L REPORT

2020 A YEAR TO MATUREIn January of 2020, Ally & I gathered the Hope is Alive team for an All Staff Retreat in Central Oklahoma. We taught about our values, implemented changes & introduced our theme for the year 2020. After a year of explosive growth in 2019, we both believed it was time for a season of foundation building, creating new systems and preparing the organization for future seasons of growth.

With that in mind, we landed on the word of the year, MATURE. We had no idea, just how much maturing the year would force us to do!

This incredibly challenging year taught us to rely on each other more than any year before. It taught us the importance of effective communication, both internally & externally. We learned our program could be implemented via video teaching (if necessary). We practiced extreme financial restraint & realized we could get by, spending less! We watched as new leaders emerged, who would help guide us into the future. But most importantly, we were blessed to help hundreds of people step out of a life of addiction and into a life of freedom!

By practicing our core value of resiliency, we fought through months of not seeing one another face to face. Our homes and support groups, being forced virtual and the real threat that we might have to change the core of what we do.

The grit we developed during these days and the creative solutions that emerged, I believe are a true testimony to the incredible people God has brought to the Hope is Alive team. This includes our volunteers, donors, Advisory Boards & Board of Directors. It took the entire HIA Family to survive 2020.

Ultimately, we did. But honestly, I can say we did more than just survive, I believe we came out STRONGER ON THE OTHER SIDE. In the midst of everything we were facing, we served more people than ever before, with better results across the board. We added to our team, when many others were forced to let people go. We built our financial foundation, preparing us properly for the future. We added homes, leaders, systems, assets, support groups, donors, volunteers, church partners and so much more!

Ally & I could not be more proud of how our team performed this year and could not be more thankful to the thousands of people who stood with us during our scariest days. When we needed it most, the HIA Family stepped up and enabled us to move forward, serving our Residents & families with faith, confidence and hope.

To each & every family that gave to HIA in 2020, know this, you were a part of something special and we will never forget how you kept us going! Thank you for investing in Radical Life Change and enabling us to MATURE in 2020!

Because of you, we step into a new year with faith, ready to BATTLE!

With hope,

Founder, Hope Is Alive Ministries

COVID 19 RESPONSELike the rest of the world, Covid 19 hit us by surprise and left us with major decisions on our hands. Here’s how we responded.

From the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic, we found ourselves on the front lines, battling a new wave of addiction like we’d never seen. With triple the requests for help, our homes at max occupancy, yet limited ability to meet in person, we were forced to get creative.

Under Ally’s leadership our Program Team thrived during the heaviest days of the quarantine. Holding Zoom meetings nightly to help the Residents process what was taking place, hosting nightly fun challenges to keep things light & rolling out video curriculum to ensure our Residents were continuing to grow in their recovery.

These pivots & other brilliant solutions served our tribe well. Not only did our Residents grow, but many would tell you that they have fond memories of the quarantine of 2020 and used the time to build a firmer foundation in their recovery.

In April, HIA rolled out a three month rent reduction plan to help offset the financial impact of the pandemic. This decision proved critical in helping dozens of Residents make it through the financial crisis brought on by the pandemic.

PROGRAM UPDATEThe Hope is Alive Mentoring Program reached new heights in 2020!

We had two major focuses this year: to ensure our Mentoring Program could be facilitated anywhere Hope is Alive is called to go and to build leaders within our homes to take us there. We completed this by strategically systematizing the way our residents work through our Mentoring Program with a thirteen week step study in Process Addictions. This tremendous step has allowed our residents, no matter where they are geographically located, to receive the same level of care and find lifelong recovery.

We then launched an internship program so that we are prepared to quickly place fully trained staff members, in any part of the country within a moment’s notice. We met a need for individuals who couldn’t physically move into our homes to still be able to participate in our Program through launching HIA Online and celebrated opening two new homes in Wichita, KS and Kansas City, KS.

We were able to close the year celebrating our goal of reaching 200 residents in our Mentoring Homes and giving away over $200,000 in scholarships this year. We are fully prepared to enter 2021, with experienced staff, a groundbreaking Mentoring Program and agility to move wherever we are called to radically change the lives of drug addicts and alcoholics!

With hope,

SCOTTHIA Online Alumni

Scott spent a year in one of our HIA homes but struggled being away from his wife and children. After receiving a solid foundation for sobriety in a home, he transitioned into the HIA Online program and recently became our first HIA Online graduate.

“HIA Online has allowed me to be back at home with my family but continue to work on the things I struggle with and need growth in, all while having the community and accountability that I enjoyed while living in an HIA home.”

The Covid pandemic forced HIA to be innovative and sparked the launch of HIA Online. During this six month program you will have a community of participants to walk with you, help motivate and keep you accountable. For a variety of reasons, some people are unable to move into a structured sober living program, but still need help. HIA Online is a great solution as it offers participants a full time and gender specific program guide that tailors a program of recovery to their needs. We are already seeing some great results, read about one of them below:

WICHITA WOMEN’S HOMEA new women’s home opened in Wichita in January 2020. At over 5,000 sq ft, this beautiful home as the capacity to serve 15 women. In 2019 we opened 6 homes, rather than continue to expand as quickly, we focused on MATURITY this year and strengthening our foundation. As a result we grew stronger, even during a pandemic.

KANSAS CITY MEN’S HOMEA new men’s home opened in Kansas City in August 2020 and was full within six weeks. We have quickly developed strong partnerships within the community. The home has 13 residents and is thriving. It is doing so well in fact, that one of the 5 new homes we plan to open in 2021 will be a women’s home in the KC area.

ERIC AND BEV TSCHOEPE OKC and WichitaEric and Beverly met and were married 15 years ago. Their future looked bright. Addiction crept into their lives though. They were sure the birth of their two children, Autumn and Johnny, would motivate them to stop using. Unfortunately, it was not enough.

Since coming into Hope is Alive in early 2019, their marriage has been restored and they were BOTH gifted vehicles by two separate generous donors. Today they both get to see their children whenever they want and get to spend holidays together as a family SOBER.

“HIA has shown us what a great life we can have. They’ve radically-changed our lives and have mended our family back together - better than it ever has been.” - Bev

A NEW HOPE

PRENTICE WOKCPrentice was in active addiction for over 22 years. He has been to jail 13 times, been charged with 7 felonies and lost friends and relationships with family along the way. In the midst of this, Prentice received what he calls his “greatest blessing”: His daughter, Emma. Prentice’s final wake up call with addiction came after he rolled a semi truck in and was medi-flighted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Mangled and on the verge of suicide, he reached out for help. After a recommendation from Emma’s mother, Prentice found HIA. He checked into the program in January of 2020. Today, Prentice has over one year sober and a renewed relationship with his daughter. He spent the holidays sober for the first time in 22 years this year and got to do so with his family. Prentice traded desperation for gratitude and hope, like so many in HIA.

“I can’t wait to watch my daughter to grow up and be there for her. I’m so grateful to be at HIA and to have the future to look forward to with her. I’m grateful that God never stops giving second chances.” - Prentice

In 2020, Finding Hope was able to offer HOPE and healing to over 350 members monthly as they attended one of our twenty-three Finding Hope meetings. Finding Hope expanded nationwide from Massachusetts to Texas to Colorado, while also began meeting twice a week online. In addition, Finding Hope kicked off our first ever Spanish speaking meeting.

This year Finding Hope offered five leader training events, giving the opportunity for the ministry to reach more communities. Hope and family restoration was found through Finding Hope in 2020.

ENTS OF 2020

9) Hosted 5 Virtual Events - This year proved to be the year of “going virtual”. Hope is Alive sure lived up to this popular term by hosting five incredible virtual events for our supporters, residents and followers. From the Hope Rally’s during the quarantine to the virtual versions of our annual fundraiser, over 50,000 people tuned in to watch!

8) Opening of the KC Men’s HOME! - HIA home number 19 opened in August 2020. The home holds 13 men and it filled up within 6 weeks. The guys are doing great at this new home and they LOVE living in KC. We are already talking about adding more.

10) Launch Pray 10/10 - In an effort to keep the HIA Residents connected, encouraged and supported our Team launched a new initiative in early April called Pray 10/10. Each day at 10:10, dozens of HIA Residents and Staff join a Zoom call for 10 minutes to share encouragement, prayers requests, and daily inspiration. It’s still happening today!

7) Launch of HIA Online - This new venture has given hope to so many individuals who needed our program, but aren’t able to move into an HIA Home. The curriculum is tailored to the participant and phenomenal. We recently graduated our first person through the program!

6) Car Giveaways - This has been one of the coolest surprises about 2020. Because of the incredible supporters of HIA we’ve been able to give away 9 cars to deserving HIA Residents this year!

4) First Resident celebrates ONE YEAR of Sobriety in Weatherford! - Big shout out to our friends and supporters in Weatherford. They are so sweet, always bringing food, stopping by to say hi, helping out with supplies and it’s paid off. Seeing residents celebrate one year of sobriety is a HUGE accomplishment and shows that the program is working!

5) Baptizing 25 in one weekend - this was an AMAZING weekend! But what’s crazy is we actually ended up baptizing over 50 Hope is Alive Residents in 2020. And this is what’s its all about, watching our residents explode out of the water so excited about this NEW LIFE!

2) First Graduation in North Carolina - Completing the HIA Program is not easy, that’s why we celebrate in a big way. We got to do it for the first time out in Eastern NC! This huge accomplishment is a big milestone for that house and could not have been done without all our friends and supporters in the crystal Coast. We love you guys so much!

1) Reaching 200 Residents! - We’ve been chasing this milestone for a long time, Covid tried to knock us off track, but our staff persisted and in December we reached the incredible milestone! What I love about this one is that it’s truly a team effort.

3) Launch of 18 new Finding Hope Locations - this has been HUGE, we now have Finding Hope Support Groups in over 20 cities, 7 states & online groups in English and Spanish! We’ve seen over 300 people attend Finding Hope Meetings each month in 2020. Finding Hope has exploded this year and we can’t wait to see what communities God will lead us to next.
