3 new Academy courses for 2021

Students can choose only ONE Academy course per week.Minimum A2 pre-intermediate level of English required for all courses except Robotics / Coding / Reading & Writing Skills, which require B1 intermediate level.

Courses subject to minimum numbers.

As well as a multi-activity afternoon programme, all our schools offer specialist Academy courses that give you the chanceto learn new skills from qualified instructors. Each course consists of 3 afternoons per week of 3 hours per afternoon.

Organised by “Big Hat Bushcamp’, the academy is run bya former captain of the British Army who has trained andled his men across mountains, jungles, bushland, desertand forest. He has also worked as a primary school teacherin the Peruvian Andes and has written children’s booksbefore becoming a bushcraft instructor here in the UK.

Main objectives• To develop the knowledge and confidence to safelyenjoy the outdoors.

• To learn a variety of survival skills - from shelterbuilding to wilderness first aid.

• To have fun in the great outdoors with stealth games,archery, navigation and campfire cooking.

• To promote personal development, teamwork andleadership.

The final session of each week will be extended to includean end-of course ‘cook out’ where students prepare andenjoy a bushcamp dinner using their newly found skills.Students will receive an end-of-course certificate and report.(This course is also open to local school children.)

This Academy complements the morning Trinity GESE course(which focuses on Speaking and Listening) allowing studentsto improve all four English language skills. Students have theopportunity to improve their comprehension of writtenEnglish as well as their own writing skills. It will help themread with increased efficiency and speed as well asdeveloping their ability to cope with problems encounteredduring reading. They will also learn about organisation andstructure of writing the ‘English’ way for a variety of purposes.

Main objectives• To learn how to deal with and produce different kindsof English text - formal, informal and academic.

• To learn how to write concise and grammaticallycorrect sentences.

• To improve reading speed and skills.• To broaden the student’s range of vocabulary.• To increase self-confidence in written communication skills.

Any writing done as part of the course will be completedduring tuition time. Students will receive an end ofcourse certificate and report.

Based at the St. George’s Cookery School, students on thisAcademy course will learn a variety of cooking skills –from following a recipe and time management to foodpreparation and presentation skills. They will prepare avariety of sweet and savoury dishes both internationaland British. Students on this course will also learn thehistory, etiquette, preparation and presentation of anEnglish ‘Afternoon Tea’ with cakes, scones, sandwichesand perfectly brewed tea!

• To inspire a passion for cooking and baking.• To develop an English vocabulary.• To showcase the resulting culinary delights!

• Our equestrian course is run by BritishHorse Society instructors using well-mannered horses.

• Course covers safety and basic horsepsychology.

• Students learn basic skills likemounting and dismounting through torising trot, canter and jumping –according to ability.

• Language skills developed along withriding proficiency.

• Students will be assessed for BritishHorse Society Progressive Riding TestCertificate.

• Students should bring comfortabletrousers (not jeans). Gloves and bodyprotectors are recommended.

• Course run by qualified PGA instructorsand designed to improve every aspectof your game.

• Programme may include:• General swing check - grip, posture,swing changes and practice drills.

• Short game - chipping, pitching andbunker play; putting stroke, distancecontrol and learning to read the green.

• Long game - applied techniques oflong irons and fairway woods;improving driving distance and accuracy.

• Rules and etiquette.• On-course coaching to apply what hasbeen learnt.
