In my lifetime, I have certainly not seen the circumstances we have witnessed in these last few weeks in Australia and across the world. Before the stay at home announcement was made, the staff had continued to teach great lessons in the classrooms as we had attempted to allow school to be ‘as normal’ as possible, even though we had cancelled assemblies, etc. The government then decided to restrict students access the school grounds although we remain open for any student who needs to attend. Last week we quickly put together a starter pack which contained some work, pencils and an exercise book. If you run out of supplies and are unable to buy any more, please contact the school. This week a more extensive unit of work was provided for the two weeks leading up to Easter this was able to be accessed online or as a hard copy. It is important that the students complete this work. The staff have also been making phone calls to each household to check that you have the necessary access to applications such as Seesaw and to check on how everyone is coping. The staff have also put together some videos as a different method of communicating with the students. Please contact the school if you require any assistance. Daylight Saving: Just a reminder that Daylight Saving ends this weekend. I rely on the saying “Spring forward, fall back” to remember which way the clocks travel (noting that Americans use the term “fall” for what we call autumn). As we are now in autumn, our clocks need to fall back meaning we turn them back one hour, resulting in an extra hour of sleep. Daylight saving officially ends at 3am on Sunday (5 April) so it is best to change your clocks on Saturday night when you go to bed. Upcoming School Holidays: The upcoming school holidays commence on Friday 10 March (Good Friday) and the students will return on Tuesday 28 April. Monday 27 April is set aside for staff professional learning (staff development day) and is designated as pupil free. Thank you: At the end of next week my time at Claymore Public School will have come to an end and Lisa Porter will return as the substantive principal. I have enjoyed being at Claymore as it is a great school where the students, parents and staff combine to create a wonderful learning environment and awesome ecommunity. I would like to thank everyone for supporting me during this time. Mark Hoppitt Acting Principal

Principal’s Message I am sure you have kept hearing the term “these are unprecedented times”. Before the stay at home announcement was made, the staff had continued to teach great lessons in the classrooms as we had attempted to allow school to be ‘as normal’ as possible, even though we had cancelled assemblies, etc. The government then decided to restrict students access the school grounds – although we remain open for any student who needs to attend. Issue 6 – Term 1 – Week 10 Campbelltown City Council Youth Week 2020 has moved online: For those who may not already know, given the current situation, some of our Youth Week events have been postponed, however we have been working on moving some of our Youth Week activities online, and have everything ready to go for when Youth Week officially starts tomorrow. In partnership with Headspace, we will be running a social media competition over the course of the week, where participants will be showing us they’re tips for keeping busy while staying at home. Full details can be found here - https://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/WhatsOn/YouthWeekSocialMediaCompetition We’ve also been lucky enough to have some of our planned workshops offer to move online, this includes Dungeons & Dragons and Brush Lettering. Registrations for the two workshops will be open during Youth Week, with the materials for each workshop posted to participants. Please see links below for further info: At Home Dungeons & Dragons Training Session - https://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/WhatsOn/DungeonsAndDragonsYouthWeek Private Online Brush Lettering Tutorial - https://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/WhatsOn/BrushLetteringWorkshopYouthWeek Finally, we will be moving our Sunset Sounds – Rock Edition event online by showcasing some of the bands who were due to play at the event. Posts will be made on the Council Facebook page for each band with their bio and links to their social media pages. We’ve been communicating with other business units who have offered to share our Facebook posts on their pages as they go live throughout the week, so please feel free to share with your networks also, we want as many young people involved as possible.
