncomfortable Very uncomfortable Students should not return to school until there is a vaccine and/or treatment

TeamYCSD - What is your current comfort level with returning to your workplace, as schools and offices reopen, for the FY21 fiscal year? 57% of employee respondents indicated they were somewhat comfortable or very comfortable with returning to their workplace, as scheduled between July and September 2020, at the time the survey was administered.

Many factors are important when we reopen schools and buildings. Please select your top three priorities regarding safety practices in regards to returning to your workplace. Both families and employees identified frequent cleaning and the availability of cleaning supplies as top priorities, followed by daily health screenings and social distancing protocols. Only the TeamYCSD survey included the criteria for meetings.

Employees were also asked what, if any, factors would affect their return to work as scheduled. 46% of employees indicated that there were no factors that would affect their return to work. As respondents could select “all that apply,” the response rate exceeds 100%.

What learning model would you most prefer for your child/students when the 2020-21 school year begins? As indicated by the chart below, daily classroom instruction received the most responses as the preferred learning model by both families (51%) and employees (38%) at the time the survey was administered.

*The Family survey also provided the option to select “I plan to Homeschool next year.” Less than one percent of respondents selected that option.

Considering your experience with emergency learning implemented in the spring, where would you like to see improvements if hybrid learning and/or remote learning occur during the 2020-21 school year? (select all that apply) The three greatest areas where families and staff would like to see improvements for either hybrid or remote learning included live meetings/lessons, environments that model traditional school as much as possible, and flexible but engaging/challenging instruction.

What are your concerns with a hybrid learning model or a remote online learning? (Select all that apply) The two greatest concerns, for both families and employees, regarding hybrid or remote learning were students falling behind (academically) and losing connections with classmates and staff. The family survey included two options that were not part of the employee survey.

Both the Family Survey and the TeamYCSD survey also allowed respondents to provide additional input or feedback not addressed in the survey questions. The Family survey received 1,781 comments while the TeamYCSD survey received 341 comments.
