FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles have an all-time ACC record of 133-78-25.

Florida State is 111-32-19 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 66-10-6 against league opponents at home and 45-22-13 on the road.

FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 11 times (2005-10, 2012-15, 2019) over the last 15 years, claiming five regular season titles (2009, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020).

HOME SWEET HOMEFlorida State is 170-15-9 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

The Noles are 102-7-6 in their last 115 matches played at home, dating back to 2011. FSU has 36 wins over ranked opponents over that time.

ROAD SWEET ROADThe Seminoles are also impressive away from the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex, posting a true road record of 39-15-8 since 2013, as well as a neutral site mark of 16-5-2.

FSU has lost just 15 times in its last 57 road games - including 12 one-goal matches with eight against ranked teams.

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome 6 newcomers to the squad in 2020. The six freshmen hail from four different countries. The United States (Cristina Roque, Lauren Flynn and Kaitlyn Zipay), Sweden (Linn Bogren), Japan (Ran Iwai) and Jamaica (Jody Brown).

Three different Seminoles freshmen have started (Roque/Zipay/Flynn) with three more contributing off of the bench.

Zipay recorded her first point as a Seminole in FSU’s 4-3 win over No. 11 Virginia when she assisted on Florida State’s first goal by LeiLanni Nesbeth.

Jody Brown is tied for the team lead in goals scored with four. She scored in her first game as a Seminole against Notre Dame and then again against Virginia Tech in the third game of the season. She earned her first assist against Pitt.

In the regular season finale Brown went off scoring the games only two goals in FSU’s 2-0 win over No. 3 Clemson. Brown was also the second youngest player (17 years old) to play in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

BENCH SCORING The Seminoles showed firepower coming off the bench with 11 out of their 27 goals on the season coming from non starters.

Coming in with fresh legs 15+ minutes into the first half, Yujie Zhao and Jenna Nighswonger have shown their talent combining for six goals (Zhao - 3, Nighswonger - 3) and seven assists (Nighswonger - 4, Zhao - 3). Freshmen Jody Brown proved why she was such a highly touted recruit as well, getting a goal in her first game in the Garnet and Gold and her second against Virginia Tech. Brown scored two against No. 3 Clemson. Iwai and Flynn round out the bench scoring with a goal (Iwai) and an assist (Flynn).

CLARA ROBBINS MAKING AN IMPACTCoach Krikorian’s standout in the preseason and most consistent player all season, Clara Robbins finally found the back of the net against No. 11 Virginia. She scored two goals against the Cavaliers and they were the first two goals of her career for the redshirt senior. she scored the games second goal against Notre Dame in the ACC Quarterfinal on a rocket from 20 yards out into the right side of the net. Robbins also has three assists on the season and is second on the team in points. After her performance against Virginia, Robbins was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

MADRIL’S RETURNAfter missing the last two season due to knee injuries, Emily Madril found the back of the goal in her first game back.

The center back played all 90 minutes in her first game back since 2017 and scored her second career goal and first since October 5 of her freshman season.

Through eight games Madril has played every minute and has scored two goals.

IMPACT FRESHMENFlorida State has started three freshmen and played five during the 2020 regular season.

Cristina Roque became the second true freshman to start in goal for Mark Krikorian and first since Erin McNulty did in 2007. The last two redshirt freshmen to start in goal

32020 FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE SOCCER • 2014 & 2018 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

NESBETH MAKING THE MOST OF STARTINGAfter only playing in 12 games a season ago, all off the bench, LeiLanni Nesbeth has made the most of her opportunity this season, starting in each of the Seminoles first four games.

Through 9 games, she is tied for the team lead in goals with four. She has taken 14 shots in 324 minutes played with eight of those on target.

SHOOTING GALLERYFlorida State has an unprecedented shot advantage over their opponents, as the Seminoles have out-shot their opponents 161-27. Florida State has put 72 of those 161 shots on goal (.447) as their opponents have had 14 of their 27 shots on goal. All of this has lead to a 27-4 goal advantage for Florida State.

NATIONS LEADING OFFENSEWith 27 goals through the first 9 games of the season, the Florida State offense has been unstoppable.

Florida State broke their previous record of 21 goals scored in the team’s first eight conference games. The 25 goals are good for the third most in ACC play with only eight games played this season. The programs most was 28 in a 10 game ACC regular season in 2008.

Including this year’s ACC Tournament the Seminoles have score 27 goals against ACC opponents in nine games, three more than any year prior.

Those 27 goals have been scored by nine different players, with Lynch and Madril scoring two goals each and Zhao, Howell, Robbins and Nighswonger all having three goals each. Brown and Nesbeth lead the team in goals scored with four goals a piece.

11 of FSU’s 27 goals have been scored from players coming off of the bench.

Florida State leads the country in points per game with 7.89 and scoring offense with 3.00 goals/game.

history.

PERFECT ACC SEASONFlorida State finished their ACC regular season schedule a perfect 8-0. This is just the first time in program history the Seminoles finished the ACC regular season without a blemish to their record and second time they finished without a loss.

ALL SEASON DOMINANCEFlorida State is off to one of its best seasons in program history. Through the first 9 games of the season, the Seminoles have out-scored their opponents 27-4 and have out-shot their opponents 161-27.

Florida State leads the country in scoring offense (3.0) and is 5th in scoring defense (0.444).

Florida State started the season with four straight shutouts, good for the second longest streak to start a season in program history.

HOT START TO THE SEASONFlorida State finished the regular season unbeaten through eight matches. This is the third time in program history that the Noles have not lost a match through nine games. All three times, FSU went on to either win the ACC Tournament or ACC regular season.

in the season opener (Cassie Miller - 2014 and Brooke Bollinger - 2018) helped lead the Seminoles to the ACC Championship game and those teams eventually went on to the National Championship.

Jody Brown showed the country what she could do in the opener, scoring in her first career collegiate game. Brown stayed hot in the Seminoles third game of the season, tying the team lead in goals scored with her second of the season against Virginia Tech.

She had arguably her best game yet in the garnet and gold against No. 3 Clemson as she scored the games only two goals, helping FSU cap off its first perfect ACC regular season.

Brown has taken 14 shots through 9 games with 9 of those shots on frame. Brown earned her first career assist against Pitt.

Zipay has started every game this season for the Noles and has played 326 minutes. She earned her first assist against No. 11 Virginia.

ONE OF THE NATION’S BEST DEFENSES Eight games into the 2020 season the Florida State defense has been almost impenetrable, only allowing 27 shots. The Seminole back line led by Malia Berkely, Emily Madril, Gabby Carle and Kirsten Pavlisko combine for 14 years of experience as they help protect freshman goalkeeper Cristina Roque. The group has combined to play 241 games in their time at Florida State.

Florida Sate is 5th in the country in GAA with a 0.444 GAA.

The back line has some offensive threat to it as well as they have combined for 10 career goals and 31 career assists. In 2020 they have combined for two goals (Madril) and one assist (Berkely).

With shutouts in the first four games of the season, the Seminoles had shutout their first four opponents for just the second time in program history.

With four straight shutouts to start ACC play, Florida State had shutout out their first four conference foes for the third time in program

Jaelin Howell is one of four collegiate and 27 players invited to the US Women’s National Team Camp Oct. 18-28.

In her redshirt senior season, Malia Berkely has been a mainstay in the Florida State lineup on the back line. Berkely has started in all 82 games she has played in and has only missed 28 minutes of action during the past two seasons.

Berkely has helped anchor a back line that has recorded 48 shutouts in her four seasons on the pitch.

She is also a threat on the offensive side of the ball, recording four goals and 14 assists during the past four seasons as she is threat anytime she dribbles the ball up the field.

The 2019 season placed Berkely amongst the FSU greats as she was named a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Berkely has helped lead one of the nation’s best defenses in 2020 from her center back position. The Seminoles have only allowed four goals through the first nine games of the season and have only allowed 27 shots, 14 on goal.

She continued to show that she is not just a defender as she recorded her 15th career assist in the Seminole’s season opener against Notre Dame.

MALIA BERKELY

In 16 seasons under head coach Mark Krikorian, the Seminoles have been a force on the defensive side of the ball, allowing well under a goal per game in 381 games.

The Seminoles have also recorded 215 shutouts, good for shutouts in over half the games played under Krikorian. Florida State has earned a shutout in over 75 percent of their wins in the past 16 seasons.

Since Mike Bristol joined Mark Krikorian’s staff in 2009 the Seminoles have averaged a .69 GAA in 11 seasons. In those 11 season, the Seminoles have averaged 14 shutouts a season, reaching double-digit shutouts in 10 of his 11 seasons.

Krikorian and Bristol’s defense was on full display during the 2014 National Championship run, when the Seminoles outscored their opponents 70-9 throughout the season. Florida State set an NCAA Record with 19 shutouts and a school record with a GAA of .34. FSU only allowed 2 goals in ACC play and finished the season with a 24-1-1 record.

In 2016 they did it once again, allowing a program low nine goals in a season. FSU finished the season with 12 shutouts, while allowing under half a goal per games.

Florida State’s magnificent defense was on display once again during their 2018 National Championship run. The Seminoles allowed just 13 goals on their way to yet another 20 win season. FSU started the season off holding their opponent off the scoreboard for the first five games of the season. Florida State would go on to do that 11 more times on their way to 16 shutouts in 2018. The Seminole defense was in full force during the NCAA Tournament, recording four shutouts in five games, including the final three of the NCAA Tournament with shutout wins over the three previous national champions.

2020 looks a lot like years past as the Seminoles have recorded shutouts in seven of their first nine games, out-shooting their opponents by a combined 161-27. FSU has only allowed 14 shots on goal in nine games.

Through nine games, Florida State has one of the nation’s best defense, recording a 0.44 GAA.

This season the Seminoles shutout their first four opponents for only the second time in program history and their first four ACC opponents for the third time in program history.

The junior from Lone Tree, Colorado has raked in the honors since first stepping on campus in 2018. As a freshman, she was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team and Second Team All-ACC. Making an impact in the Seminole’s 2018 National Championship run as a freshman, Howell was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team and was named the College Cup Most Outstanding Player on Defense.

Her sophomore campaign was not much different, earning All-ACC First Team honors and Second Team All-Region honors.

Howell is an aerial threat winning balls in the midfield and on set pieces, proving that

when she headed in her first goal of the season against Virginia Tech on a corner kick and again against Notre

Dame in the ACC quarterfinal. In three seasons she has earned 9 goals and 8 assists, while helping to lead the Seminoles to 46 wins in just over two seasons.

Howell has helped lead one of the nation’s

best defense in 2020 from her holding midfield position. The Seminoles have only allowed four goals through the first eight games of the season and have only allowed 27 shots, 14 on goal.

On October 8th it was announced that

An artist with the ball is what many call Yujie Zhao. In her first three season at Florida State, Zhao has accounted for 44 points (15 goals and 14 assists)

As a freshman, Yujie was a force to be reckoned with, scoring seven goals (second most on the team) and recording five more assists (third on the team) on her way to helping the Seminole earn their second National Championship.

Her performance as a freshman helped her to earn All-ACC First Team honors and paced her on the United Soccer Coaches All-American Second Team. That was not it, Zhao was named TopDrawerSoccer’s National Freshman of the Year

Zhao backed that up with an impressive sophomore campaign. She finished her season tied for third on the team with five goals and second with six assists. On her way to her second First Team All-ACC honor.

Zhao’s creativity not only makes her better but helps out the entire team as it opens up windows for her teammates to get looks on goal.

In Zhao’s three seasons in Tallahassee, the Seminoles have

score 128 goals while recording 107 assists.

Zhao has started off 2020 on fire, scoring two goals in just

three shots in the opener against Notre Dame as she came in off the bench and played 67 Minutes. Zhao is tied for second on the team in goals with three goals in 391 minutes off of the bench. Zhao earned her first assist of 2020 on a corner kick against No. 11 Virginia. She earned her second assist with 12 seconds left against No. 5 Duke in FSU’s 1-0

win. Zhao’s third assist came against No. 3

Clemson on a perfect pass over the top of the Tiger

defense to Jody Brown.
