PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Milton Junior Eagles Cheerleading Program is a volunteer-led Sideline and Competitive Cheerleading program aligned with the Milton Junior Eagles Football Program and feeding to Milton High School’s Sideline and Competition Squads. Our goal is to not only prepare young ladies for the athletic demands and rigor of the High School Program, but to foster Team Spirit, Leadership, and Character Development through the Middle School years.

ORGANIZATION The Program will be managed with a 100% volunteer team of parents. This will include a Board of President, VP, and Treasurer. Committee Chairs will include Communications, Connections, and Spirit Wear. The teams will be managed by 2 Parent Leaders per team and 2 volunteer High School Coaches. All Families not already signed up for one of the volunteer roles mentioned above will be expected to contribute to the program through a minimum of 2 volunteer shifts per season. Shift opportunities will be presented at the beginning of the season.

RULES & GUIDELINES The Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Rules and Guidelines have been set forth to ensure a fun, safe, and equitable environment for your child at all times. Milton Junior Eagles Cheer and Georgia Allstar Cheerleading are committed to careful observation and monitoring of safety measures, including proper stretching, and only allowing stunting and tumbling when a Parent Leader or Coach is present. The Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Program strives to elicit enthusiasm and interest in the sport of cheerleading, while encouraging confidence, and improving each cheerleader’s individual skills and abilities.

GENERAL Maintain enthusiasm and school spirit at all athletic events

Learn all cheers, chants, dance, and halftime routine

Maintain or improve all tumbling skills performed at tryouts

Be prepared for the activity: appropriate attire & equipment, fed, hydrated, own water

No food, including candy and gum, allowed while cheering

No cell phone use, without permission, during practice, game, or competition

Pick up all trash before leaving practice, game, or competition

BEHAVIOR Moving into the Jr Eagles Cheer program is a step up from “Rec League” sideline cheerleading. We follow the

MHS Cheerleading format. If the players are playing, the cheerleaders are on the track cheering, regardless of weather. Snacks will not be consumed during the game, only drinks for hydration. All Quarters, cheerleaders are to be on the track in formation.

Treat all coaches, team parents, and fellow Milton Junior Eagles Cheerleaders with genuine courtesy, kindness, and respect. There will be zero tolerance for cruel or callous behavior, including arguing, bullying, fighting, gossiping, or slander. A Milton Junior Eagles Cheerleader is expected to support and encourage every teammate, thus creating and maintaining a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for all involved.

Cheerleaders must always follow the ‘no fault’ stunting policy: “Never blame your teammates. It takes a team to succeed, and a team to falter.”

Absolutely no alcohol or drug use will be tolerated! This includes smoking, vaping, drinking, or the use of any illicit drugs or controlled substances. Milton Junior Eagles Cheer follows the Fulton County School District’s policy regarding drug and alcohol use. Following any drug or alcohol related school suspension, the cheerleader will forfeit participation in an equal number of practices and/or games, and may be subject to permanent dismissal from the Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Program.

Behave in a positive and respectful manner on social media, email, and text. This includes, but is not limited to, saying/posting/lip-syncing curse words, racial slurs, animal cruelty, sexual messages/innuendos, posting/emailing/texting inappropriate or potentially harmful photos, excessive public displays of affection, inappropriate dress, inappropriate posts/messages on personal page/account or a third-party’s page/account, etc.

SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS A cumulative 2.5 GPA, both on and off-season

Report cards submitted to coach as issued by Fulton County Schools

Failure to provide report card will result in exclusion of all cheer related events

A failing report card grade will result in academic probation, and required meeting with parent(s), coach(s), and/or board member(s)

Continual non-maintenance of grades will result in dismissal from the Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Program

APPEARANCE Have a tidy personal appearance and hygiene at all times.

Wear game day shirt to school every Friday before games .

Dress out in full uniform for every game, including game day bow, cheer shoes with white no-show socks, and sleeves/leggings/gloves/rain jacket (weather dependent).

All Uniform pieces (including Shoes, Jackets and Practice Uniforms) are not to be worn for activities other than Cheer during the cheer season and are to be kept in excellent, stain-free condition. If stained or damaged, please contact the Spirit Wear Chair to purchase replacement.

Midriffs and Undergarments (Bra Straps, etc) are not to be seen peeking out from under clothing.

Wear full designated practice attire in accordance with weekly schedule, including practice bow, cheer shoes with white no-show socks, and leggings (weather dependent).

Keep nails short, well-filed, and free of any colored nail polish or artificial nail materials, including acrylic, gel, silks, etc., as in agreement with GHSA rules

Wear hair in a high/mid ponytail with specified bow to each practice, game, and competition; maintain a classic hairstyle with no unnatural colors, nor any temporary attachments which may present a safety concern, such as feathers, hair rings, beads, or clip-in extensions; special note: permanent/semi-permanent extensions and braids such as tape-in, weave/sew-in, fusion, and microlink are permitted

Jewelry is a safety hazard, and therefore STRICTLY PROHIBITED at practices, games, and competitions. This includes body piercings (even under clothing), nail & hair rings, adorned hair pins, watches and fitness trackers, etc. Taped or hidden jewelry is not acceptable. ATTENDANCE POLICY Milton Junior Eagles Cheer should take priority over all other extracurricular activities.

A single absent cheerleader diminishes or eliminates the entire team’s opportunity to safely practice and perform their skills, particularly relating to their halftime routine, to which they have dedicated significant time, and extraordinary heart, sweat, and teamwork

Cheerleaders must arrive on time (45 min in advance of gametime/ competitions), in full dress, to every practice, game, competition, and event.

Summer Practices are every Monday in May, June, and July and are semi-mandatory; if in town, attendance is expected

Season Practices are Every Monday and Wednesday in August, September, and October and are mandatory

Official GMSAA Schedule will be released in July, until which, we anticipate a regular season game every Saturday in September and October, and a playoff game every Saturday in November and a Championship Game, typically the Saturday before Thanksgiving

As a general rule, if the team is practicing/playing, we are cheering…rain or shine

ABSENCES

EXCUSED ABSENCES

Death in the immediate family

Personal illness with doctor's note

Religious holiday

Special Absence o This (ONE) absence is intended to allow families to attend important events such as family weddings,

baptisms, reunions, etc., with significantly reduced disciplinary action; this absence is NOT a “freebie” o Two-week + advance notice is required and cheerleaders must obtain prior approval from coach and

board members (Form on Website); approval is not guaranteed, and is at the discretion of the coach and board members

TARDIES AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

First time Tardy offense will result in a warning; excessive tardies are not permitted

Any absences that do not meet the requirements of an excused or special absence is therefore unexcused

Any unexcused missed practice from August-October will result in sitting out the first quarter of the following game, NO EXCEPTIONS

Any unexcused missed game will result in sitting out the first half of the following game, NO EXCEPTIONS

INJURIES

Cheerleaders who are unable to cheer due to injury must attend each practice, game, event, or competition in full dress/uniform, and sit with the coach/team

MANDATORY DATES Cheerleaders are expected to attend ALL mandatory dates

Some dates have not been officially set in stone, and are, therefore, subject to change; attendance is still expected, regardless of changes

Extra practices may be added at the discretion of the coach; as with any other practice, attendance is expected

While we have gone to extra effort to publish as many of the schedules with as much notice as possible, there will inevitably be changes. MJE Practices, Games and Competitions take priority over all other extracurricular activities and families need to make arrangements to ensure their cheerleader is at all mandatory events on time

DEMERIT SYSTEM Milton Junior Eagles Cheerleaders are required to act beyond the standard expectation of conduct, as they represent the Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Program as well as the entire Milton Eagles community. Being a cheerleader is both, an honor and a privilege; appropriate behavior and attitude are necessary at all times. The main goals of Milton Junior Eagle Cheer are to:

Create a culture based on respect

Build strong character while improving athletic skills, commitment & teamwork

Instill personal responsibility, honesty and accountability

Learn to accept praise and criticism

Set clear rules and behavioral expectations/parameters

Establish logical consequences for ignoring, disregarding, or defying rules

Eliminate/discourage negative behaviors

To achieve these goals, we use a demerit system. This demerit system is our primary disciplinary tool, and it serves as a general guideline for the expectations of every Milton Junior Eagles Cheerleader. Demerits are cumulative throughout the season, and can be given by coaches or any Board member. Coaches and Board members reserve the right to assign extra demerits as they deem necessary. Cheerleaders dismissed from the Milton Junior Eagles Cheer Program will not be entitled to any refunds.

STUDENT/PARENT CONCUSSION AWARENESS FORM SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION: _______________________________________________________________________

DANGERS OF CONCUSSION Concussions at all levels of sports have received a great deal of attention and a state law has been passed to address this issue. Adolescent athletes are particularly vulnerable to the effects of concussion. Once considered little more than a minor “ding” to the head, it is now understood that a concussion has the potential to result in death, or changes in brain function (either short-term or long-term). A concussion is a brain injury that results in a temporary disruption of normal brain function. A concussion occurs when the brain is violently rocked back and forth or twisted inside the skull as a result of a blow to the head or body. Continued participation in any sport following a concussion can lead to worsening concussion symptoms, as well as increased risk for further injury to the brain, and even death. Player and parental education in this area is crucial – that is the reason for this document. Refer to it regularly. This form must be signed by a parent or guardian of each student who wishes to participate in GMSAA athletics. One copy needs to be returned to the school, and one retained at home.

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CONCUSSION

Headache, dizziness, poor balance, moves clumsily, reduced energy level/tiredness

Nausea or vomiting

Blurred vision, sensitivity to light and sounds

Fogginess of memory, difficulty concentrating, slowed thought processes, confused about surroundings or game assignments

Unexplained changes in behavior and personality

Loss of consciousness (NOTE: This does not occur in all concussion episodes.) BY-LAW 2.68: GMSAA CONCUSSION POLICY: In accordance with Georgia law and national playing rules published by the National Federation of State High School Associations, any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion shall be immediately removed from the practice or contest and shall not return to play until an appropriate health care professional has determined that no concussion has occurred. (NOTE: An appropriate health care professional may include; licensed physician (MD/DO) or another licensed individual under the supervision of a licensed physician, such as a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or certified athletic trainer who has received training in concussion evaluation and management.

a. No athlete is allowed to return to a game or a practice on the same day that a concussion (a) has been diagnosed, OR (b) cannot be ruled out.

b. Any athlete diagnosed with a concussion shall be cleared medically by an appropriate healthcare professional prior to resuming participation in any future practice or contest. The formulation of a gradual return to play protocol shall be a part of the medical clearance.

c. It is mandatory that every coach in each GMSAA sport participate in a free, online course on concussion management prepared by the NFHS and available at www.nfhslearn.com at least every two years – beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.

d. Each school will be responsible for monitoring the participation of its coaches in the concussion management course, and shall keep a record of those who participate.

I HAVE READ THIS FORM AND I UNDERSTAND THE FACTS PRESENTED IN IT. SIGNED: ______________________________ _______________________________

GEORGIA ALL-STARS, INC. MEDICAL RELEASE FORM In consideration of the services of RDM LLC dba GEORGIA ALL-STAR CHEERLEADING., its owners, agents, officers, employees, and all other persons or entities acting in any capacity on their behalf (hereinafter collectively referred to as “GA”), I hereby agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless GA on behalf of myself, my children, my parents, my heirs, assigns, personal representative and estates as follows: 1. I understand and acknowledge that the activities that I or my child engage in while on the premises or

under the auspices of GA pose known and unknown risks which could result in injury, paralysis, death, emotional distress, or damage to me, my child, to property, or to third parties. The following describes some, but not all of those risks: Cheerleading and gymnastics, including performances of stunts and use of trampolines, entail certain risks that simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. Without a certain degree of risk, cheerleading students would not improve their skills and the enjoyment of the sport would be diminished. Cheerleading and gymnastics expose participants to the usual risk of cuts and bruises, and other more serious risks as well. Participants often fall, sprain or break wrists and ankles, and can suffer more serious injuries. Traveling to and from shows, meets and exhibitions, raises the possibilities of any manner of transportation accidents. In any event, if you or your child is injured, medical assistance may be required which you must pay for yourself.

2. I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks, known and unknown, connected with GA related activities, including but not limited to performance of stunts and the use of trampolines. My participation and that of my child is purely voluntary. No one has forced or coerced me or my child to participate. I elect for myself and my children to participate in such activities in spite of the risks.

3. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to hold harmless and indemnify GA from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions or rights of action, which are related to, arise out of, or are in any way connected with my child’s participation in GA-related activities.

4. Should GA be required to incur attorney’s fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and reimburse them for such fees and costs.

5. I certify that my child has health, accident and liability insurance to cover bodily injury or property damage that may be caused or suffered while participating in this event or activity, or else I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage to my child. I further certify that I am willing to assume and bear the costs of all risks that may arise or be created, directly or indirectly, through or by any such condition.

6. In the event that I file lawsuit against GA, I agree to do so solely in the State of Georgia and I further agree that the substantive and procedural laws in that state shall apply in any such action without regard to the conflict of laws rules thereof. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.

7. By signing this document, I acknowledge that if anyone is hurt or property is damaged during my participation or the participation of any of my children in this activity, I may be found by court of law to release GA by signing this Agreement.

I further acknowledge and agree that Minor is assuming the risk of such physical illness or serious injury (including death) by participating in the Activities. In the event of such physical illness or injury, I authorize SA to obtain necessary medical treatment for Minor and I release, hold harmless, and forever discharge SA from any Claims arising from or related to any physical illness or serious injury (including death) and to the exercise of this authority. THEREFORE, I HEREBY ASSIGN, TRANSFER, AND GRANT TO SA, WITHOUT RESERVATION OR LIMITATION, THE ROYALTY-FREE, EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO USE SUCH VIDEO RECORDINGS, AUDIO RECORDINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS, AND IMAGES OF MINOR, AS WELL AS MINOR’S NAME, LIKENESS, PERSONAL AND DEMOGRPAHIC INFORMATION, VOICE AND APPEARANCE AS PART OF ANY PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL. I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IN ANY CASE WHERE MINOR IS SUSPENDED OR PERMANENTLY EXPELLED FROM PARTICIPATION IN SOME OR ALL ACTIVITES, I WILL NOT BE ENTITLED TO ANY REFUND OF ANY AMOUNTS PAID FOR PARTICIPATION IN ANY CURRENT OR FUTURE ACTIVITES.
