Greetings Jaguar Club Members,

It’s my pleasure to address you as your club presi-dent for the first time. Let’s start by waving goodbye to last year and the pandemic. Our monthly meetings will return on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Our next meeting is July 17, 11:00 AM at the Orlando Auto Museum in Dezerland Park, 5250 In-ternational Drive, Orlando. Please let me know of any topics or events you would like to discuss.

Only 13 months after originally scheduled, our 33rd Annual Concours d’Elegance went on without a hitch, thanks to co-chairmen Juan Sierra and Will Hoehndorf. They could not have done it without all the help from Delila Davis! Thanks also to Pavel Va-cata for designing and procuring the elegant awards.

Our pre-concours Judges’ meeting had a record-breaking 25 certified and apprentice judges anxious-ly wanting to work. Chief Judge, Tom Wright, remined all of the strict JCNA rules. In the absence of Danny Bogdany, Erik Klerholm agreed to act as “Scrutineer.”

Saturday evening’s Gourmet Banquet was far above expectations at the Marriott, where “service” had true meaning. Delilah’s decorations were spectacu-lar, and presentation of awards went quickly with her assistance.

Several of our members never knew we have steep, rolling hills in “flatland” Florida until they followed our Rally Master Extraordinaire, Jay Hixson, on a Fun Run Road Rally. We wound up with a fascinating tour of Paquettet’s Farmall Tractor Museum near Leesburg, FL. (How does Jay find these interesting places)? Even better, he arranged lunch to be ca-tered by what must be Florida’s best Bar-B-Q!

Our phantastic photographer, Robert Delmar, made hundreds of Fun Photos which webmaster, Judy Delmar, posted at www.JaguarClubFL.com. You can download any or all photos for free, or order prints, coffee mugs, greeting cards, etc. at Robert’s whole-sale cost.

With your help, my plans for the upcoming months include interesting guest speakers, events, tech ses-sions, road ralleys, a slalom, +++. Our lives are getting back to “normal” again! We’ll rotate meetings to places so members might drive a little less and enjoy a little more. With your help. We will attract new friends and new members who want to belong to “The Funnest Car Club in Florida!”

The Jaguar Club of Florida (JCOF) was founded in 1977 by a small group of enthusiasts who had a common love of ownership, operation and maintenance of the world’s most beautiful automobiles – Jaguars. From that modest start with a handful of participants, JCOF has grown to almost 200 active members, affiliate spouses and friends. JCOF is proudly affiliated with Jag-uar Clubs of North America, Inc. (JCNA), an organiza-tion comprised of more than sixty clubs throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Membership in JCOF automatically includes: mem-bership in JCNA; subscriptions to both the award-winning JAGWire newsletter and the JCNA Jaguar Jour-nal which are delivered bi-monthly; discounts on insur-ance at Hagerty Insurance; deep discounts on JCNA Shoppe purchases and Jaguar Heritage Certificates; discounts from other commercial suppliers, and access to the JCNA Tool Loan Program.

JCOF members participate in a myriad of events in-cluding driving venues such as tours, rallies and sla-loms; monthly brunch or dinner meetings; Holiday and Summer Splash parties; our annual Jaguar Only Con-cours d’Elegance, and other ‘pop-up’ events such as car shows; Cars & Coffee get-togethers, and breakfasts with other car clubs. We encourage family participa-tion and many members bring children, grandchildren and friends to our events.

In addition to JAGWire newsletter, we communicate with members about local news and event information through electronic mail updates, websites and webpages. Check out prior editions of our award-winning newsletters at www.JaguarClubFL.com . After joining JCOF, you will receive your membership card from JCNA, and after you’ve attended your first JCOF event, you will receive a JCOF name tag.

If you have any questions regarding membership, please contact the JCOF Membership Chairperson:

OH! WHAT FUN WE HAD!

Finally, after 13 long, boring months of Covid seclusion, JCOF’s 33rd Annu-al Concours d’Elegance was held!

The Marriott at Lake Mary exerted every effort to make facilities as ‘Covid-Safe’ as possible. Most all of our at-tendees were wise [we don’t use the word ‘old’] enough to have had vac-cines, but masks and distancing were the order of the day. Even so, many of us couldn’t help from hugging friends we’ve not seen in so many months.

I’m not sure, but this may have been the best attended JCOF Concours weekend ever. A record number of JCNA Certified and Apprentice Judges

JCNA JUDGE TRAINING Lady Justice might be blind, but CatDrivers who earn cer-

tification to be JCNA Concours Judges certainly are not.

Each judge must attend special training classes designed

and required by JCNA to assure that standardized rules are

followed at every JCNA sanctioned concours throughout

North America.

JCOF’s Chief Judge, Tom Wright provided ‘refresher’ training for 25

JCNA members seeking re-certification and apprenticeship status on the

day of JCOF’s 33rd concours. They then divided into teams to judge 46

exquisite Jaguar automobiles competing in 20 different classifications.

Those meticulously prepared Jaguars were proudly displayed by en-

trants from 11 different JCNA affiliate clubs. Check their scores on the

following pages.

After a long postponement of JCOF’s 2020 Concours, things finally began to take shape for 2021. At the final meeting of our committee, we had a count of 46 participants, meaning headcount, not registered cars. That brought a sigh of relief as we were required by the Marriott to have at least 40 attendees for the Banquet. Though we had a deadline for registering, that did not stop the numbers from continuing to grow. There was a new count every day. We ended up with about 46 registered cars, plus or minus 3 or 4 that showed up at he last minute.

I had created the banquettable arrangements the year be-fore, so those had to be opened back up and re-constructed. As registrations increased, three additional centerpieces were created and we had a final count of 70 people attend-ing the banquet. The banquet was a lovely occasion. The food was exquisite, the service was excellent and the awards were especially spectacular. Awards were designed by Deli-lah Davis and Erik Klerholm and produced by Pavel Vacata.

I had two very special trophies designed and presented in memory of Tom Curren. The Peoples’ Choice award went to Chris Lipinsky and the Judges’ Choice award to Eduardo Zavala (see cover photos). I also donated a smaller version of the Leaper to Jay Hixson for his enormous contribution of time arranging our Rallyes and Road Trips.

To my great delight, I was awarded the Walter C. Hill “Tarnished Trophy” award —a wonderful honor.

‘King’ Dan Middleton arrived in full regalia to present the President's Meritorious Award to Danny and Dianna Bogdany. Unfortunately, they were not in attendance.

Tom Orlando was inducted as our new President and Pavel Vacata was inducted as our new V.P. Tom Wright, our Chief Judge, announced his retirement and appointed Erik Klerholm as his successor.

Left to Right: Tom Orlando, incoming president; Juan Sierra, Concours Chairman; Will Hoehndorf, Concours Co-Chairman; Erik Klerholm, outgoing president and new Chief Judge; Tom Wright, now Chief Judge Emeritus.

I hope you enjoy Robert Delmar’s phantastic photos in this issue of JAGWire. Be sure to see even more from this wonderful weekend and other events by clicking the Fun Photos tab at our website, www.JaguarClubFL.com.

Who woulda ‘thunk’ that a visit to a museum of antique tractors would turn out to be a really great fun-filled

event? BUT when JCOF’s Rally Master Extraordinaire, Jay Hixson, takes us on a Road Trip, it’s always an ad-

venture with lots of surprises!

Those who attended the JCOF Concours but who didn’t sign up for Sunday’s Road Trip really missed the fun.

[Don’t let that happen next year!]

Though somewhat weary from Saturday’s concours and still satiated from the evening’s elegant awards ban-

quet and extravagant cuisine, a number of JCOF stalwarts bravely lined up to follow Jay and Karen Hixson’s

blue F-Type convertible to parts unknown. Some followers never knew that central Florida had some pretty

steep hills. Equally exciting were the narrow, twisty roads that gave us a chance to enjoy the handling qualities

of our Jaguar automobiles. Stick shifts and paddle shifters got thorough workouts.

When we arrived at our destination near Leesburg, FL, the metal cutout of a buffalo on the fence gate was a

tip that we were about to see some unusual things. The owner of the ranch and museum, Stewart Paquette, is

quite a collector. Not only has he accumulated what is probably the largest collections of International Har-

vester ‘Farmall’ tractors, he also has Buffalo, cattle and horses roaming his beautiful property.

Stew Paquette is not only a collector of unusual items, he also proved

to be a most gracious host. He proudly led our somewhat disorganized

group on a tour of his collections. He graciously described many of his

Farmall tractors that he had personally and painstakingly restored and

which required constructing several buildings to contain them all.

While tractors were the main display, many of us “mature” folks were

delighted to see an International Harvester refrigerator — “Just like

the one mama got when we finally got rid of the old ice box,” said one

of our folks.

As one might expect, no event with “The Funnest Car Club in Florida” would be complete without FOOD! Our

visit to Paquette’s Place was no exception. BUT, what a surprise when we tasted what may have been Florida’s

best Bar-B-Q! Good Food! Good Friends! Good Times! Who could ask for anything more?

Jaguar Club of Florida (JCOF)

April13, 2021 Board of Directors Meeting Notes

Juan & Genie Sierras’ Home, Longwood, FL

Meeting Facilitator: Erik Klerholm, President JCOf

Board Members present in person: Juan Sierra, Genie Sierra, Erik Klerholm and Tom Orlando. Danny Bog-

dany joined the meeting using a Zoom internet account. All Board members were present.

The Board reviewed the purpose and function of JCOF as the 2020 Concours D’Elegance was cancelled

and there have been no monthly meetings since the Covid-19 emergency started last March 2020.

Tom wanted to discuss how the elections of the Board and Steering Council take place.

Basic information can be found in the By-Laws of the club. The usual date for election by the mem-

bership is at the Holiday party. Due to the extraordinary Covid 19 situation no Holiday party could be

held in January 2020. Therefore, the Board of Directors stayed in place and the 2021 Officers and Steer-

ing Council election will take place at the April 24th Concours dinner. Nominations from the floor will be

entertained. Tom said that he wanted to investigate future meeting locations. He also had ideas about

discussing jaguar repair shops at the next general meeting. Danny suggested that Tom announce at

the Concours dinner when the next general meeting date and tour will take place.

Treasurer’s report: Danny Bogdany explained the Treasurer’s work. The JCOF’s funds are in three ac-

counts and the plan is to close one of the accounts and consolidate the funds. A report of the club’s

available funds was made and details are filed with the Secretary. The payments to JCNA for member-

ship dues are up to date. After the new Board of Directors are elected at the Concours d’Elegance

dinner in April, the newly authorized board members will update necessary documentation. 2020 Con-

cours budget approved last year by membership will be used for the current Concours.

The JCOF P.O. Box in Maitland will be closed due to the lack of usage. All advertisers with JCOF are

100% paid up, due to the efforts of Bob Lewis. Erik discussed an email regarding a JCNA fee increase

per sanction activity.

A discussion took place among the Board regarding JCOF charitable donations this year. It was

agreed to ask the membership at the Concours dinner for a motion to approve donations to three or

four worthy charitable organizations. The Coventry Foundation was brought up as JCOF is a founding

Patron. Other past recipients were the Kidney Foundation in memory of Joe Tarnowski and Advent

Health Organ Donation program in memory of John Falco. Other worthy charitable organizations can

be considered.

The JCOF Concours event was discussed as it will take place shortly April 23-25, 2021 at the Marriott

Hotel in Lake Mary. The work is proceeding well.

Juan mentioned that he has a dealership contact that will supply 2 vehicles to be display at the

Concours. The dealership is also giving the club 5 certificates valued at $200.00 each for a complete

car detailing, a total donation value of $1,000.00. These certificates will be raffled at the dinner.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Genie Sierra, Secretary

him at his house after the event. Will Hoehndorf will include details in the email “Blast” he sends

laxed event. The date and more details will be available soon.

Tom is requesting members to send him any pictures they might have related to JCOF events, espe-

cially the Concours in April. He will forward them to Robert Delmar to update the club’s website.

Tom opened a discussion on the $300.00 limit on club expenditures by authorized members that

would not require a membership vote. A discussion ensued by the members. By a show of hands

the new cap was approved at $500.00.

Wil Hoehndorf, 2022 JOCF Concours d’Elegance chairman, gave an updated status of the coming con-

cours. The next year’s concours will be held at the same location as year’s location, the Marriott Hotel in

Lake Mary. He was able to reserve a block of rooms at the hotel for participants at the Concours. Details

to follow as information is firmed up.

New business:

Tom Wright made comments on judging needs for the International Jaguar Festival being held in Ft

Myers October 20-23, 2021. The JCNA rules change is expected after the national AGM in Au-

gust that will require all judges to be requalified on a yearly basis. A judges training, to qualify

more judges for the IJF, will be offered by Craig Kerins, Southeast Regional Director and judge,

on July 10th in Venice, Florida. Volunteer judges are needed from our club.

Tom noted that any member taking the training in July will be prequalified for the IJF in October

and JCOF’s concours in 2022. The first-time trained judges would be able to work as an appren-

tice judge at the IJF and then qualify to be a full judge at the JCOF concours next spring. Infor-

mation to follow as details are firmed up.

A lively 50/50 raffle was held with the proceeds going to the club’s treasury.

The Coventry Foundation

“Preserving Jaguar History”

The Jaguar Club of Florida was a founder of the “Coventry Foundation Club

Patron” concept and remained steadfast supporters of this worthy organization.

There are now fifteen JCNA affiliated clubs as well as one independent club that

have signed up to meaningfully support the Foundation on a continuing annual

basis.

Since the inception of this program the Coventry Foundation has grown exponen-

tially. We now have 9 Classic Jaguar automobiles, enormous amounts of literature

and reference material, the largest Jaguar tool collection in the world, and a

wealth of art work and memorabilia. The scholarship program continues to sup-

port a needy student in the art of automotive restoration.

The Foundation is very active in loaning tools to members and serving as the “go

to” source for technical and historical information. The storage space for all this

material has tripled. All of this growth, as well as the expanding mission of the

Coventry Foundation has come with growing expenses.

We would like to count on our loyal Club Patrons to supply the Foundation with a

reliable source of income to support a portion of the fixed costs. A year-

ly donation of $250 (or more) will greatly add to the stability of the organization

and enable our continued growth in the future.

Most clubs allocate some funds to annual donations. The Coventry Foundation

(thanks in large part to Tom Wright) is a 501 3 (c) charitable organization with

extremely low overhead that directly supports your hobby.

Midway through this awful year is a terrific time to do something good for our

Jaguar community by renewing the commitment and making the $250 donation.

Thanks again, your support has been invaluable to us.

Sincerely,
