For 14 years the Carpet Design Awards – presented in partnership with HALI and COVER magazines – has been the central attraction in the handmade rug halls at DOMOTEX and a trusted benchmark for the modern carpet industry. For 2020, we are excited to announce that the 15th edition of the CDA and the handmade rug companies will share a new home in Hall 3, where the focus will be on leading design and innovation. Alongside this, a new category will be introduced to the CDA, inviting non-exhibiting companies to be part of the celebrated awards.

This year DOMOTEX’s new keynote theme will be ATMYSPHERE reflecting the global megatrend of health and well-being. The focus of the Framing Trends display area in Hall 8 and that of many other focused sites around the fair will be on all those qualities of floors and floor coverings that contribute to wellbeing, naturalness and sustainability. Health is a synonym for a good life, and good living is the drive behind each and every dis-play at DOMOTEX, including the Carpet Design Awards.

The world’s leading rug design competition not only offers fair participants a great opportunity to maximise their participation in DOMOTEX 2020, but the addition of two non-exhibitor categories also widens the compe-tition’s international scope, bringing even greater global recognition to the awards.

The CDA jury consists of leading experts from the design and carpet industry, who together create a shortlist of five entries in each of the six categories open for exhibi-tors. The Non-exhibitor categories will be shortlisted with three entries. Three entries per category are then chosen as finalists at the beginning of the fair and given pride of place in the new dedicated presentation area in Hall 3. A winner from each category will be announced on Sunday 11 January at the well-attended awards ceremony.

Judging The judging of the Carpet Design Awards has three stages. The first stage takes place in early November and involves the creation of a shortlist of five entries per category. The Non-exhibitor categories will be shortlisted with three entries. The shortlisted carpets then arrive at DOMOTEX in January, where the judges will select three finalists in each category. These carpets are given pride of place in the new dedicated presentation area of Hall 3 throughout the fair. The Carpet Design Awards winners are chosen on 9 January and announced to the public on 11 January during a special awards ceremony.

The first round of Carpet Design Awards judging will feature three extra judges – Michael Pourvakil (Weavers Art), James Ffrench (Beauvais Carpets) and Matthew Bourne (Christopher Farr) – who will bring their rug industry expertise to the process of shortlisting the best rugs. Graham Head (ABC Carpet & Home) will be the new Chairperson of the jury.
