Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA™) Awards Trey Spencer Memorial Scholarship

Scholastic 3-D Archery awarded the Trey Spencer Memorial Scholarship at the 2019 S3DA™ 3-D Nationals in Metropolis, Illinois on July 13th, 2019. The awards were given to six deserving high school students (3 female and 3 male) from across the country with various amounts.

Roger “Trey” Spencer, 20, son of Roger “Buzz” and Debbie Spencer, was born and raised in Logansport, Indiana, along with his sister Marla. Trey was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, as well as shooting 3-D archery. Trey worked alongside his dad to see that the Scholastic 3-D Archery program finally came to fruition in his local school even though he had already moved on to college. Trey loved being able to travel with his dad and was proud to be part of the ASA Advisory Staff and family during the 2015 season. Trey died tragically on August 31st, 2015 due to injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident while traveling home from college just one week after returning home from the Classic. The Trey Spencer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2016. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to deserving individuals enrolling in undergraduate studies in community colleges, colleges or universities who are active in both S3DA™ and ASA.

The Scholastic 3-D Archery program, started in 2012, is a non-profit organization that is changing the face of youth archery across the country. Since our inception, we have went from being active in just three states to being active in nearly every state in the US and we are now expanding outside our borders! Our program, simply put, is a “next-step” from NASP, 4-H and the Boy and Girl Scouts archery programs. S3DA™ assists in transitioning youth archers from entry-level programs into more advanced target archery, bowhunting, conservation and a lifetime in the outdoors. Unlike other youth archery programs, we have standardized the tournament format rather than the equipment thereby eliminating equipment exclusivity. Our program provides a natural progression from elementary school thru high school. Archers then have the opportunity to go on to compete in collegiate-level archery. The S3DA™ program is unique in that it is NOT an in-school initiative. Our clubs can be hosted by municipalities, parks, archery ranges, archery shops, churches and after-school clubs.

YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE! Help us grow 3-D, target archery andbowhunting in your community by joining a current S3DA™ club/team or becoming an S3DA™ Instructor and creating your own S3DA™ club/team today!Visit www.s3da.org for more information.
