2020 RECREATIONAL COACHING REQUIREMENTSFOR NEW AND RETURNING COACHES

Thank you for your interest in coaching for EDHSC! Parent volunteers are the backbone of ourclub. We are seeking dedicated parents who will help us to build a love for soccer among the youthin our community. No previous coaching experience is necessary. The main requirements are agreat attitude and a willingness to learn and apply positive coaching techniques.

EDHSC is a member of Cal North Youth Soccer Association, which represents US Youth Soccerin Northern California. Under the direction of Cal North, EDHSC has adopted a Risk Managementpprogram to promote the safety and well-being of all our participants, which is the club’s highestpriority. As such, ALL volunteers MUST complete the below requirements in a timely mannerin order to be eligible to coach for our club. These are provided at no cost to you.

COMPLETE a Live Scan Background Check through Capital Live Scan.Required once by Cal North and the State of California.

ATTEND an in-person or virtual Pre-Season Coaches Meeting provided by EDHSC.Required annually by EDHSC. Time: 60 minutes. Practice equipment distributed afterwards.

READ, E-SIGN & IMPLEMENT the EDHSC Coach Code of Conduct principles and guidelines.Required annually by EDHSC. Completed at the time of online registration.

COMPLETE the PCA Double Goal Coach: Coaching for Winning & Life Lessons online course.Required once by EDHSC. Focus: Positive coaching techniques. Time: 1 hour

COMPLETE the U.S. Soccer Introduction to Grassroots Coaching online course.Required once by EDHSC. Focus: Play, Practice, Play coaching model. Time: 30 minutes

COMPLETE the U.S. Soccer Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments course.Required annually by state law. Focus: Concussion & Cardiac Arrest Training. Time: 30 minutes

COMPLETE the U.S. Center for SafeSport Core Training online course.Required once by federal law. Focus: Abuse Prevention Training. Time: 2 hoursA Refresher course is then required annually. Time: 30 minutes

REGISTER as a volunteer coach in the Sports Connect online registration system.Required annually by Cal North.

US Youth Soccer exists to transform the lives of America’s youth through the game of soccer.EDHSC is dedicated to bringing the El Dorado Hills community together to provide aplayer-centered environment that encourages fun, playing creatively, and sportsmanship whileinstilling a love of soccer among the youth of EDH.

As the backbone of our club, EDHSC Coaches are expected to have a great attitude and awillingness to learn and apply positive coaching techniques. No previous coaching experience isnenecessary. EDHSC prioritizes long-term athletic development over short-term outcomes such aswinning, and a coach’s ultimate goal is to build an environment where players have fun, thriveregardless of skill level, and want to play again next season. The following are additionalexpectations for coaches in our recreational program:

COACHING REQUIREMENTSAll volunteers are expected to diligently complete all coaching requirements in a timelymanner. These requirements are necessary to effect the club’s Risk Management programand ultimately help you to be the best coach possible.

COMMUNICATIONCoaches are expected to communicate openly and positively with players, parents, and othermembers of the club. Consistent positive reinforcement and praise for players, and frequentand clear communication with parents are key to a successful soccer season. Thank you.

PRACTICESCoaches are expected to lead two 60-minute practices or one longer 90-minute practice perweek during the recreational season, which will run from August 3 to October 31, 2020.Practices are to follow the US Soccer Grassroots Curriculum “Play, Practice, Play” model.

GAMESOur recreational season consists of 10 games to be played on Saturdays between August 22and October 31, 2020. Games are generally an hour-long and coaches are expected to leadtheir teams while adhering to the EDHSC Coach Code of Conduct. EDHSC does not keepscores or standings for U10 & Below.

Thank you again for your interest in coaching for EDHSC. In 2019, over 200 parent volunteershelped to coach 1,400 kids in our recreational program. Coaching is a challenging, but veryrewarding experience. EDHSC provides coaching education and guidance so that anyone canvolunteer to coach regardless of soccer experience or knowledge. As a US Youth Soccer memberclub, EDHSC emphasizes fun, playing creatively, and long-term development over winning.

To help our volunteers provide a great player-centered experience for the kids in our community,EDHSC is oEDHSC is offering coaches the following benets in 2020:

COACHING CREDITSHead Coaches and Assistant Coaches will be given up to $150 and $100 in EDHSC Credit,respectively. Credit can be used to lower the following year’s registration cost for their child,purchase club merchandise or equipment, or to pay for EDHSC Camps & Clinics. Credit willbe assigned ONLY to coaches who complete their coaching requirements in a timely manner, and is subject to a sliding scale based on when all requirements are completed.

EQUIPMENTCoaches will be loaned a set of portable soccer goals, pinnies, and cones for practices, alongwith a basic rst aid kit. A coach’s lanyard will also be provided for identication purposes.

COACHING EDUCATIONEDHSC will pay for the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) “Double Goal Coach: Coaching forWinning and Life Lessons” online training. EDHSC is committed to providing all coaches,from beginner to advanced, with best in class coaching education.

PRE-SEASON COACHES MEETINGSEDHSC will organize interactive meetings hosted by the club’s VPs of Recreational Soccer toreview the club’s core values, coaching philosophy, and program updates. Q&A is encouraged.

COACH TRAININGEDHSC Director of Coaching, Joe Champion, and his staff of professional trainers will providein-person training and resources such as practice session plans and videos demonstratingeffective game-like activities for player development.

We know. You’re ready to be a volunteer soccer coach, but now you have a list of things to do to getyou ready for the season. We know that you’d probably rather workout than get through theserequirements. But they’re important and you’ll be a better coach because of them. Many arerequired by law and some we require because we want our club to be really good. Our mission is toinstill a love of soccer in EDH and that starts and ends with you and all our volunteer coaches. So thesooner that you diligently complete these requirements, the sooner we can all get to building abetbetter soccer club together.

Here’s how to complete the requirements, which are provided at no cost to you:

COMPLETE a Live Scan Background Check through Capital Live Scan.Required by Cal North and the State of California.

READ, E-SIGN & IMPLEMENT the EDHSC Coach Code of Conduct principles and guidelines.

REGISTER as a volunteer coach in the Sports Connect online registration system.Required annually by Cal North.

Live Scan and Sports Connect are fully integrated. We highly recommended that the nameused on your Live Scan form matches with the name on your Driver’s License and also used toregister in Sports Connect.

Please request that the Live Scan technician provide you with a copy of the Request for LiveScan Service form after your appointment is complete. Please keep this copy as it is your proofof completion and will be needed to satisfy Requirement 3. More info on page 3 of this guide.

Due to privacy concerns, Cal North does not accept scans that have been completed on behalfof other entities, such as companies, schools, or other sports leagues.

Volunteers who coached for EDHSC between 2017-2019 and remain approved by Cal Northwill not need to rescan in 2020. Volunteers who last coached for EDHSC prior to 2017 mayneed to rescan this year because of recent data migration in Sports Connect.

EDHSC will schedule meetings in July and August. Details TBA.

All volunteer coaches new to EDHSC must attend one of these meetings to receive practiceequipment and be eligible for EDHSC Credit.

For returning coaches, at least one coach from each team, either the Head Coach or theAssistant Coach, must attend one of these meetings to receive practice equipment and beeligible for EDHSC Credit.

These interactive meetings will be led by the club’s VPs of Recreational Soccer and will focuson the club’s core values, coaching philosophy, and program updates. Q&A is encouraged.

Requirements 4, 5, and 6 can all be completed through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center, alearning management system designed to house all U.S. Soccer educational programs.

You will need to create a login to the U.S. Soccer Learning Center. As with Requirements 1 & 2,we recommended that you use the same rst name, last name, and email address, across theseplatforms, as the Learning Center is fully integrated with Sports Connect. EDHSC will useConnect to track the completion status of these requirements.

EDHSC CREDITEDHSC Credit is a small way to say thank you to our coaches. Credit is assigned only to coacheswho complete their coaching requirements in a timely manner, and is subject to a sliding scalebased on when all requirements are completed. Credit for coaching for EDHSC in 2020 can beused in 2021 to pay for registration costs, EDHSC Camps & Clinics, or club merchandise.

RECOMMENDATIONS

We highly recommend that coaches use the name on their Driver’s License when registering inSports Connect, completing a Live Scan, and creating a login to the U.S. Soccer Learning Center.This will prevent any delays in processing as these systems are fully integrated.

The U.S. Soccer Learning Center is a powerful resource for all coaches, from beginner toadvanced. While the club requires coaches to complete the Grassroots Coaching, Safe &Healthy Playing Environments, and SafeSport courses within the Learning Center, there aremany more courses and resources available to further your coaching education.

The club encourages all coaches to be diligent when completing the online courses. Beingattentive and then applying the material during the season will help you to be a more effective,player-centered soccer coach.

We recommend that coaches complete the online courses on desktop computers. We havefound that trying to complete these courses on mobile devices can lead to application errorsand frustrating delays.

Credit Timeline. If Requirements 1-7 are completed in:

May (Early) - Head and Assistant Coaches will receive $150 and $100 in Credit, respectively.June (Regular) - Head and Assistant Coaches will receive $100 and $75 in Credit, respectively.July (Late) - Head and Assistant Coaches will receive $75 and $50 in Credit, respectively.

Coaches must be authorized by EDHSC to supervise children on behalf of the club. EDHSC willonly give authorization to coaches who have completed a minimum of Requirements 1-6. Coaches who complete Requirements 1-8 will be given authorization and be eligible to receiveEDHSC Credit. Coaches who do not complete all requirements will not receive EDHSC Credit. Any decisions on individual situations will be at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors.

Subsequent completion of Requirement 8 (Coaches Meeting) is required to complete the process.

If coaches complete all requirements, but the season is signicantly curtailed and/or canceledbecause of Covid-19, they will receive $25 in EDHSC Credit to be used for future Camps & Clinics.
