Saturday Vigil 5:00 PM and Sundays 8:00, 10:00, and 11:30 AM

I greet the English-speaking faithful joining us through the media. Dear brothers and sisters in the United States, I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr George Floyd. My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism

and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. At the same time, we have to recognize that “the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost”. Today I join the Church in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and in the en-tire United States, in praying for the repose of the soul of George Floyd and of all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism. Let us pray for the consolation of their grieving families and friends and let us implore the national reconciliation and peace for which we yearn. May Our Lady of Gua-dalupe, Mother of America, intercede for all those who work for peace and justice in your land and throughout the world.

May God bless all of you and your families. ~ Pope Francis

PRAY: Jesus, thank you for sharing yourself with us in the Eucharist. Help us to share with others as you share with us. Help us always to remember that by sharing with others we make friends. Amen. THINK: What kind of bread does Jesus say he will give? Where does this living bread come from? What will this bread do for those who eat it? What else does Jesus say about this bread? What do you t you think Je-sus is talking about? ACT: If there are children in your family who have al-ready celebrated their First Holy Communion, invite them to share their memories of this special day. If there are family photos taken on this occasion, bring them out and share them together. Then read together today’s Gospel, John 6:51-58. Reflect together on what Jesus means when he calls himself the “living bread”. Perhaps family members can share what it means for them to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

Liturgy Notes Today we celebrate the great Feast of Corpus Christi. This feast was established in the 13th century by Pope Urban IV. Unlike most Feast Days in the Church, this one does not commemorate a specif-ic event in Jesus’s life. Until Vatican II, this was always celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. The reason being, it was a marking point to when the Church commemorates the Institution of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday. Both days, of course, were on a Thursday and both celebrations were about the Eucharist. Pope Urban IV commissioned Thomas Aquinas to write music cen-tering around the Eucharist. St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) was a Dominican Friar, Italian philosopher, theologian as well as a Doc-tor of the Church. He was responsible for writing the texts to the well known hymns we use at Benediction of the Blessed Sacra-ment. Today, at the 10 AM Solemn Mass, we will hear a work of J.A. Korman titled “Mass of the Blessed Sacrament”. The text is in Latin and three (3) movements will be sung from it, namely the “Kyrie Eleison”, “Sanctus & Benedictus” and “Angus Dei”. Many parishioners should find this familiar. The “Gloria in Excelsis” will be sung in chant mode to add to the Solemnity of this most im-portant day. A setting of “Ave Verum Corpus” will be sung com-posed by Sir Edward William Elgar (1857-1934) as well as some familiar, festive hymns. ~Ray Murphy, Music Director

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most popular Catholic devotions. Although it was beloved in previous centuries Jesus ap-peared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673, showing her a vision of the now-famous image of His Sacred Heart, surrounded by flames. He said to her: “My Heart is so full of love for men that It can no longer contain the flames of Its burning live. I must discover to men the treas-ures of My Heart and save them from perdition. “She was given the special mission to spread de-votion to His Sacred Heart throughout the Church. Jesus gave St. Margaret Mary many promises associated with this devotion, and re-quested that a feast day in honor of His Sacred Heart bee instituted on the Friday after the Oc-tave of Corpus Christi.
