June 15 – 19Art in the Dark-Outer Space EditionCost $60 Caitlin GreeneIn this camp we will create artworks that really GLOW! During the week we will explore outer space and create with fluorescent materials. We will create with model magic, paint, collage, and oil pastels. At the end of the week students will take home their own black light flashlight, so they can continue to enjoy their glowing artworks after the camp has ended. 9:30-11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00pmRising 1st – 8th graders; Limit 18 students June 15 – 19Mixed Media MaddnessCost $55 Lydia PowellLove working with felt & fabric? Yarn and beads? This week we will have fun with mixed-medium activities so you can create your own fiber art projects! Animals Down UnderCost $55 Serra ShufordCome take a trip down under! In this camp we will be learning and making art about the endangered animals of Australia. We will be learning to paint a koala bear and a kangaroo, create a crazy, colorful collage of the Great Barrier Reef, and much more! July 6 - 10Nature Art Explorers Cost $55 Caitlin GreeneIn this camp we will use nature to inspire our creations. We will use a variety of textures and art making methods. Students will be inspired by the plants and bugs that are everywhere during the summer. Two special projects will be creating dirt slime and bird feeders during the week! 9:30-11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00pmRising 1st – 8th graders; Limit 18 students

July 6 - 10Weave, Weave, Weave! Cost $55 Megan AllenThis class will be exploring the many different ways to weave! Each class will be exploring another weaving technique, building off of the previous days. Our main focus will be yarn weaving, and will range from simple weaving projects like the Ojo de Dios to the more ad-vanced tapestry weaving, that will be used to help us create a small bag! July 6 - 10It’s All About PaintCost $55 Cindy RobbsThis week is all about painting with everything except paintbrushes! July 13 - 17Batman - Rise of the Art KnightCost $55 Steven PruittHoly Abstract Art Batman! Gotham Channel 6 News is reporting that the criminal mastermind known as the Joker along with several other villains have broken in and taken control of the Gotham Museum of Art! Joker plans to steal some of the world’s most famous works of art and replace them with versions inspired by himself and the other diabolical criminals such as the Cat-woman, the Penguin, and the Riddler. Join the world’s greatest detective, Batman, to solve the case and put a stop to the Joker’s evil plan. This will require some help from the greatest team of superheroes ever to be assembled... The League of Artists! Join the League and assist Bat-man in solving this crime to defeat the joker through the creation of various artworks and crafts. Join us on our trip around the world as we visit different countries every day and explore the artwork we find! Projects will include work from Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and North America! We will discover new areas of the world every day and learn about the art that those places inspire! We will use painting, drawing, and sculpting skills to complete our work. July 13 - 17Exploring the MastersCost $55 Cindy RobbsWe will be inspired by art created by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henry Matisse and Pablo Picasso. We will recreate famous works of art like Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Monet’s Water Lilies, Matisse’s The Flight of Icarus, and many others. Make room on your walls! July 20 - 24Harry Potter and the Secret of the HepaestusCost $55 Steven PruittDeep within the hallowed halls of Hogwarts, beyond the room of requirement, tucked deeply past the chamber of secrets lies a special room that exists on no known map of Hogwarts. Buried within these walls lies a room that contains the key to unlock the secret magic of imagination and creativity known as the room of art. It is here that the impossible becomes possible, the imaginary becomes the reality, and fiction becomes fact. In this magical room you are only bound by how far your imagination and creativity will allow you to travel. The only requirement to gain entrance to this secret room is to join the guild of artists known as The Guild of Hephaestus. Once you’ve joined you will unlock a sorting hat full of new activities waiting for you that will open up a magical world of wonder that few students of Hogwarts have the chance to lay eyes on. July 20 – 24Beginning Woodworking ICost $60 Al DunklemanThis class will focus on the basics of working with wood. Students will learn how to use a sanding block, hammer, nail set, and screwdriver, along with finishing techniques. All materials, tools, safety glasses and dust masks will be provided. Students will not operate any power tools as all projects will be pre cut and pre drilled for gluing and assembling. Projects: Using reclaimed wood, students will make a napkin holder, bird feeder and tool caddy.9:30-11:30 amRising 2nd – 8th graders; Limit 16 students

July 27 –31 Beginning Guitar Cost $55 Al Dunkleman Interested in learning how to play the guitar? In this class you will learn basic acoustic folk/bluegrass/country chording and strumming techniques. You will learn how to hold the guitar, finger chords and hold and use a pick. During this week the goal will be for students to successfully learn and strum a simple two/three chord song individually and as a group. Students must bring their own guitar. 9:30 – 11:30 am Rising 2nd – 8th graders; Limit 16 students

INFORMATION!INSTRUCTORS: Megan Allen, Al Dunkleman, Caitlin Greene, Lydia Powell, Steven Pruitt, Cindy Robbs, Serra Shuford are North Carolina certified teachers and/or active artists.

DISCOUNTS: Families will receive a 10% discount if child is registered weekly for the entire summer.

REGISTRATION: Payment must be made with registration. -->Download the registration form, print it out, fill it out completely and mail with payment to: Cleveland County Arts Council - 111 South Washington Street, Shelby, NC 28150 -->Call 704-484-2787 to register & pay by phone with debit/credit card -->Once COVID-19 state and local social distancing mandates have been lifted, you may register by visiting us in person during our regular hours of operation (Mon. – Friday, 9am – 5:30pm and Satur-day 10am - 2pm).

All classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.Enrollment is limited.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS: The Arts Council reserves the right to cancel a class if a minimum enrollment of 5 is not attained. In such instances, previously paid fees will be fully refunded. Parents who need to withdraw their child/children from any Summer Arts Camp should contact the Arts Council at the earliest time possible. You will receive a refund, less $10 service charge per camp session only when notice is received at least a minimum of four (5) business days before the first class meeting. We will transfer your child to a later session if space is available.

GENERAL INFORMATION:* Students should enter the Arts Center at the Warren Street side of the building, not the front door.* Wear old clothing that can get messy for all classes.
